I'm just wondering what other retro gamers' opinions are regarding the status of this game. Should it count as an official US release or not? I say yes, because even though it is an unlicensed game, (like the early Accolade titles for the Genesis) it is still a commercial release. That is what makes the difference to me. Otherwise I'd consider it a homebrew.

So what do you think? Should it be counted as necessary for having a complete US Genesis collection, or should it be considered a nice optional addition, but not a requirement?

I know this is all subjective, depending on how much of a completist you are, or what your collecting "rules" are, but I'm just curious to know what other people think about it.

Oh and while we're at it, are you getting it or not? I just placed my preorder last night, and I can hardly wait for it!

Personally, I'd class it alongside all other aftermarket games - nice to have, but not necessary to call your set 'complete'. As you say though, it's an entirely subjective matter.

Oh, and mine's been pre-ordered since Jan 1st :)

I'd say it qualifies, since it's a commercial release that has the full support of the original publisher. I'd just classify it as another unlicensed game, like the Accolade ones.

I don't think so. I don't think that the term "commercially released" really means anything. anyone can register a website and sell a game under a company name. The Genesis died long ago. Anything new being released is either homebrew or aftermarket.

I've had it on pre-order since last December, I'd call it "homebrew", that's presuming we all receive our copies ordered LOL

I consider it necessary for a complete collection. That's part of the reason I preordered it. I have NEVER preordered a game before Beggar Prince. I don't have near a complete genesis collection right now. But one day i will and this will be one of the most difficult games to track down when that time comes.
