I recently bought a Genesis 2 and a few games.. namely Castlevania Bloodlines and Sparkster. I have Shining Force on the way.

As a kid I pretty much played Nintendo products from the NES in 1986 til the Gamecube now. I rarely ever got the chance to play a Genesis. Outside of the games I already have, can anyone recommend some games that I should definitely look into?

THANKS!

**EDIT: Oops.. somehow I started this in Buying and Selling, can a mod move it to Classic Gaming?**

You've missed so many good games, but no worries, at least your searching for them now. The obvious choices are games such as

Gunstar Heroes
Phantasy Star (II and IV in particular)
Toe Jam & Earl
Rocket Knight
Contra Hardcorps

and plenty of others that people will be mentioning shortly. But you should really try to look into some of the more obscure (probably not the best way to describe it) games. A good example is Gain Ground. Others include the plethora of shooters that aren't in the big series (Thunderforce, Raiden etc) such as Fire Shark and Vapor Trail. The Genny is a shooter fans dream come true as there are many good ones.

I'm going to have to suggest Vectorman, I love it. 8-)

If you are into beatemups, you should try TMNT Hyperstone Heist. I have also heard some very good things about Gain Ground and Crack Down, though I haven't played them.

Another vote for Gunstar Heroes, its a great game. If you like shooters, look for M.U.S.H.A and Truxton. Also pick up the classics like Ghouls"N Ghosts, Altered Beast, and Golden Axe, just to name a few.

I recommend in no particular order:

Mutant League Football
Quackshot
Streets of Rage series
Shining Force I and II
Gunstar Heroes
Toe Jam & Earl (the original, not panic in funkotron)

(and I know I'm going to get bashed for this but check it out if your bored...)

Time Killers!! (very hard to find)

There is a ton more def worth checking out, and then there is the sega CD addition too!

That Castlevania game (ehh, can't remember the name)
The Sonic series (obviously)
I like an Alex Kidd game I played (I think it was Enchanted Castle).

Castlevania Bloodlines, Contra, and Gunstar seconded.

Everyone pretty much said what I was going to say. I also wish to recommend Castle of Illusion and Landstalker.

The Haunting is a quirky, but fun, game - at least for me.

If you like strategy games, you might want to check out Dune: The Battle for Arrakis and Herzog Zwei.

A good online reference for games (aside from Digital Press, that is :)) is the Genesis Collective (http://www.genesiscollective.com/ShowGames.php).
