View Full Version : Easiest/cheapest console to get a complete collection for?

I did a search and I couldn't find anything like this so I figured I'd ask. Which console no matter how long the run was is the easiest and cheapest to get a complete collection of. I think it would be cool to have 100% of the games for a system but I don't have tons of money to spend. I wouldn't mind if it took awhile to find all the games so long as there weren't like 5 or 10 $100+ games. Does anyone have any idea? I'm not really interested in having a handheld system so thats why I said console.
Thanks

It's been discussed plenty of times, most recently a couple of weeks back. Not counting handhelds, 7800 or SuperGrafx is probably your best bet. US 32X & Virtual Boy shouldn't be too hard either - it's the imports that get silly for those. Or maybe Pico if that floats your boat ;)

Sorry about that, maybe I didn't go back far enough.... opps :embarrassed:
Pico is incredibly hard to do,considering the 100+ titles that came out,and STILL COMES out in Japan

Yeah, but the US/Euro libraries are very small (20-odd US, 10 Euro).

Out of everything, Game.com That one shouldn't cost much at all.

Yeah, sounds good. If it could list the amount of games released in each region (Jpn/US/Euro) and the number of region-exclusive titles too, it'd be an interesting read.

game.com
the only game that should give you any trouble whatsoever is Wheel of Fortune 2, and once it pops up it'll go for like $25. The rest will go for $5 at max each, sealed. It'd be easy to complete a sealed collection for under $100. I'm just too lazy to buy the last few, but I'm very close to it myself :)

If you want to collect for something besides game.com, an Intellevision collection isn't enormous and you can regulary find boxed/complete games for cheap.

If you're specifically looking for console games, and likely more mainstream ones, I would say the N64 or Genesis would be the way to go. They both are really easy to find for the common games, and since they are so common, the harder to find titles still pop up frequently.
It would talk quite awhile to get a complete set of games, but if you did it over time, I don't think the cost would be that overwhelming.

Well, i don't think this is the easiest to find, But the action max is the cheapest i know of. The titles cost extremely little (I paid less than $2 total for all 6 of my action max games, one wich is a duplicate)

Sounds like Game.COM or 32X US would be easy to get into. The SUperGrafx games can go for lots of money.

err..... I would suggest N64 for a FUN and easy collection to go for. The above mentioned sets are small cause most of them suck. The N64 has many fun titles and most they're aren't any super rare titles. The best thing is that the system isn't that old so you can find them often at garage sales.

Since you didn't say how long you wanted to spend collecting for it. I would have to say the Sega Genesis is still very cheap to collect for. And since Most of the games Came in Plastic cases you can still find them complete. (even the cardboard cases are relatively easy to find.) There's only a few "Rare" ones but you shouldn't have to spend more than 20 bucks on if you haggle. i.e. Mutant league hockey,Space invaders 91' ect.
And don't quote me but there are a few more, also the Genesis is a fun system and a lot of replay value. I still play mine. UMK3 rocks.

I think they would be:
- Game.com
- Virtual Boy
But I think that the important thing in collectin games is that it is fun and you get happy feeling,.. Not like 'Have to complete this collection"
Thanks for reading, Captain Qb.

I'm going to say that the 32x isnt either as cheap or as easy to complete as most people think. The game.com is way cheaper.

I'm with Mr. Faxanadu. N64 probably isn't the easiest, per se, but you'll get a lot of really fun games in there, too. And why collect a system that doesn't have many fun games to play?

Game.COM -Easy
32X-Easy, but you'll spend over $50 on 2-3 games...
Intellivision-WHo said this was easy??? Cart only, possibly. There are some doozies out there, though.
Virtual BOy US-Easy
Supergrafx Japan-Easy (they aren't even that costly)
Atari 7800-Not as easy as people think...(I am STILL looking for a boxed Tank COmmand and boxed Title Match Pro Wrestling, and it's been almost a year since they popped up on eBay at decent prices, or in the case of a US boxed Title Match, AT ALL....)
It all depends on what you are going for....for the bigger systems, Genesis and N64 are easier to complete loose than boxed, like many systems....
The easiest classic systems to collect for are: AStrocade (just the Videocade carts and not the crazy random bootleg releases or tape stuff), and the 5200...(Bounty Bob is attainable all the time, just costly...same with Meteorites and Quintana Roo...it's the boxes that are difficult to locate...)

If you're getting the majority of your games on eBay, Virtual Boy and game.com won't be that hard. When I bought a Virtual Boy I paid $75 and got 8 games, 4 complete. There should be 20-22 games, I think. Waterworld will be the only tough one unless you're going to collect the Japanese games. I would recommend trying to find the hard case for the Virtual Boy as well.

With the exception of Iron Soldier 3 and maybe Space Invaders XL, the NUON isn't too hard to collect for, considering that it only had six games or so. :/

Easiest? Action Max. Seriously. I found the console for $4.99 boxed and by the end of the week had the complete set new in box. All under $20.00.
Complete Systems -- Dreamcast, Jaguar... Action Max.

As ive never heard of it, can someone give me a brief explanation of what an Action max is, and how many games are avaliable for it?
Game.com is an easy one to collect for, shame the system is so crap the games are unplayable. Dreamcast is a good one to go for, complete us or euro shouldnt cost much, apart from the 2d fighters that is, and a large proportion of the games are fun.

I've completed US SMS, Sega CD, 32X, one shy of a US Saturn collection, and close on the DC, Lynx, and TG-16.
The most gratifying of them all was easily the Sega CD. So many cool games in there that people just don't know about. Plus, they're, in my opinion, the most aesthetically pleasing in terms of packaging, especially uniformly shelved.
It's not a large library but it's respectable, and there are a couple of $100ish titles, but I'd highly recommend it as a starting point if you're a fan of the platform.

Before thinking which collection is the cheapest, I would ask myself "is it worth owning it"?
I don't think I could be too proud of a complete game.com collection.

The action max is a system that you hook your VCR to, then hook to your TV. it's games are on Video tapes, There were only like 5 games made for it.
It isn't really action maximum, since if you have some action max tapes, just use your VCR without the system, and use a fake gun as the l;ight gun.
There was also one more tape based system, the Interactivision. It is much more interactive.

Yes. It's essentially trash. The "games" aren't worth playing through more than once, and most of them get old before they're over. Since they are something like 30 minutes long, you know that this just isn't good.
I think it is a very interesting and strange system, and after I got the system I found that I could get everything else so cheaply, I figured why the heck not. Unless you're really interested in it, I wouldn't bother. It's really not that cool to own an Action Max set.
I'd suggest doing something that interests you and that you can set your own limits on. My first collection I decided to complete was my SNES collection, which consisted of picking up the four or five games I had lent out as a kid and never seen again. Now, my SNES collection is "complete", yet it only has 15 or 20 games in it.
Set your own goal for "complete" -- maybe all the R1 NES carts, or all the 2600 Activision games, or all of the Sega-made Genesis games or something, and work toward that. If you find you really like it, set more ambitious goals after that. But don't collect a complete system just to say you have it, or you'll be stuck with absolute garbage (Action Max / Game.Com). Having a complete set of something that you think is cool such as the above smaller ones, in my opinion, is just as cool as owning "every" cartridge or CD or whatever for a system.

Also, if your going after your first collection I wouldn't bother considering All the imports and Japaneese titles It will create much stress.
My opinion only.

Odyssey 2 has a low game count - plus only a few titles will carry a moderate cost. Not exactly common, but common enough to make a go for.

I'm in the midst of a quest for boxed completion. Most games are like $3 boxed. There are 3 or 4 of those board game - type games that can be found on eBay for $25 or so.
