minor corrections -
superman's 67 (1938)
spidey first appeared in aug 1962 not 63 - really only took about 25 years for the prices to start skyrocketing, also. Haven't stopped going up since.

I said 30 years because I remember the around the 30th anniversary there was a huge controversy over a high grade #1 sold at auction. It got unexpected big money at the time and the golden age collectors were just aghast that a silver age book could be worth so much. They called it the end of the hobby or a fluke and tried very hard to argue that silver age books should never be worth that price when you could buy several great golden age books for that price. Of course it wasn't up to them. It was up to these new collectors who didn't care that key silver age books should automaticly be worth less than all the key golden age books.

As for NP yes it has to be an issue in high grade but don't be suprized to see it happen. Hulk 181 is a good example.

Anagrama: Well, since Smurfs 2 sells for more (180-220£) than Mahjong ($305),why not? :)

You can buy the most rare car of the american best seller car producer but it will be always cheaper than the rarest Ferrari in comparison.

Unless the pope drove it LOL

I think that you're thinking of the white mountain copy of Amazing Fantasy 15 rather than a #1... but yeah it sold for 35-40K (?) around the 30 year mark and did cause a hubbub.

I have to say though, thinking back, even then I didn't think it was SO crazy although I can see how an older collector would have. White mountain was generally considered the best silver age pedigree out there in the pre cgc days and before the curator and pacific coast pedigrees came to market - so you were getting what was considered THE very finest silver age copy of any book out there at the time except for possibly the white mountain FF1.

I can't recall how it graded out (9.4?) but I'm pretty sure it's not considered the best copy anymore. But that just goes to show that other gold nwcs will come to light ;) Even that sale didn't shake the curator and pacific coast copies out of the woodwork - so even a 15k gold nwc sale wouldn't shake the remaining copies either. They'll take their time in getting to market, although even a worst case scenario of 26 copies is practically nothing.

Thats the whole thing. The older collector can't understand the changes in the basic foundation they set in the first place. The new collector sees it plain as day and can't understand why anyone would stick to the old guidelines which make no sence to him.

So if a NP1 10.0 hits 5 digits in 2015 you will find yourself with us old collectors scratching our heads. While the new collectors will think its a bargin.

Mainly becuase there are a lot more known copies of Smurfs 2, and the few people I know with a boxed Mah Jong already have both.
Smurfs 2 gets more money because it's well-known and is essential for a complete Euro collection, whereas Mah Jong is a Hong Kong oddity that only the real hardcore care about.
Besides, if copies of Smurfs 2 keep popping up at the rate they have over the last few months, I doubt it'll remain more expensive for very long.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with your basic thinking. Let's switch back to video games - sealed copies of super mario bros used to cost nothing. I know someone who bought a sealed copy on ebay for $3 back in the day. They are now a couple hundred a pop despite being common, while much more rare stuff hasn't gone up as much.

But the problem with this example is that NP1 isn't a video game, it's a video game tie in. So I don't think this logic applies to the same degree... consider my overstreet price guide analogy above.

But yeah I agree with your main point that new collectors can and do change established perceptions. It just remains to be seen where these guys end up putting their money. Gold nwcs? Sealed SMBs? Protos? A little of everything? Time will tell. gold nwc is a good bet as a future grail to catch/surpass most everything, but it's not a sure lock. We're older collectors ourselves don't forget, and nobody has a crystal ball. I think you have your money on the right horse though. I still wouldn't pay anywhere near 15k for one though.

I think we should settle this once and for all by having a priest bless my NWC cart, making it the holiest of grails in the videogame world--all other carts will just be plain old grails. It will inflate my cart to the priceless level.

Of course, most would argue that Jesus's cup was not tangibly valuable originally (not made of jewels or gold or anything...probably just glass or ceramic, or even wood). With that argument, a blessed SMB/Duckhunt cart would be worth the most.

On top of this, I will have eternal life, once I drink from my NWC cart.

Don't laugh too hard guys. Blessed roseries and hosts from communion were selling for over 1000 bucks in the days and weeks after the pope died.

Where is the ownage?

It is a young new comer to the neo geo scene(and as you can see even in the future new collectors will enter the neo geo world) and the neo appears to be the best system he finally can have.
I would say nintendo is not playing the big role at all in this story .

Just goes to show how much more popular the Nintendo sytems were, considering he had them all long before the Neo. Plus, the Neo cost about $700 in the Gold set when it came out, heh heh. I was just busting your balls, though. :D

I'm sure that I'm not the only one with this question but I do have the balls to ask it. What is this game? I don't feel like searching rather get a more detailed response since it appears a lot of the responders know quite a bit about this game.

And as for me, any game going for more than $100 is too much for me. I'm a collector but too cheap and poor to dig that far into my pockets.

Nintendo worl championship Gold edition bud.
