I'm trying to come up with a list of console games that are played using a microphone. I'm especially interested in those that included a microphone or headset in the packaging.

The voice recognition games I'm aware of are....

Socom Navy Seals - PS2: The first Socom I purchased included a headset in the box. I came away with a great deal of respect for how well voice recognition was implemented in the game. I can't even begin to count the number of times I've been asked to repeat my selection over the phone in some companies automated voice recognition customer service menu, but Socom worked pretty flawlessly. I was really suprised by that and decided to investigate how many other games included voice recognition as a feature and see how well they implemented it.

Seaman - Dreamcast: It came with a microphone and you talked to a fish, correct?

Alien Front Online - Dreamcast: I know it was packaged with a microphone. Was that only used to chat online with?

Hey You Pikachu - N64: Not sure what you did with the microphone in this game, but one was included in the packaging.

Odama - Gamecube: Haven't had a chance to buy/play this yet, but I think you can issue commands with an included microphone.

Mario Party 6&7 - Gamecube: I know there's a microphone in the packaging. Don't know what it's used for.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Nintendo DS: I don't know anything about the DS. Is the microphone part of the system itself or is it sold seperately with the games? Anybody know what the microphone does in this game?

Lifeline - PS2: Was a microphone/headset ever part of it's packaging?

Karaoke Revolution's/Party - PS2/Xbox/Cube: Do you simply use the microphone to sing into or does it also act as a voice controller of some sort?

I'm kinda suprised I can't think of a single PlayStation game that came with a microphone.

Are there any others? Thanks.

You can yell "OBJECTION!" can't you?

ANd if you're including DS games then you have to include Nintendogs.

I'm sure there are plenty more DS games but Feel the Magic and Super Princess Peach(minigames) use it.

Takeshi no Chousenjou on the Famicom is another one. It used the controller's built in mic.

Do any DS games actually use the mic for voice recognition, though? I only got my DS this weekend and while Feel The Magic and New Super Mario Bros. both have minigames that use the mic, they're not voice recognition, just volume recognition.

Alien Front Online on the Dreamcast only used the mic for chatting, as you said. Also, while it didn't ocme with a mic, Mr. Driller on the Dreamcast works with the mic in a way similar to the DS games I've played so far. If you have the mic plugged in and make any sort of loud noise (whether that's yelling "DRILL!" or just yelping or blowing into the mic), Mr. Driller will drill.

Hey You, Pikachu on the N64 allows you to interact with Pikachu on a really simplstic level through the mic. Give orders, ask questions and prompt certain events and stuff. It's not nearly as immersive as Seaman, though both games came out around the same time.

Phoenix Wright uses the mic to yell "Hold it!" and "Objection!" instead of pressing the touch screen button. The mario parties have a couple of microphone minigames, but thats about it.

And to the above, phoenix wright, brain age and nintendogs have actual voice recognition.

There are quite a few DS titles which while they don't strictly recognise voices or patterns, they do recognise when someone is speaking/blowing into the mic.

Echelon for the C64 used the "Lip Stik" controller. Finally picked one up after many many years of searching (at the DP store no less). Think I'll give that one a test drive tomorrow. 8-)

Nintendogs revolves around you conditioning your pups to respond to voice commands. Game's all about voice recognition.
