May I suggest "Digital Press Dead Pool 2006?" My money's on Abe Vigoda and Kamino...

I have two:
1) A "general film" topic: Not just sci-fi (although that genre will probably dominate to some extent), but comedy, horror, romance, oldies, all of it.
2) Food & Drink: Recipes, restaurant reviews, that sort of thing. It might not get as much activitiy as a Music or Film topic, but it will definitely be an original idea. And if it flops, then invoke the "du jour" and just change it to something else.
Either way, "Du Jour" is long overdue for a change of scenery.

I'll second the film idea. Plenty of great films on the way this summer, so the timing would be perfect.

If you make it movies, maybe you should make it a non-Sci-Fi movie forum...force people to talk about different kinds of movies for a change.

How About one Dedicated to the Next Generation of Consoles (PS3, X360, Wii).
Oh God. Please don't do that. Modern Gaming has pleanty of room for our Next Gen polls and arguments based on speculation. There just isn't enough information being released right now. I guess I spend most of my time in the Classic section so I may be missing a lot of the interesting action but my vote is a hefty "No"

Lloyd: What the soup do jour?
Waitress: The soup of the day.
Lloyd: Sounds good, Ill have that!
LOL sorry that quote kills me, and every time I hear anything "du jour" I think of it...
Ok, back on topic, I also go for the food/drink idea... Lots to be discussed there

I would very much like to see a food and drink forum also.
A place to post recipies and talk about food in general.
That would be great :)

A food and drink forum would be great. I think thats a great idea. It won't last as long as the music forum, then we could do the film forum.

It wouldn't be fair to exclude sci-fi, so it would fall on all-genre cinephiles like you to steer topics towards non sci-fi films. I think it could work.

If we don't do movies now, maybe you should save that one until the Christmas movie season. If you wanted to change it again around September, maybe you could do one for the Fall TV season at that time.

I think most classic gamers like The Simpsons, Family Guy and Futurama. That might be a good one.
Or, maybe just The Simpsons, but that might be too narrow.
Or, maybe just Cartoons, but that might be too broad.

Classic computing's not a bad idea either. A lot of people here either grew into (or out from) classic gaming via the old machines. There are a lot of parallel themes between the two including hardware mods and homebrewed programming, but retrocomputing still seems to be somewhat apart from the general discussions in DP that center on those topics.
Additionally the last two "du jour" topics have been centered around popular forms of entertainment: Science Fiction and Music. Doing movies as a topic would, in a sense, be more of the same thing, or at least bring up the same sorts of threads: "What's your favorite Spielberg film other than Jurassic Park?" Ehh...maybe it's time for something really different.

I agree with Pant on this one. Whatever the new forum du jour is, I would like to see it not be more "popular forms of entertainment." I was disinterested in the last two forums for the same reason, and if it is films this time then I will be disinterested again. Let's talk about something that we don't already talk about. If not classic computing, then food and drink would be kinda cool. We could swap recipes and talk about wierd kinds of food and whatnot.

You bastard! How dare you pick Kamino. That's like picking Lance Armstrong to win the Tour de France. If he's competing you know i'll happen.
The only difference is that Armstrong has retired. Kamino's retirment will cause you to win the pool.

I'm going with 2 of the ideas already listed:
#1) Computers
#2) Movies
It's a cool idea to switch from one medium to another like Music -> Movies. Also a computers forum would be nice for members to talk about different system setups, operating systems, latest technology, ect. The food idea is alright but don't think it'll last long unless you get a bunch of gamers posting about their nifty snack creations.

I've always thought a (permanent) combination music/movie forum would be nice to have around here, since we seem to have some very knowledgeable folks in those subjects here at DP. Maybe even lump TV in with the both of them for good measure.
Other than that, and this was mentioned not long ago, maybe a short revival of the Kingdom Arts forum that used to be around a while back. We've got lots of folks into making art around here (be it game-related or not) and it's usually pretty cool to see.

I would like a film forum, for films of all era and genre
How about a Cartoon/Anime forum, or perhaps a general TV forum
Heres something different, how about a forum where you can ONLY post polls of all sorts (just not directly related to gaming maybe?) currently this is my top pick :)

NOOOOOOO!!!!!! DON'T TAKE THE MUSIC FORUM AWAY!!!
It's just hitting its stride now, and it's not my fault that it was left up too long and I got so used to it. :P Can't we keep it? Please please ohplease? Look at the numbers, it has a comparable amount of topics compared to some of the other Specialty Forums that have been up there for years. The 12 Days of Christmas forum is still up, for heaven's sake, why can't the music forum stay? I love it!! And there's nowhere near as much arguing or locking or anything like that. Please don't take it away because it will make me cry. :( Captain Yashiro, please come back and help me!! :D
I can't believe no one else wants to save it. No one? :hmm:

I'd like to keep it, but I dont see that happening. If we could keep it in with the other 'specialty' forums, I'd love it, but those all pretty much relate to gaming, and throwing a music one in there might be out of suit. I like talking about music with the most of you because there isn't any bickering and yelling, and I'm pretty sure there are less than a dozen locked topics in that forum.
I'd like to keep it (in addition to a new de jour), so if the powers at be would allow it, please do so.

I think that a sports forum is a really good idea, but not during the summer, when the only major league sport being played is baseball. It would be cool if a sports forum was created for the fall/winter, at the end of baseball and the beginning of basketball, hockey, and football.
I suggested classic computing because I know we talked about it a few months ago, and I have noticed several DOS box threads being created lately. Plus I am always looking for an excuse to talk about Apple ][ and DOS stuff.

As a proud Apple IIe owner I'd like to see a classic computing forum, after all this a videogame forum right?
Besides It'll give PDF a chance to show off his goodies :-P
I wouldn't mind one for Movies/TV, but I also wouldn't mind just keeping the Music forum.
How about one for general entertainment? It could include everything from TV to Music, instead of just having one specific forum dedicatd for it.

So, in conclusion, moviesmoviesmovies.
