No sir.
I was all in at first, but Sony's attitude lately has made me think otherwise. I think I might sit on the sidelines this generation and pick one system to rely on.
So far it's Wii for me.

Too expensive, considering I basically have no income.
Everything's too expensive for me.
Nope never purchased a console at launch and dont plan to, until the WII comes out.

No.
I mean unless it has a more reasonable price than is being assumed.
I also havent been real impressed with the game lineup... Till I saw that Assassin game... man that thing looks cool and the Crusades are a great time period for a game to be set in.. not 600 dollars cool.. but cool.
And the new Mercenaries playground of destruction wont be on 360! Doh.

The PS3 will have a price drop about 6 months after launch, if not sooner, so theres no point in buying one straight away.
Now i will buy the Wii on launch, as it will be cheap, and probably wont see a quick price drop, and theres going to be great games on launch.

Well I still honestly think Sony will drop the price before it's launched, but I will see, maybe or maybe not.
No.
I had planned to buy only one next gen console, and after enjoying my Xbox the most out of last gen, it made sense to jump onto the 360.
Then we heard more about the Wii....and I'll be all over that one as well. My young son will have a blast with it due to the way the controller works. He'll prefer it over our other consoles.
I've now gone full steam ahead on my 360 library after seeing the Sony situation. I'm not $aving up for the PS3 launch "just in case" anymore.
My friend has planned to buy the PS3 anyways, since he enjoyed the PS2 the most of the last three.

No.
I'm not buying anything until they announce a price-drop in 2008. In the meantime I've got a few hundred unplayed PS1/2 games & Super Nintendo games to fill my time.

HAYell no. I will buy a PS3 when I can get a used one for under $200.00, and there are a bunch of games I really want to play.
And with the Wiivolution being $200.00, and SNK announcing the Wii is it's new home (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=9343) There isn't any question where my next-gen monies are headed.
According to me, the only game consoles worth more than $300.00 are the PC Engine DUO and the Neo Geo. :P

I would like to take a "wait and see" approach to the PS3.
I might try and buy one to resell :embarrassed: But I highly doubt it. I know that I would like to own a PS3 eventually.

Nope, too exspensive. Though I wouldn't buy one even if they weere $300. Like the 360, it just doesn't intereste me enough.
I do plan on getting a Wii at launch, assuming they're $199 or less.

Assuming I can even find one at launch, most likely no. Anyway most launch games for a system suck. It usually takes a few months for the good games to come out so your sitting their with a $600 dust collector till then. I'll get it down the line when the price drops significantly.

Definitely not at launch. Way too much $$$. I may get a Wii after it has been out a few months.

06-01-2006, 01:34 PM
I'm definitely going to try to get one. Of course, a big part of it is the Blu-Ray factor. I'm also a home theater nut, and the PS3 will be the cheapest way to get a Blu-Ray player for quite some time. I'm also a videogaming nut, so that's a huge part of it too.
I'm not at all excited about having to fork over $646.49 ($599 plus tax where I live) to get one, and that's if I can get one without having to deal with a forced bundle. But I figure I'm paying $200 extra for the Blu-Ray player, and I'm cool with that.
One thing that does really suck, is the fact that the launch lineup is going to be very weak. There isn't going to be a huge number of exclusive PS3 games available in the first 6 months, and the multiplatform games will look virtually identical on the 360, and might actually run better on the 360 considering many of the teams will already have a 360 game or two under their belt. All of the really big PS3 games that I'm looking forward to, aren't going to be coming out till Xmas 2007.

Looks like the replies are coming in anyway.
This might be the first new system I buy since the Dreamcast... but I'm still waiting for at least six months. The reasons I'm waiting are...
1. The first round of PS3's will be unreliable
2. The launch games will most likely be unimpressive
3. It will cost too much
4. I'm not waiting in any damn line
5. I'm not going to pre-order just to hear they didn't get enough machines in stock

What else can I do with $650? (The PS3 will be $649.50 with 8.25 sales tax) Hmm....
Man, I could get a DUO-R to replace my PC Engine Duo with the sound issues, plus some great PC Engine titles. I could get four or maybe five really hot Neo Geo games. I could begin my journy into the realm of Superguns... I could fill in those system collection gaps; don't have a Channel F, Jaguar, 3D0, etc.. .. I could buy one of those books that tells me how to make $400,000.00 a year by selling books that tell people how to make $400,000.00 a year.
Or I could get three weeks worth of gasoline.

I wonder how much profit potential there will really be. How much were 360s going for, 7 or 8 hundred? (I mean after the first few days).
There might not be that much margin on the sale after the first little while (obviously the first few days will be crazy).

Well I'm sure the PS3 will have a bigger release, instead of releasing 5 like Microsoft decided to do with the 360, so it probably won't get THAT crazy. Then again, people are idiots when it comes to releases, so be sure to sell your PS3 box on e-bay and get some money back.

I just don't know that you can get enough for it to make it worth the hassle and risk. I mean, I can see units on ebay for 1500 for like the first week or something, but after that... how much more than the already nosebleed sticker price are people going to pay?
After your $600, sales taxes, ebay fees, paypal fees, you're going to be into this thing for at least 650. And there's always the possibility the buyer stiffs you somehow through a chargeback or something. Oh yeah, and then you have to actually stand in line and get one of the damn things, cart it home, set up the auction, go to the post office. So you get what, maybe 750 for it on ebay? Fuck, why not just work an extra couple hours at work? You'd probably net more money in the end for the same amount of time spent.

06-02-2006, 05:41 AM
There are only two reasons I would get a PS3 on launch:
1) Sony sends me one. Is this a pipe dream? Not really, I have good contacts at Sony. So this is really the only possibility of me getting one at launch.
2) If I can find one local (ha ha) I would likely put it up on eBay. I know that is evil, isn't it. But think of all the Wii loot I could buy with that money?
Since the Wii and PS3 are shipping at (nearly) the same time, we are being asked to chose which to purchase. The Wii is the obvious choice, purely on games alone.
I am also not a huge buyer or watcher of DVDs, so the Blu-ray drive does not really give me goose bumps.
Will I get a PS3 ever? Sure I will. Once MGS4 and a few other titles are actually on store shelves, that is when I will think about that $600+ investment.

I planned to...
until I saw the launch price.
Also I need to consider that I can't even buy the new Toshiba HD-DVD player because it will not output a signal over HDMI if it does not sense a display being turned on. This is a big issue since some displays will not allow you to turn on HDMI unless it receives an incoming signal. Put these two together, and you can't use it.

Unless there is going to be a shortage and high demand like the 360 had, No.
I think I'm done buiying ANY new consoles.
I got such a huge backlog across all my (9) systems it'll take me another 20+ yrs to get to them all.
Plus, other things are now taking priority, sadly...

At launch? No.
Too close to Xmas and the Wii launch (where i'm looking at 10 of the 16 launch titles as well). However like the PS2 and everything else (Xbox 360) that I didn't buy at launch I will probably pick it up once supply catches up a little more. ie, the following spring.

I cant say whether or not it will have that early of a price drop but another reason to hold off for a year would be the fear of getting screwed one way or another by hardware mistakes. However, if I do have the money for it and I have moved to HDTV by then, I will buy it at launch.
Now, the Wii being cheaper than the PS3 doesnt make $250 cheap. Thats still a lot of money and I view the Wii as another DS in the sense that it does (or will in the Wiis case) offer some decent content but it isnt worth full price to me.

I, personally, will not buy a PS3... that is unless the price ever drops below $200. Until then, it's Wii and 360 for me.
Though I did notice at my local Game Crazy that it seems (at least in my area) that the general public is more excited for the PS3 rather than the Wii. Game Crazy has sign-up sheets for pre-orders of PS3 and Wii. The Wii sheet has 2 pages of names... while the PS3 sheet has 3. I wonder how many of those 3 pages worth of people actually know the thing's gonna be $600.

You should ask them if they're requiring a full price security payment for the PS3. The places I've talked to are requiring that.

I just might do that.
It would make sense afterall... considering most of the general public is probably oblivious to the latest online gaming news. They probably see a 3 after the word "Playstation" and immediately decide they have to have it no matter what.... even without first knowing how much they're gonna have to shell out to buy it.

And the new Mercenaries playground of destruction wont be on 360! Doh.
Mercenaries 2 is the exact reason I will be buying a PS3 at (or near) launch.
I agree with most here that $600 is ridiculous for a console. On the other hand, $600 is around 1/2 of what I pay each month for rent. I guess it just comes down to how effectively you can rationalize spending (wasting) money.
Also you just know that Atlus, Nippon Ichi, Square-Enix, etc are going to release their "A" material on Sony's machine exclusively.
I'll bet 80% of the people here who say they won't buy a PS3, will have one by the end of 2007.

Not a chance in hell. At $660 Cdn (and I don't believe that exchange rate, I'll believe it when I see it) + 14% sales tax, plus an extra controller and a game I'm probably looking at $875 Canadian to be able to actually get any use out of it. Homey don't play that. I would start to consider it at half that cost. I wouldn't even entertain the notion at full retail. No frickin' way. And I did buy both a PS1 and a PS2. But the ps3 price tag is way beyond what I want to pay. I consider the 360 too expensive.... let alone the ps3.
Frankie23
06-05-2006, 06:31 PM
Gods no. First off, I own two PS2's, and didn't pay for than $50 total between the two of them. Neither of them is a reliable machine, but between the two I can usually get one to play what I want. I live in Canada, and the price is ridiculously exorbitant, especially in light of the fact that, economical indicators taken into account, the US and Canadian dollars will be almost at parity by then. Thirdly, I'm definitely buying a Wii around launch, and don't want to have to deal with two new systems at the same time. After the Wii, I'll probably get a 360 come spring/summer, after a price drop or two. So, definitely not in the forseeable future.
Mind, they bring out a sequel to Rez, I might have to reconsider...

I planned on buying PS3 on launch but after they changed the controller, named it playstation 3, copied from nintendo (like usuall) I decided to wait and save my 650$.
I bought a PS2 on launch and since then I have only purchased 6 games. Most of them were 10 dollars and under.
600$ for something boring, maybe surprising, all your really buying is ''God of War'' ''Jak and Daxter'' and Graphics.
So its a complete no from me. (I have it on reserve though)

I plan to get one on launch, hopefully I'll be able to get in line in time to get one.
While I've been tempted to get a 360, I've decided to hold out for a PS3 and save myself some money. Yes, I said save money. I want a next gen gaming console, a next gen media player, and I need wireless capabilities since I can't run an ethernet cable to my room. So for me the PS3 is the more sensible since I'll be saving $100 (360 + HD DVD + wireless adapter = $700). Sure, I dont have to have the extras, but I want them so to me the $600 price tag is worth it. Hopefully my friend can get me his 10% employee discount at Wal-Mart to save me some money
