I had a pretty good time, Drexel923 and I rolled up there at 10 on the dot, we left pretty early too, which leeds me to my first main concern.
-That place was VERY hard to find. The road system in Reading is very confusing. Luckilly we had our trust map, and mapquest directions and that would help us right? Wrong. We were given directions to streets that didn't even EXIST! Mapquest needs to seriously look again at the Reading road system.
-But we got there, paid our $15 at the door, and immediately I found the Gigawing 2 prize I was looking for at the first table we went to! Tons of vendors, met up with NoahsmyBro later in the day, and met Downfall who had a table there with some most excellent bead sprite art.

-Cabs, there obviously was not enough of them, but the 15 machines they did have were pretty good.

-There were however tons of console and PC game stations set up for play, and this kinda made up for it. No shortage of things to play per ratio of people that were there.

-As far as the administration goes, there were 1 or 2 administrative decisions that I did not agree with, but overall it was put together nicely. However the vendors were the real highlight of the show:
http://www.christopherchandler.net/pics/ecgx2k6/IMG_0841_11_1.jpg
I don't know what was up, but I found some of the best deals of the year at this show. Sealed GB games for $7, James Buster Douglas Boxing for SMS complete for $13, etc. Just see below. I spent $175 on everything, tell me I didn't get a steal. ;)

yea it was great meating Drexel and GrandAmChandler. Talking to them on Live is so different. Meeting Rob on the other hand, well, that was different.
Drexel, you spent a ton from Carson, the mad-gear import guy. So did I. I will post what all I got later, because, well, I might end up getting more today X_x
I don't think we will be staying until 5 today, but we will be here until we get a couple more interviews. I want to interview Chuck, and seeing how Rob is today, I might get a few choice quotes from him today.
We will be back in Ohio late tonight/early tomorrow, so I will post my loot then.

Actually I didn't get anything from Carson this year. All of those imports came from one table (I didn't get the guys name) and I hope he comes every year ;)
I'd like to thank everyone for coming out this weekend. It was tough for all of us. We fell far below our expectations. We put in so much work and effort.
It was great meeting Ken for the first time. We've worked together and I hope we continue to.
If anyone was there for the concert saturday night there are certainly some stories to be told! I apologize to anyone I may have offended. Sometimes I get out of hand.
Oh yeah, I'd like to send a shout out to Chuck. We've been through a lot with this show. We'll see what we can do when we regroup.

Well apparently the paper only keeps links for 24 hours then puts them in the pay-to-play archive. So I just scanned it :)

The only thing the scanner cut off was the dateline and headline...nothing extraordinary. Sorry for the 404.

WOW!
I know that the turnout for this years ECGXpo was a BIG Disapointment. I even heard rumors that this would be the LAST ECGXpo. I guess the rumors are true in that earlier the ECGXpo website was removed and replaced with a single page thank you from the host and stating it was a fun 3 years. Now, I just went to check www.ecgxpo.com and it says the domain is parked. They really moved fast and removed/killed the history of the ECGXpo.
Really sad to see it go like this. :(

Heya, everyone.
I do want to thank the small loyal crowd that came out to ECGXpo this year. The rumors are pretty much true. I am no longer continuing with East Coast Gaming Expo. If Rob wishes to take the name and run with it, he's more than welcome to. As John mentioned, the domain is available.
I'm going to take a year break, people who don't run events like this don't understand how mentally, physically, and emotionally draining they can be. I just need some time to devote to myself and some of my other projects.
No worries tho', I'm going to make a return to the convention circuit in the spring of 2008. I'll be sure to make an announcement when I'm ready to begin the planning of my next event!
Again, thanks to everyone who supported the event our first three years!

Last night we got back from our trip to Reading, PA. Let me just say that that town has some messed up streets. The hotel, and subsequently the expo, was a bitch to find.
But I had fun, and got a bunch of stuff I have been looking to get. I didn't pick up anything retro, as I spent all my money on imports and funding my friend's loot too. Note to self: don't forget about loan.

oh and the MINT Megaman x3 i got from a kid at the show. i traded him 3 cart only dragon warriors and mega man 1 for the NES for it. I thought it was a pretty fair trade.
and the stack of games to the right corner were three german games i think. Noahs Ark, Smurfs, and Dropzone. got those for the same price as well. :)

Does anyone else have any pictures from this past ECGXpo? Also, since the website is down, is there a central site where we can go and either place our pics from the show or view others pictures, reviews, etc... from this years ECGXpo event?
I'm still recovering from the show myself. Had a great time. Beer is good food, thanks for the fine donations. Sorting pics and video out now. Hope to have them on my NEW website in the next few days. Mike : )

hey guys, after hearing the bad news, i started talking to a few people i know, and we came up with an idea....we want to have our own expo.....not in reading though, more near central PA......now, right now, we're only thinking about it, but i would love to know if anybody here would have interest, either as a dealer or as an atendee. i hate to jack a thread like this, but i figured everone here on this thread would give some of the best initial feedback.
look for a new thread in this forum by the end of the holiday weekend as soon as i know more about what some of my friends think.
again, sorry to thread jack, and i really dont want to replace the ECGX, but this thread seems like it would be the best place to get some initial feedback

I can't really say too much, but with this topic still getting posts, let me say a few things. First, I think yet another show would be great, although at this years event towards the end, a bunch of vendors and such were talking and everyone agreed that northern Jersey would probably be the best location as it is almost the mid-point to NY, PA, OH (I believe), etc... If a show was to be held in northern Jersey, I know you wouldn't have to worry about only receiving 300 out of an estimated 3000 visitors (This years ECGXpo estimates). The guys who ran ECGXpo 2006 did a lot of work getting the word out on this years show. They had TV commercials on cable channels like the Cartoon Network, MTV, etc..., and I think radio spots as well. I think the overall location was the killer. I was at the show and everyone who I spoke to thought the show was GREAT! The only let down was the overall attendance. Moving such an expo to Northern Jersey would be a good way to eliminate that potential issue. As I mentioned Northern NJ would be like a central point for the outlying areas. I know a lot of fellow NY'ers would attend such an event as it would be much closer. Those who I told about this years ECGXpo all wanted to go, but said it was just too far to warrant a visit for them.
Finally, I don't really have authority to say anything, and even more I don't have much info, but I will say this. One of the former members that brought you the ECGXpo is already looking to the future and has a new expo or classic gaming show that they are in the infant stages of developing. 2007 might be a dead year, but 2008 could see a Spring return of a classic gaming expo in the general vacinity of the ECGXpo shows. Again, I can't really say more than this, but I just thought it might be news worthy to let others who loved the ECGXpo, know that while ECGXpo is DEAD, another show could be rising from the ashes, so don't give up hope. I surely won't!
In closing, I'll definitely miss Chuck, Rob and Matt. They were all great hosts and very friendly. My friend & I went to each ECGXpo partially because these guys were friendly, and you could see they were into it for the love of the games and not to become huge and make a commercial success out of it. To me, it will be sad to know that whatever new shows might happen, the team of Chuck, Rob & Matt probably won't return. :( Anyhow, if any of those three read this post, I'd like to say thanks for three GREAT years! I'm sorry the last show didn't go well for you guys, but the fun we had, the pictures and video we took of each years show will be with us forever and will help to be a reminder of how much fun it all was. From a vistor and exhibitor's point of view this was a great show and the trilogy of ECGXpo I, II, & III was lots of fun, and excitement. Thanks Again to Chuck, Rob & Matt.
Sincerely,
John

Sorry to hear about the show Chuck(and crew). The wifey and I actually made it down to Reading, but we never made it to the show. We had a great time at the Vanity Fair Outlets and going out to dinner and just basically cruising around.
Wish I would have known this was the last ECGX because I feel bad I missed it now. The first two were great and I'm sure this one was no slouch.
Thanks for all the hard work over the years(even spanning back to the PhillyClassic for some of you).
The pics and videos are great Mike! Keep em coming people!
@ Adventurevision: While most folks who attended had a great time, we simply didn't sell enough tickets. Not due to lack of effort. We really felt we'd meet our goals.

Man, I have some more footage of Rob going nuts during the concert. It even includes Chuck going over to him and trying to calm him down. Of course I was egg'ing him on to mosh, and even attempt to stage dive, although that bit was a joke. Seeing how plastered Rob was, I'm surprised he didn't attempt it. LOL
I sure had a lot of fun at this years event. Rob supplied some of the most hilarious moments. :)

Hey All!
Just recieved an email from Chuck about this past ECGXpo event. In the email he confirms that he has plans for a show called the GamePlay Xpo and is aiming for a return to the location of the original 2 ECGXpos. The planned dates are sometime in Mar or Apr 2008.
Chuck also explained a bit about this years event and how it dissapointed him and his co-hosts. He even appologized for a few things.
The email should have gone out to all vendors and I guess others that were on his ECGxpo mailing list, so others here may have also received the email.
Anyhow, just wanted to say that Chuck has confirmed that he is already working on a new show. I can't wait to see more info from Chuck.

Greetings, I too am sad to see ECGX come to a close and wished the attendance was better this year. Chuck, you've been great to us, and you have a free table at MAGFest when it comes time to promote your next endeavour.
To everyone else we met at ECGX both this and last year, I would like to give a shout-out and invite you all down to our show that we were plugging. Please feel free to poke me on AIM and get in touch! We'd love to talk to anyone we made friends with at ECGX.
