Anyone else here from Atlantic Canada?

If so, where do you get your classics? Do you know of any real gems?

My favorite place is a little store called Spin-it records in Moncton. They always have a great selection, a lot of rotating stock, used systems and games, and great prices.

I was there this weekend and there were 40 mint boxed master system games, a loose master system, a boxed gamegear, and LOADS of loose classic games.

I only ended up getting a few genesis titles and gamegear games (5 games for $13.00 - can't beat that). :D

Does anyone else in Atlantic Canada know of some great places?

I'm in AC, Bridgewater, NS to be exactl, but alas i'm not really aware of any good game stores. I'd love to find one though.

I live in Atlantic Canada as well, based in Sackville NB. When I get the urge to go hunting for classics I usually hit the local pawn shop, as well as I check out various places in Amherst and in Moncton, but they are all usually over priced. I find the Parlour in Moncton on Mountain road is not too bad to buy from, but they are horrible for what they will give you on trades.

You should both check out Spin-it Records. It's on Main Street in Moncton.

In Fredericton, there's a Digital World and a Gamezilla. The Digital world is okay (I bought an e-reader tonight for $4), the gamezilla has some neat stuff, but their prices are INSANE! They had an NES and Mario 1 for $79 - not boxed or anything.

They had loose copies of Super Mario RPG and FF3 for $99!

Also in Fredericton there's a flea market at the King Place mall on Sundays, theres a few guys there with impressive selections, pricey though.

In SJ its basically the same thing. Theres a digital world and a gamezilla. There's a microplay in Quispamis (those are rare nowadays, and have older games).

Of course there's EB's, Walmarts, Zellers, etc... but those are everywhere.

I assume there's gotta be something good in Halifax. I haven't been in awhile, I don't want to go until I know where to go.

i get some sweet hauls from value village here in SJ, the gamezilla blows here so does the microplay, the second microplay closed last year, beats&bytes has some stuff from time to time as well. the giant flea market out at the driving range close to the ns/nb in the summer usually has some surprising stuff as well.

I forgot about beats & bytes, they're pretty good.

I've only ever seen one game in value village, and that was a DDR dancepad ripoff that plugs directly into the TV. I didn't buy it because (1) it was probably broken, and (2) it was filthy.

I've seen a couple of odds and ends in the salvation army, but its really hit or miss.

What I REALLY love is at the end of August there is a giant flea market in Sussex. It's massive. It usually runs from Friday to Sunday, but if you're willing to pay a little more they'll let you in Thursday night. Some people are still setting their booths up, but there is a lot of great stuff.

Last year I ended up getting a boxed NES, almost mint condition and a bunch of games. Good prices too. There are a lot of second hand shops that set up, so they charge more, but there's also usually a bunch of normal people just selling old games just to be rid of them.

If you go, be prepared to spend a couple of hours at least. When I went last time I was there for 4-5 hours (wear sunscreen - I didn't  )

Oh, I should add, a pretty good local newsgroup is "nb.forsale". There's usually some good stuff on there.

value village can be hit or miss, i'm sure in the last year or so i've gottten around 100 games from there and 3-4 systems, just in the last couple of months i've got stuff like SFII strategy guide, CIB Vic-20 with 8 games NIB tomb raider mem card etc. when i lived in Halifax 5-6 years ago value village there was even better, i imagine it's still the same down there, you could spend a weekend poking around flea markets, pawn shops and hobby stores, seemed to be alot of import stuff last time i had the chance to look.

Update for Saint John - there's a new place by the McAllister mall, I'm not sure of the name of the street (it was near a KFC/taco bell combo)

It's called Second Spin - and its a small store with mostly just music cd's. But they had quite a few games there. I didn't see anything classic, but they had lots of xbox/ps2/cube games.

Hopefully they'll pick up some retro stuff sometime.

I'm a collector living in Halifax that knows of a couple good places to find some games.

There is a Sunday Flea Market at the Penhorn Mall in Dartmouth which has an array of systems and games. The regular vendors charge an arm and a leg for most of their stuff, but If you're lucky you can find someone who is a firstimer and clean house. (This is how I get most of my NES games) My girlfriend managed to snag a couple complete copies of some Atari 2600 games from here.

Pawn shops in Halifax are very hit or miss. I know one of them on Barrington St. has about 20 copies of SMB/Duckhunt and one copy of Rolling Thunder. The rest of the games are very old PC games.

I haven't been to any salvation army shops in the city but I did manage to find some games at a Frenchies (generally used clothing) store, other than that you can find some Steven King Hardcovers pretty cheap.

There is another Sunday Market right in Halifax in the building next to the Forum. Today it was held in the Bingo Building due to some cheerleading expo. Most of the games at this particular Market are overpriced current generation games, although I have managed to find some diamonds in the rough.

Today I picked up a SNES console with 2 controllers, cords and hookups from an elderly lady for 6 bucks at the Sunday Market. There was also a Mario All Stars manual and System manual for the SNES. At one of the other tables there was a Battlemaster game for Genesis which I also picked up. It was a pretty bad haul considering some of the other deals I've been getting lately

Gameworld on Quinpool road, my sole provider of games for almost two years went out of business a couple months ago and I wasn't there for the closing out sale :(. I really could have used that FF8 Standee or those Nintendo Power posters. My friend managed to grab a few Atari stickers and some NES games, so all was not lost.

EB, Walmart and Zellars should go without saying. I did manage to find a few good deals on discounted Dreamcast games at Toy's R Us and some longbox PS1 games at EB though.

Hope this helps you on your game finding journey

As well here in Halifax there's a place called The Last Game Store up by the Lacewood Bus Terminal near Clayton Park which has a little bit of everything, I've even found a few SMS games there!

plus they have tonnes of comics and graphic novels.
