I have recently acquired an odyssey 2 and have found the player 1 controller wont recognize down. Now the controllers are hardwired into the system, what a horrible
idea that was, or else i'd just get a new controller. does anyone out there know how i can fix my problem? asside from getting another odyssey 2 system. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks,
Tom

In continuing to test out odyssey 2 games i have found that the player 2 controller, although showing less ware also will not recognise down. Nothing in any game so far will move down the screen. up, right, left, but no down!!

Replacement controllers, even for the hardwired version of the O2, occasionally turn up on eBay, if you're willing to do a little bit of disassembly and reassembly.

That's strange. Neither of them will recognize down. Before you try opening one of the controllers and seeing how things look in there.
If the problem's obvious, well, that's it.
If it isn't, try closing the down circuit yourself with a piece of wire or something. Just turn on your system with the controller wide open, get to a point where pressing down will actually do something, and bridge the gap. If that doesn't work, then there may be a problem with the decoder chip in the console.
And if there isn't a decoder chip in the console (meaning controllers operate like Neo Geo joysticks), then wait for somebody who's more familiar with the Odyssey 2.
Also, make sure you have games that actually use down. I know it's absurd, but just make sure so you can avoid unnecessary bellyaching.
