Ok, so the thread on the DS boots got me thinking....

Are there any expensive classic games that are know to have had mass-produced bootlegs? Games specifically pirated because of their high after-market (eBay) value?

I would hope everyone would know about the copies of Ginka Fukei Densetsu Sapphire for the PCE Arcade CD. Seems this certainly was a mass-produced run. Very, very, good from what I've heared, but there are some very noteable differences.

I've also heared rumours that a bootleg run of Dracula X for the PCE Super CD exist too. However, I'm not too sure as there'd be loads on eBay, and someone would have spotted them by now. Unless they're that good?

So does anyone know of any others to watch out for? Are there any of the expensive Japanese MD games that you need to be careful with?

I did do a search before starting this. If a proper thread exists, lock this up.

There aren't loads of them, but there are quite a few. I've seen 5 or 6 auctions where they were all missing the cover/booklet and others where they were missing the spine.

Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon SuperS for the PlayStation is NOTORIOUS for being pirated. I see it all the time on eBay and most of the time the seller is honestly in the dark that it isn't the genuine article. If you know what you're looking at, the disc art is usually a dead giveaway with the pirated copies as it's a duplicate of the cover of the booklet or of some alternate image. However if you don't know what the cover of the disc looks like I can see people getting tricked since it happens so often.

i mean the characters on the cover have jaggies like they blew the picture up.

i bought it from some one on here but it was only $8 and even though i got it the guy never responded after my sending the money.

There are loads of PS1, DC, GB, and FC boots out there. Most of the time they aren't trying to fool anybody other than the copyright holder. I do have some NGCD boots that I bought inadvertantly recently.

In Asia, at least, nobody's really trying to pass a boot off as authentic -- that's not just in games, that's in purses, or clothes, or music... THe sellers are ususally pretty honest about their dishonesty. :)
