They say April showers bring May flowers, but around here April brings garage sales and outdoor flea markets! Pick up something neat? Post about it here!

This morning I went to the "city-wide" garage sale at the fairgrounds today. I think eBay has hit those things hard; it was mostly crap. I did pick up a copy of EA's Starflight for .50, and a box of blank floppies for another .50 cents.

Still can't believe my luck today. I wasn't going to go to the flea, but one of the regular vendors had an NES top loader last week and I didn't think to ask if he had any dogbone controllers, so that was the purpose for the trip.

I get there and find out he's packing up his stuff for good at that locale (starting the outdoor flea season) and so no dogbone for me. I walk to the back (individual rooms and shops) and decide to ignore the other usual game vendor until I leave.

One of the shop ladies had a stack of Genesis games, "the old stuff she'd go a dollar apiece on". Well, amongst about 10 EA Sports Genny games, I found Wayne Gretzky Hockey, complete and in nice shape, as well as a pair of "sealed" Dreamcast games. They had the original plastic, but it was ripped.

Anyway, NES Wayne Gretzky Hockey CIB, Dreamcast ECW Hardcore Rev0lution and EGG, $1 each.

So I find nothing else and stop at the other vendor because she usually charges $5-6 per loose NES cart. I had pre-planned to get Gremlins 2 just to give me something, and what should I spy, but a few new carts. Nothing special in the stack, but a Tengen cart... I couldn't read the label so I slid the top ones back a little and assumed it looked like it read "Toobin". Not quite...

I know it's not as uber-rare as it once was but hey, I didn't have it... Gremlins 2 and Tengen Tetris... $11.

So for $14 dollars total, it was a good day.

What a great, great, GREAT day.

Went to a yard sale of sorts and picked up, for TWENTY bucks:

http://photos.friendster.com/photos/99/54/25954599/25954704014346l.jpg

Went home, the mail lady came and walked to my door carrying no less than SEVEN (!) packages. She gave me that "you're crazy" look. I make her earn EVERY last cent of this route, hahaha.

Poor lady had to carry all this to my door:

http://photos.friendster.com/photos/99/54/25954599/25955825847774l.jpg

Now let's see what we got!

Sad thing is, I had so many deals in the works, I didn't know for sure what was what in the 7 packages, lol. Now that's when you know you're buying too much, folks.

FLEA MARKET..

Not that many vendors as usual,I think the forcast kept them away.

I spend $10.00 in total for the below.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/Chris1/Helmetcam190.jpg

A vendor friend of mine told of of a KISS Pinball machine located at another vendor friend of mine spot.
I rushed over to see this machine..It was trashed..the playground was dark brown and severely worn, pcbs missing and no back glass..
Me figures whew deep project if i can get it cheap..
Price $350.00...I stood there talking to my vendor friend about a PS2 he was selling and person after person came up asking the price.
One guy that knew about Pinball machines told vendor friend he was Nuts..
Ebay Prices get thrown around between them, parts etc cost....
If I know my vendor friend he got this machine either for free or no more then $50.00
Everybody stopped to look at this machine..I may have bought it as it was for $100.00 if he agreed.

Next table over I see a decent Pachinko Machine with about 10 balls..Sticker Price $135.00 WOW!!!
Electric HONDA Pocket Bike..I wanted to buy this bad...The scavenger Not vendor friend of mine would not sell it...This guy hits up all the other vendors real early then sells the stuff either at higher price or at another flea market..
My question to him was..If it's not for sale the why is it displayed out with everything else..No answer, just a crazy stupid look..
I'd delt with this guy many times,he's the dirtbag of the flea market and known there as that..

Another vendor friend of mine had a NINTENDO System missing the RF switch.
$25.00 but the top was Baked yellow with the shape of the zapper on top,
No cleaning this system..Someone must of left it for a long time with the Zapper on the top in the Sun.
He Sold it too...

Atari 2600 Darth Vader System in Box..Smaller box then the usual long box...
$75.00..I knew better then to ask..

Daryll, how does that Crane Bank work? I've always wanted something like that to mess around with at home, but have never found one(anyone know where I can buy one like his), so I would be interested in how good it works.

As for me, I haven't been hunting in awhile, but I should be hitting the GameStop sale tomarrow and a flea market next weekend.

Stopped by an antique store and got a simplely-made gameboy carrying-case for $2. Man, they had some pretty good Atari stuff there. There had to be like, what, six complete games and one factory sealed for the 2600; plus a box including 2 storage cases, I think about three-different types of controllers and a four-switch atari all in good if not excellent condition. passed-up because of the outrageous price ($49.01?!?!)

Honestly..It works like crap.. LOL ...It has some cool mini toys in it that makes it look Arcade authentic...(So I just display it)
Well worth $10.00 though.............. (I paid $5)
The up-down joystick on these go bad quickly as this on is starting to go...I had another one of these with a dead up-down joystick and I trashed it (missing toys)..It's very hard to take these apart to fix the problem..It goes together like a puzzle..

Really, I got something like that for Christmas one year and it didn't work at all! Thus, why I was wondering how yours worked. Guess they are all made pretty crappy LOL . Thanks for answering my question.

Not so much "finds" as "purchases".

The Gretzky PSP was $3.74 from Target, and the Halo 2 Map Pack was $4.99.

The Xbox 360 and all associated games were my "I'm spending my tax return because I'm getting a divorce and my soon to be ex-wife is crazy" purchase. The Buy 2 get 1 free sale at EB came at the right time!

Looks like you had a good day, Steven!

I, myself, had an excellent day in flea marketing and pawn shopping.

I've been in this town for a year, and I'm still not familiar with many areas so I just kind of went driving around, today. I spotted a Cash America pawn shop and stopped in and found these two little gems:

http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/1416/zeldastarlancer0rm.jpg

The Dreamcast StarLancer was "clearence priced" at just $1.99 and the Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition promo disc had the 'green sticker' making it just $10.00! These two together can go for $80.00 online. I paid $11.99 (plus tax). Not bad at all for a pawn shop (if you don't mind inhaling the power tool fumes).

Then I went to a flea market and paid $12.00 for the following:

http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/5127/nes1pr.jpg

I've always wanted the NES Star Wars and have always been curious about Illusion of Gaia. The other two games, Clash at Demonhead and Flying Warriors, just looked cool.

Total for the day: $25.00

and a SNES version of the C&J Competition Pro Joystick. Anyone have info on this since it's sort of bare on the rarity guide.

You mean one of these?

http://www.startoursinfo.com/DPsale/DP-forsalechampstick.jpg

Of course it's not going to look like that, I've upgraded all the microswitches and replaced the main buttons with competition buttons from Happ Controls, Super Famicom colors. Anyway, I just sold mine (well, it's pending) in my Buying and Selling thread for $60. Of all the real components arcade sticks I've ever owned it's my favorite. Nice solid construction, still lightweight (yeah it's plastic but the underside of the top is a metal plate), and nicely responsive - razor sharp responsive if you upgrade the switches. (ones inside should be Cherry)

Electric HONDA Pocket Bike..I wanted to buy this bad...The scavenger Not vendor friend of mine would not sell it...This guy hits up all the other vendors real early then sells the stuff either at higher price or at another flea market..

I'd delt with this guy many times,he's the dirtbag of the flea market and known there as that..

I've heard the electric Honda pocket bikes are junk, battery and motor problems within the first couple WEEKS of usage. The Razor PR200's seem to be the nicest of the electric models, they were bombing them out at Wal-Mart for $88 last March (2005) - found a stray pallet of them or something. Anyway, for that price I grabbed one (my uncle did as well) and I lucked out on getting the older revision without the "hold down" safety switch on the right grip, faster too. It's been hauling my fatass around problem free since. LOL

Every damn time I go tooling around on a 49cc gasoline pocketbike I get approached with the threat of citation and they've been recently declared totally illegal (noise issues, we got screwed here in CA - lost the karting circuit years ago for the same reason). That and I'm not insured anymore so my girlfriend didn't want me screwing around on them anymore. LOL The electric one is a decent medium for the time being. LOL

I actually went thrifting today...first time in nearly a month. My family had some extra bookmans credit they didn't want which is why I headed out, but they had nothing I wanted. I checked out a nearby thrift though and found:

SMS - Golvelius (complete)
SMS - Phantasy Star (complete)

99 cents each. Marked down from 1.98...../shrugs shoulders.

Probably resell. I've been wanting to pick up Dragon Quest VIII at work...it dropped to 39.99 and is 33 bucks my cost. They guide is like 8 bucks with discount, so sound like a winning deal.

There was an article in OPS2M about Silent Hill, so I thought I'd go to my local game shop and see if they still had the used Silent Hill 2 that's been there for months and months. They did, so I got it for £5.

They had a used Nintendo DS for £60 which tempted me, but it doesn't come with the box. For some reason I don't feel right buying consoles without boxes. I'm still tempted, though. They said it comes with a brand new charger for that price.

I also picked up The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Passenger 57 for £7 each but buy one get one free, so £3.50 each.

I decided to buy the DS, so I went back to the shop this afternoon. I picked out a DS game, I can't remember which one now, then went to the counter where the person was on the phone. While I was waiting I glanced at the case the DS was in. The damn thing had gone!

Oh well, it's probably a good thing for my wallet. It was sort of an impulse decision which I only put a little thought into, anyway.

let's start off by saying i had a good day overall.
got up around 6ish, hit the JOB and had to train a new guy just in case i dont feel like delivering mail (which is almost never) was done by 130 , in between had some car repairs to take care of, then was on the way home. get home and check the mail. gas bill.. open it up and low and behold no bill, a credit, big credit almost $300. that was cool, then got invited to dinner. mmmmmmmm taco night and in the midst of the invite a friend happens to mention that her son spotted an Xbox in the nearby dumpster.. interesting. im diggin taco night better now. so we stop and i head over to scope things out. sure enough there she was just sitting there. bare bones, looked for hookups and such to no avail. figured at best would be something wrong with it. luckily the friend has a xbox so i could at least check it out.
powered up and all, has a crap load of saves and such on it. so i think the hard drive is cool, game wouldn't come up tho, me thinkin laser issue. now i'll have to tinker :D

Stumbling around Wal-Mart, looking for cheap clearance... nothing. So I head down where they moved the TV games joysticks and look around... all new product. Just as I'm about to leave I looked up at the top risers and saw a pair of the Frogger joysticks up there, $4.88 a piece as their knockout prices were. They were 100% out for months, guess a couple showed up in the stockroom. :)

I had a really good find yesterday. For me it is one of the largest finds I’ve had in a while. Here’s what I picked up (pics to follow later today).

-Atari 7800 system complete with 4 joysticks and all cables
The following games:
Pole Position 2 (x2)
Karateka
Choplifter
Rampage (R4)
Dark Chambers
Fight Night
Donkey Kong
Cracked
Asteroids
Commando (R3)
Xenophobe (R5)
Dig Dug
Crossbow
Centipede

-Atari 2800 6-switch complete with all cables and 4 joysticks

And finally the following NES titles:
Puzznic (R6)
Super Dodge Ball (R3)
Rocky & Bullwinkle & Friends (R4)
Crash-n-the boys street challenge (R5)

All for $40! Believe it or not I actually picked up these titles from a local game shop. Normally he gouges the crap out of people with his high game prices. Sitting right next to the $1.99 Super Dodge Ball cart was a copy of Rainbow Islands (R4- $12) that he had marked $29.99! Go figure!

Yesterday, I went and picked up some NES games at the low, low price of FREE.

(all in great condition, just a little dusty)
-Ghosts 'n Goblins
-Gyromite
-Ninja Gaiden
-Ninja Gaiden 2
-Spy Hunter
-Arkanoid(minus controller :( )

So pretty good for free games.

Bottom part of the picture is the actual label on the back of the cart. I now have 2 copies of this, so one is up for trade.

Last night at Noble Collectibles I picked up an Intellivision II with a speech module, two Wico controllers and a big stack of common carts all for $40. I'd been wanting an Inty II for a long time now so it was a good deal. :D

Went all the way out to Hillsboro today only to find out that the CD/Game Exchange that was there closed up shop. Fortunately, there's a few other stores in the area nearby, so I checked those out and got these:

PlayStation:
Test Drive 5 (complete, GH) - $2.99

Gamecube:
RoadKill (complete) - $7.99
I've wanted to check this out for a while, but until today, I couldn't find a copy that wasn't scratched to hell.

GBA:
Urban Yeti (loose) - $7.99
Pretty excited about finding this one, as I've wanted to check it out. Playing as a Yeti in a city looking for a girlfriend may have been too odd of a concept for many, but it isn't for me.

And that'll probably be it for a while.

Also, this arrived in the mail today:

Gamecube Memory Card 59 (first-party) - trade

Project Rub (NDS) - new, $30.00AU
I returned this to K-Mart and then went and bought the $10.00AU copy Toys 'R Us were selling today. :-D

Also:
Sonic R (PC) - complete, $15.00AU
This is the original big box release from 1997, not the slim-case re-release from last year.

Plus it was technically free with the trade value I got
