I thought the book was fantastic as well as everything else i've read from Rolenta. I wouldn't give a good review any other way.

Spoken like a person who has yet to read one of the fine books published by Rolenta.

Simply put: if you've *ever* played a videogame and enjoyed it, you owe it to yourself to buy and read every book they've published. Period. You won't just learn a thing or three, you'll also be thoroughly entertained. And Bill Kunkel not only has excellent stories to tell, he's an excellent story teller.

Now go get it. :)

um... yeah... thats nice. but you see, the word review implies an actual (gasp!) REVIEW of what is in the specific product. while i dont doubt the book is good (mine is in the mail), that simply isnt a review. a review would go in debt about each chapter and the underlying idea of them. any 100% glowing review without any criticism is useless. just my 2 cents.

Every book review you've read gives in depth analysis on each chapter? That's new to me.

I simply enjoyed every aspect of Confession's. THat's fact so why would i be critical of something I totally enjoyed?

I'm a fan of reviews that do not hold readers hands. It's fine to point out fault or praise but to dissect every little piece of a book, film, game, whatever defeats the purpose.

Reviews should indicate quality or a lack thereof. They shouldn't spoil the readers experience by revealing too much. IGN has a habit of doing that.

Did you even read it? Even by your own criteria, it's still a review. He specifically mentions p. 51, the start of his favorite chapter, touches on subjects you'll read about in the book and lets you know where you can get it.

that simply isnt a review. a review would go in debt about each chapter and the underlying idea of them.
Wrong. Both about what you wrote and what you meant, Which, in this case, is (guessing here) probably depth instead of debt.

any 100% glowing review without any criticism is useless. just my 2 cents.
Really? So what if something is *gasp* actually worthy of a 100% glowing review? You're saying that a reviewer's job is to nitpick and find faults with something (book, game, movie, whatever) that doesn't have any. Gotta call bullshit on that.

An advertisement is something that I would pay for to promote the book. Since I'm not even sure who RCM is, and since he gets nothing in return for the complimentary review that he wrote, this is by no means an advertisement.

THanks for pointing that out Leonard. We've met but you always forget me!

With risk of sounding like a broken record, I totally enjoyed the book. I refuse to bash anything just because i'm doing a review if I 100% enjoyed it.

Some obviously get that while others never will.

Rob, regarding your snide aside about me and "Videogame Collector" [sic], a couple of corrections:

1) The name of the magazine is Video Game Collector. Three words. (Also, it's Confessions of the Game Doctor, not "Confession's." And it's Chris Bieniek, not "Beniek." )

2) I haven't been affiliated with VGC since just after the New Year, when I took a PR/marketing position with Atlus U.S.A., Inc.

Congrats on the new position, you know what I think about the magazine. I was making reference to the entire mag, not just your work. Pardon me for having an opinion.

I was informed by other readers of the mistakes, they'll be corrected. Thanks for the heads up though.

It's funny Zach, instead of being pleased that Kunkel mentioned you as a great game journalist you focus on the negative. Bill brought you up, not I. I agree a lot with him, just not on that.

So i'll save you the response. You've been around for so long and it's obvious you're the king. What else? You'll mention that I suck and how you were playing games when I was shitting my diapers. Oh yeah, you were on the internet before all of us. I'm sure i'm missing so much. Pardon me for not being up on my ZM history.

I'm so sorry Zach. Please forgive me.

Why are you asking to be pardoned for having an opinion? My post merely addresses the errors in your snide aside (which was brought to my attention by a friend; I don't visit your website at all, and rarely visit this one anymore).

I'm thrilled that Bill Kunkel considers me to be a great game journalist. Why you disagree with him, I cannot say, and do not care.

And, yes, Bill mentioned me first, which I'm not disputing and never did, because that wasn't the point of my post. The point was to correct your errors.

I appreciate your concern Zach, but it's wasn't needed. Others mentioned some mistakes in this thread before you and through email. I can only assume you were looking for a fight. There's no need for that, there's no need to have anything to do with each other.

Both of your mistakes require me to address and correct them.

Zach, your object is to confront me with everything. so go fuck yourself. There were other ways to handle your gripe. Instead you wanted to fight. Don't try to act innocent. No one buys your bullshit

I have no desire to "confront" you about anything, unless it affects my professional life, which your snide aside has done.

I would much prefer not to interact with you at all, given your obvious emotional issues, but I have to correct your erroneous statement.

There were no other meaningful ways to address your error. I do not send PMs to anyone on this forum, since my messages have been posted out of context in the past, and I have no desire to engage in private correspondence with you. Posting in this thread, which was brought to my attention by a friend, was the only choice.

I have no desire to "fight" with you. Not a word in any of my posts can be perceived as hostile, and in fact, none were intended to be hostile. You perceive them as such because of your emotional issues.

Seriously, Rob, you need to seek out some help. If a simple thread on a video game forum can lead you to want to "stab someone in the face in front of their relatives," you're in clear danger of ending up in a prison or a sanitarium.

It was absolutely a threat, Rob, as my lawyer has already verified this evening. Your "disclaimer," as anyone with a legal background can explain to you, was meaningless, given the clear intent of your post. "Joking" about bombs at the airport can still get you arrested, as can "joking" about stabbing someone.

I wrote a handful of SNES books for Prima Publishing, and a couple more for Sandwich Islands Publishing. None of them great (or even very good) in retrospect, but c'est la vie.

THIS LINK (http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=br_ss_hs/002-3778974-1844028?search-alias=aps&keywords=zach%20meston) will bring up, via Amazon.com, many of the guides I worked on over the years.

I seem to sense a certain... tension in this thread.

Almost a kind of "hostility", if you will.

Heh. My clear intent was explained moron. No one will be stabbed! You can get out from under your pillow fort now.

If you have a problem being in any sort of contact with me leave the thread! I want nothing to do with you.

It's too late for that, Rob. You issued the threat, and now you're going to face the consequences. I will do everything I can to make sure that you're kept out of (or removed from) E3.

Go ahead. It won't affect my plans for E3 in the slightest.

It's sad this had to happen. It may be amusing to everyone, but it ruined an ok thread.

Fact is, you sound like a real asshole. I'd probably over-react to with that smug, know-it-all, attitude of yours too, (maybe not to the point of graphic violence, but then only maybe, as I said, a real asshole).

Buddy isn't going to knife you.

You wish you were that important.

Why is this thread so great? You may not be able to see it, because you are so deeply immersed, but this thread is asbsufucking retarded.

There's the hilarity of an internet argument, the temper tantrum that you're throwing over RCM's idle threat (which was uncalled for).

Oooh...there's the fact that you chose to single my comment out from all the other ones pointing out the absolute stupidity of this.

Hmm...the fact that people got so pissy over RCM's review. (I think it does sound a little bit fluffy, but it's your review, so who cares).

This thread is absolutely enthralling, and therefore great. The fact you don't realize it is just bonus points.

LOL I dont understand the hostillity some people have. No one was really out to insult anyone from the start then someone mistook helpfull criticizm for flaming and now here we are. People take shit too seriously, take a couple of deep breaths walk it off and dont reply or look at this tred again lets it be buried under more usefull treads.

sooo.... Zach's feelings got hurt so instead of PM'ing some errors to RCM, he publicly insults his grammar, spelling, and remarks.... causing RCM to get offended and respond with emotional posts, that are only responded to with even more heated typings? Do I have this right?
