Just procured a used genesis arcade stick (the official one). I thought about dripping some oil down the side of the buttons and the base of the stick to take some of the stiffness and squeekiness out. Is this wise? Or maybe I can unscrew the shell open and grease things up from the inside?

You shouldn't ever have to grease anything in there. If you are getting squeakiness it is probably dirt buildup form years of use/abuse. Best way to clean it is to open it up, remove all the plastic parts (NOT the electronics), and wash them with a mild detergent (dish soap or some such thing). Just be sure when you crack it open, you know how it goes back together. Nothing sucks more than having something that mostly works biting the big cahuna because you forgot/don't know/can't figure out how to put it back together. But if you're a little bit mechanically inclined, you'll be ok. (Another tip is to take pics as you go, that way you are sure). Good luck!

Sounds good. I'll try that.
