View Full Version : Noisy picture on Sega CD / 32x

I've got a Genesis Model 2 hooked up to a Sega CD Model 2 and a 32x. When I want to play a Genesis/32x/SegaCD game, the picture is just fine during the license screen, but once it gets into the actual game (or the Sega CD bios), the video gets irritatingly noisey.

The problem goes away if I unhook the 32x. The 32x doesn't have the metal plates (I've never even seen any anywhere), so I figure it's this. Where do the metal plates go on the 32x, and what do they contact? If I don't have them, does it cause symptoms like the ones I'm experiencing, or is my 32x just crappy?

Thanks.

If you are using an RF switch, ditch it and get a composite video cable. The same cable will do Genesis 2 and 32X stereo and composite video output.

You likely have RF interference. Stop using RF and see what happens,

If you are using an RF switch, ditch it and get a composite video cable.

I've got an old TV with only RF input, so I'm largely out of options. The way it's wired now, it's running composite from the 32X into the VCR and being modulated there. I figure the VCR probably has a better modulator than a Genesis RF box.

So, it's pretty standard to get lots of noise when using RF with the Genesis/32x?

Actally Yes it is. I was playing a 32x game with A/V and i had changed the channel to 4 and there was alot of noise. So I turned my Genesis off and the noise went away.Wonder why the 32X generates that much RF Noise? :/

Well, if you have a noisy picture, but are using composite, switched to RF, and connected through another peice of hardware (VCR) that is where your problem lies. Get to the point where you are using composite, connected directly from the game system to a TV, and your problems will vanish.

A Frankenstein circuitous setup like you have invites picture noise issues at every multiple connection.

You should mod it for S-Video :)
