A store is closing down. They are selling me 124 Nintendo 64 games for $1200. I have not seen the games though because they are all stored in their warehouse. They told me that they are all rental games but in good condition. They also come in boxes and most with instructions except for those that wer stolen when the game was rented out.

My goal is to collect a complete a set of N64 games. I only have about 10 games right now.

I can't decide...

Is this a good deal? Should I get it?

Please give me some advice. Thanks!

Thats about $10 each. It might be worth it if 50% isnt sport games hehe.

A large amount of those games won't be worth $10, and you will be able to pick up for nothing in fleas/gamestop/what have you.

I say wait, and then slowly pick up titles, so you'll actually play each one.

Chances are a lot of them are $1 sports titles. See if you can talk them down some, or if you can pick and choose what you want.

I would say no. Probably 10% of the N64 library is worth more than $10 a game.

I agree with the previous 2 posters. That seems a tad high for 124 games you haven't seen. The point about getting them cheap at garage sales, and such is well made. I just bought 20 complete N64 games for $.50 each last weekend at a garage sale.

I don't think I would run out and spend $10 each on some random N64 games.

It might me worht it if they told you what games you'll get, but otherwise, it will probably be mostly "Madden (Insert year here)", "NBA Live (Insert year here)", <JOKE> "Extreme Walking", "Tricycle Unleashed" </JOKE>, and any other sports game you can think of

No way. Or I'll put it this way...they may be at an absolute max worth $1200, but who is going to pay that much for a bunch of ex-rentals that may or may not have instructions.

The good news is the owner will never get that much for them so you can negotiate. I would show up at his store with 5 fresh $100 bills...take it or leave it.

$600 at absolute most. Of course they'll tell you they're in good condition, but they're rentals, that simply isnt' possible. Not to mention you'll get dozens of sports titles that aren't worth squat. Hell, even $600 is too much.

I'd also ask if they are 124 different games. 'Cause nobody wants 124 copies of Super Mario 64, no matter how good it was.

I'll have to say no as well. $1200 for N64 rentals? Eww.

Unless I got a rough list of what the games are, inspected them all myself, AND talked him down a bit, then I would consider it. Otherwise, do what McBacon suggested and slowly pick up titles.

Tough to say. 124 games for $1200 equals about $9.68 each, but I would say no, unless you like a lot of the games offered.

I would say no. A local rental place sold me 141 N64 games for $200 all with box and about 75% had books

About 40 were sports and rest were not

So that price is way too much money

I wouldn't pay that much. I would pay 600 the most.

I'd do what was said above and walk in with 5-7 hundred in cash, take it or leave it. People get exited when they see cash.

I would say absolutely NO WAY. Not even close. For a bulk purchase like that, I wouldn't want to go over about 3 bucks per game. $400 sounds like a decent offer if you are actually looking to collect for that system. $1200 is highway robbery. You could split that lot up and sell each game individually and you would be lucky to just recoup the cost.

Off the top of my head, the only two N64 games that I would pay $10 for if I found them in the wild are Harvest Moon 64 and Paper Mario, although Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 would both also be worth the purchase price (I wouldn't pay $10 for them because they are easily found though.)

400 - 500$ ya if its not sports crap.

1200$ no.

Look through the games. If none of them are Ogre Battle 64, just punch the owner in the face and laugh.

And $1200 is just not worth it.

$372.00 MAX! = $3.00 each for bulk purchase

Also remember,
1) he's already made his money back with the rental fees.
2) the boxes and manuals are most likely full of stickers, written on or torn up.
3)he most likely had a 'Going out of business sale' prior to closing shop
4) Are there any other parties interested in the lot?...

if he says he's going to sale them on eBay if no one pays what he wants, you can buy them cheaper on auction and save on shipping cost.

I figure if you're considering $1,200.00, you might want to think about the possibility of trading/reselling some of the other stuff you might/can get.

What else does he have? any promo stuff, banners, posters, what about PSx or SNES stuff and handhelds or consoles, empty game boxes/cases, loose manuals, player's guides?

Have you considered display racks/cases? you might want to display your collection at home.

Also try to close the deal near the end of the month or before he needs to pay for storage. (warehouse = storage unit ?)

Instead of the $100 bills, a wad of $20's in each pocket, pulling out each wad as you get closer to YOUR price.

FYI; Gamestop will be getting rid or their entire stock of N64 stuff just before the PS3 launch, in about 4 months.

It seems to be a buyer's market for N64. :)

Just a thought.

I think, I think toooooo much!

Never in life should you pay that much for N64 games.

What he said, go in with like 400 bucks, ask to SEE the games, then decide if it's even worth offering 400 bucks for it.

Maybe $300 on the outside. I'm not really interested in N64 though. $1200 is reeediculous. I can't think of many, if any, common game systems that I would pay $10 a game for a large lot. Maybe PS2. No, probably not that. Not for rentals.

I have bought many carts from rental stores, as well as having a complete N64 collection. This is not a good deal at all. While some of the carts boxed would be a great deal, you are really gambling on paying way too much for a ton of crap. Here is my advice. First of all dont offer a price until you see the product. Cherry pick the rare stuff and playable stuff and make an offer on that. The rental store wants to move the stuff, make a reasonalble offer. Tell him what is crap and what is not worth $10.00 a game. If the man throws the Ebay curve ball, let him have the games...and wish him well selling them at that price by walking away. Sometimes the best way of getting a fair price is by offering a lower one or by simply walking away.

Shoot,I'd sell all my boxed N64 games for way less then what that place wants..

NO!!@(#$!()@*#!

Just watch bulk buys on eBay and you'll find better deals, or you can do the usual slow collecting by visiting your local pawn shops and thrift stores over time. If you absolutely need to collect fast, then go back to the bulk eBay stuff. At least you can see what you're getting!

There's a reason they're being sold sight unseen.

Also, rental games are NEVER in good condition. You have been lied to (or at least assume that).

Holy crap don't DO IT MAN!

If you do, I got a bridge to sell to ya....

seriously, $1200 is insane. Esp. for 124 sight-unseen N64 rental games.

Holy Hell No! N64 stuff is pretty cold right now, with the exception of a few games. I have been finding games all over for $1 or $2 each. Figure it this way ,$1 for sports title, $2 for anything else and $1 per box if in good shape. This is all based on if the cart labels are descent. I would say between $250-$300 tops.

Chances are he will not come down that low, so make you offer, leave him you number and walk away. After he gets done figuring out they are not worth what he thought, I'm sure he will call. If not, you still have $1200 to spend on ebay where you will get a ton more games for the money.

Three years ago, I bought every Genesis, NES, and N64 game that a rental place was moving out to make room for more PS2 stuff. Every single game for all systems was complete and in really good shape for rentals. For the bulk deal, I paid $1 per game.

Today, I'd be hard pressed to even pay that for N64 games. Don't drop $1200 on this. Remove a zero.

If they are not duplicates and are complete, then I'd give them $5 each, TOPS. And for buying that many, I'd offer them $3 each.

Like everyone already said...no way in hell!

I negotiate with ex rentals by a "per game" basis, you have to consider that they already MADE MONEY on these games by renting them out...and they've already been used a LOT...and they aren't doing a thing with them. The most I'd pay is 2.00 per game, 3.00 if they were complete and in good condition.

I'd honestly offer 150.00, take it or leave it, but if they want 1200.00 for them than they'd laugh at you and keep em storage and do absolutely nothing with them.

Happened to me once, a rental store had a storage room full of NES, SNES, Genesis & N64 games, close to 1000 games. They were doing nothing with them, they had 2 small boxes out for sale that had 5.00-9.00 price tags on them, I offered the owner of the shop 1.00 per game to take them all...she said no. I couldn't offer anymore because I don't have thousands of dollars laying around to blow and I wouldn't offer anymore than that anyway. I'm a stubborn ass sometimes.

I can only mirror what everyone else has said.

Trebuken
06-14-2006, 01:02 PM
How mnay stickers on the boxes?
Are the boxes sun-bleached?
How many sports titles?
How many duplicayes?

Look for the more expensive and rare games..
-ISS 2000
-Worms
-Harvest Moon
-Clyfighters SC
-Ogre Battle
-Stunt Racer
-Kirby's and Marios

$1200 is crazy but so is $400 or less. Look at whether you can find these games anywhere else in your area first and decide if your willing to sell them on ebay. I think any boxed N64 games is worth $5 if mint, sports titles even.

Later,

Thanks for all the advice!!!! I haven't logged on for the last couple of days, didn't know there were so many responses.

I DID not buy the lot. I told the owner it's not worth it and only to contact me again if he will lower the price. He never replied =)

Thanks again for all the help
