I think I like the N64 quite a bit, easy to find, don't mind if they are cart only, lots of great hits from Nintendo and Rare among others!

SNES is cool, I just don't find too many, hopefully that will change soon.

SNES, the other classics are fun, but I'd rather collect for this one.

Genesis and Saturn (JPN). Good stuff! :D

Genesis. Tons of great games, a good combination of commons and rares, most games are cheap, pretty easy to get them complete, systems are common and cheap, lots of cheap accessories, etc. I don't like SNES as much because the games are almost always cart-only (I've completely given up on trying for complete SNES games) and generally more expensive, and IMO it doesn't have quite as many good games.

I don't collect to get every game for a system, or every game by a certain company, or anything like that. I only collect games that I actually like. Currently I have 121 such games for Genesis, and I still have quite a ways to go.

Second favorite would probably be Saturn. Most games are pretty cheap (the expensive games get all the attention, but there's really not that many of them), and it's fun seeking out the obscure gems.

Well looky here, it's Jibba being his usual trolling self. What a surprise.

How about instead of being an asshat you link us to the existing topic? Since there's at least 30,172 matches to sift through when you search for "favorite system"

That right there should tell you something.

There's 45 seconds of my life that I will never get back. I am getting really tired of people using the search engine as an excuse. If you actually spend 30 seconds trying to narrow down the results and then scan through the first page of thread titles, you will find what you need. And for the record, I got 118 matches, not 30k.

Playstation.

Too bad i've found just about every game i've ever wanted for it. 2 or 3 more RPGs and then some random games left.

The SNES is my favorite system of all time, so it's the one I own the most games for (my current count is 137 games)

I've got most of the games I want for it, though. The only games I don't have now that I really want are Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Secret Of Mana, Kirby's Dream Course, Aero Fighters, Earth Defense Force, Out Of This World, Pinball Fantasies, Earthworm Jim 2, Aero The Acrobat 2, Raiden Trad, Super Nova, and Thunder Spirits. I'll probably wind up getting some other stuff if it's cheap enough, though.

It was decided a couple months ago after the tragic locking of a best of NES thread that we would allow repeats of threads that are a year or more old. And the topic is generating responses to boot, so we'll leave this one open. I'm not particularly fond of repeats either but when a good question already asked is brought up by a new user , there are better ways to deal with it then beating him or her over the head with search.

I agree that there is. I was just trying to be a bit "cheeky", and apparently some people took it the wrong way.

Anyway, both of the (unlocked) threads that I linked to have been active recently, one being last posted in this month, and the other back in May.

I always wanted one plus, with the region free CD titles it's fun system to get into imports with.

i mentioned this in one of the other threads... with thes SNES being my favorite system up untill i got into collecting, i started with that, after getting a couple of my fav games, i stopped cause it was getting too expensive, i HATE cart only games, and dont have a single one, so my snes collection, although consisting of only 8 or so games, is about 1000$.

as i started looking into other consoles of my youth and teen years, ive grown extremely fond of the genesis, PSX and gba.

genesis: had it as a kid, had a couple great games but never got into it that much, ive looked back at it now and man are there some great things on it. also i love collecting for it since even the best games dont fetch over about 60 bucks, and are easy to find complete (yay.)

PSX: in my mind its the spiritual succesor of the SNES, the RPGs (FF, BoF, Squaresoft, Enix...) the fighting games, Megaman X the list goes on and on, it seems all the best franchises other than Nintendo's migrated to the PSX and had some great games, i love the PSX. and the plethora of original gaming is amazing. games are also relatively easy to find, and ive already gotten most of the expensive ones before they got expensive, even so few games that i wanna get will cost me about 100 each.

GBA: to me, this is the rebirth of SNES, some of the best SNES games plus successors to those and a healthy dose of 2D goodness. games are easy to find sealed and relatively cheap. i see a lot of them going up in price especially for MIB/Sealed copies.

so while i love my SNES, i hate collecting for it and probably will never buy another game for it. with my list of To-Get games for my 3 fav systems to collect for depleting (i think i have about 50 games i wanna buy, all together) ill just take a break from collecting, and take some time to sit back and play some of them =]

Good question!

My favorite to collect for would be TurboGrafx16, then the Sega Saturn.

While I do love my NES and SNES, I enjoy the challenge of finding killer games on Turbo and Saturn.

I have 120 TG16 games
and 53 Saturn games

Around 30 NES games, and over 40 SNES games...

Sorry for the numbers...LOL

SNES for me. Don't really know why. Lot's of GREAT rpg's. Maybe it's because SNES is the system I grew up with.

I'm gonna go with the genesis on this one. I love the genesis, turbografx and snes all pretty equally. However with the the turbo you have to deal with ebay way too much(i think 2 of my 50 or so games were found in the wild). The snes on the other hand is easier to find games for around here but stores tend to really jack up the prices on rpg's, mega man games etc.

Genesis is awesome to collect for compared to most systems. There are tons of games around where i live and all pretty reasonably priced, many with boxes. Out of the 100 something games I own i've only gone to ebay for one (splatterhouse 3). Plus it was the system i played the most as a kid so it's got some sentimental value for me.

The GameCube is the best system to collect for in my opinion. Only about 600 games to round up, and a large number of them are great! The GameCube definitely has a better good:crap ratio than the PS2 or Xbox.

Neo Geo MVS. I love the big carts, and it's great getting them all Shockboxed with quality inserts. At least it was.... I can't actually think of any more good Neo games to get. So I suppose I'm done with it now. Hurrah, one system collection completed for me.

I'll say Megadrive and Mega CD then. Gotta love MD hardcases and crazy Japanese artwork.

NES You can go into any Flea market or pawn shop or goodwill and stumble into at least 1 game. Now that's cool.

Tough choice. I suppose if I can't say "all of them" then #1 would be the old chunky carts of Atari/Intellivision. Just something satisfying about having a nicely ordered collection of old cartridges, I think. :-) Next up would be Mega Drive/Master System, as plastic cases > cardboard ones. :-p

PC Engine would also be right up there if they were easier to find in jewel cases/I were less of a tightwad and prepared to splash out for the jewel cases.

Neo CD, baby! I'm shooting for a complete collection right now (got a ways to go, but mostly commons left). It's a small library with alot of great games.

Other than that I mostly "collect" imports. I'm buy a fair amount of Saturn, DC, and WonderSwan. I'll never go for a complete Saturn set -- tons of great games, but the Japanese set is TOO huge and so many are really expensive. Dreamcast and WonderSwan I might do someday, I got several of the more difficult and expensive Swan games (Judgement Silversword, Run=Dim), so it'd probably be relatively easy. Dreamcast has too many dating sims, but it's still a somewhat small library.

Don't know why, but going for a complete english language set of anything doesn't interest me much, unless it was something really fun like SNES....

The Dreamcast is a lot of fun to collect for. It's a great system and the late releases are always a pleasant surprise.

Playstation.....

I'd have to say I mainly collect for Saturn (US) but I pretty much buy as many games that I can find for all systems. I guess I just collect all videogames in general. The only systems i don't have are the exotic ones (unless you count 3do) and colecovision I think. But as far as Saturn goes, I like to collect for it because the games, for me, are very hard to find out in the wild....especially for a decent price. I also had saturn since i was a kid, so I guess that gives it some sentimental value. Plus I love the saturn rpgs, they just have a certain feel to them. If this were the modern gaming forum, I'd probably go with PS2 because of all the great RPGs that they have for it.

For me, it used to be the japanese PC Engine but I have now 99% of all the titles I was looking for, and the ones I'm missing are much too expensive.
I'm now really into the Super Famicom and Famicom Disk System nowadays, and they are a lot of fun to collect for.
But I personnaly works like that, I have collecting 'phases'. It all started 15 years ago with the Atari 2600 and never stopped since then.

TurboGenesis
07-24-2006, 03:41 PM
In the true aspect of "collecting", I like to collect for the Turbo Grafx/Duo. I got started in 1990 and got alot of the hard stuff out of the way when the games were still on shelves.

The other reason I chose to go for a complete collection was that it was a smaller library and few junk games like annual sports titles.

NightHawk777

I guess my favorite is the Dreamcast. But I have most of those, so I also like trying to keep current on the Xbox and PS2.

Next, I like getting PSX and Genesis games. Saturn as well, but I almost never run into these.

I also like imports for the Saturn and Dreamcast.

I grew up with a Mega Drive, so it's my favourite console. It's good to collect for because the games are generally cheap, and it's easy to find complete or boxed games. To top it off, there are lots of good games for it.

Next is the Master System for the same reasons.

The Super Nintendo has some good games, but they're usually relatively expensive, especially if they're complete.

I guess I would consider the Super NES as the system I most like to collect games for simply because it's my all-time favorite video game system. Next after the Super NES would have to be the Dreamcast, and following the Dreamcast is the PlayStation.

My favorite is the NES because its affordable. Next would be my Genesis. Cheap is good and so is the ability to find NES and Genesis games everywhere. In all actuality tho I colect for everything a good game is a good game no matter the console.

My favorite system to collect for is the Dreamcast or SMS.

Dreamcast - becasue I love pplaying the games.

SMS - Because the games are fun, and to me - finding a rare SMS game is a joyous occasion. Practiaclly most of the systems later games are scarcer than hens teeth. (well, in the US, anyway...)

When I found my complete SMS copy of Ghouls N' Ghosts, I was so happy for weeks on end.

Abman

If I had to pick one probably the Genesis. The one thing is the cases. It is real easy to find complete Genesis games mainly because a high percentage of Genesis games had plastic cases. Which don't break near as easy as the cardboard cases. Also strong plastic unlike the Dreamcast and Playstation cases. I just like my games complete. Plus the Genesis had many great games. It is not my favorite system but it is fun to collect for.

In second place I would say the NES. They are not too high in price and the NES is my favorite system of all time. Many games are not that hard to find complete either. I really enjoy collecting for it also.

Then it looks like the Atari 2600 is going to be added. I never actually played one, but I did buy one off eBay which I am waiting on. It seems like the games are very cheap loose cart. Then to my surprise complete games are most of the time around 10 bucks. Even though it will never be my favorite system most likely. It looks like it is going to be fun collecting for.

I love my Saturn #1. It's great arcade collection with mixtures of different genres makes the perfect collection item for me. The arcade stick feels fluid for near every game the system has to offer and each time I get a new game I get all happy and feels like I'm actually getting somewhere with my collecting.

Wondering away from the Saturn, currently I have just over 100 SNES and broke well over 100 GEN tities earlier this year. I am up to over 50 games with my Atari 2600, DC, NES, and a few other systems. Working on my small collection of NGPC games too, hope to get that done without too much hassle.

I'm a rare breed around here in that I don't collect. I am a gamer only. However, I buy up any game I see for systems I own. Some of them include (in no order):

Atari 2600
NES
Nintendo 64
Gameboy Color (don't have an Advance)
Atari Jaguar
3DO
Sega Saturn
Sega Dreamcast
Tiger Game.Com
Sega Game Gear
Sony Playstation 1
Nintendo Gamecube
Sega Genesis

I am probably one of the few around here who doesn't own a Super NES. I don't "collect" for that one, I just buy the good games to resell or trade on here.

I do have a standing agreement with a fellow forum member in which I offer to trade him any "decent" Genesis games I find. So I don't hold onto too many of those.

3DO.. no seriously.. 3DO.

3DO.
Mostly because it's "easy" to collect for -- the rare games, with a couple of exceptions, don't go for much money, and having worked at Panasonic I already have a decent stash of rarities. It was my first system over 16Bit and was also my first CD-ROM based system, so it has that nostalgia value to me. Most of the games are crap, though.

I have refrained from posting in this thread thus far because I could never think of an answer. I still cannot think of what system I like to collect for the most. I really think I like collecting for different consoles because of different reasons (where some consoles I might like collecting for more than one reason). Those being:

Library Size - A system that only has a select number of games for it is easy to finish and is rewarding very quickly
Virtual Boy
Channel F
Sega 32X

Relative ease to find the games
NES
SNES
N64

Relative ease to find games in their boxes - I just love the way a complete boxed collection looks on my shelves
SMS
Sega 32X
N64

NostalgiaGrowing up playing a console for years makes it really fun to collect for in the future
NES
SNES

TurboGrafx-16/CD/Duo, and when I have the money Saturn.

Small libraries with incredible good-to-bad games ratios, so you can enjoy playing your game and not just having it.

Genesis/Megadrive for all the great action games (especially the shmups!), and PS1 for all the weird, strange, often absolutely awful games that you have to wonder how they even got made.

You have to be into bad games to collect for the PS1. :D

The Megadrive is the best system to collect for,as others have said it's pretty easy to get most games complete for it and at pretty good prices too.
There is also a huuuge amount of quality games covering all genres.
There's a choice of 2 consoles (the Megadrive 1 will always be the best) didn't really like the mark 2 version.
Plus it'll play US Genesis games without the need for a converter,it's just a shame that the Genesis box-art was pretty much always awful!!
Plus lets not forget the added bonus of the Sega Mega CD and the 32X...ok so the 32X was crap, but it's an option.

I used to have a small collection of SNES games but i got fed-up of the boxes always being in a sorry state and the prices got daft sometimes...i mean why would anyone pay £20+ for Final Fight when you can have the superior Final Fight CD on the MegaCD?

Thats a tough one. I would have to say Genesis and then NES. When ever I shop for games for any of my systems I always come back with at least one Genesis game. As with most of you its because its the system I cherished most in my youth. :D

Although SNES is my favorite system, the one's I enjoy collecting are the Sega Systems. It's fun looking for Genesis games, as there are so many good games, and I did not have Genesis as a kid so I never know if a game is decent or not so I buy it anyways and experiment, while on the SNES and NES I'm well aware of which are the good games and which should be avoided which is a little boring. I also enjoy collecting my beloved Dreamcast which should be my first complete collection in less than a years time I'm thinking, I just enjoy that one as I wanted a complete collection and it's easy to find, always complete and has a relatively small amount of games and the DC is probably the best system ever as far as general game quality goes.

Lately mine has been the Sega CD. I like those strange little off shoot systems that never really caught on. Plus games are still fairly cheap and there weren't a lot of games for it so it'll be easier to complete a collection (which I've never done for any system yet).

I just enjoy buying games for it. The prices are cheap and they aren't too hard to find.

After I'm done collecting for the NES I'll probably start collecting N64 or Dreamcast games.

SNES is way fun to collect, with all the rpg's, classic beat 'em ups and ground-breaking titles. The NES is great, too because game companies weren't as uptight about money and game liscenses. You can find some really quirky pirate carts for the NES if you look hard enough. Genesis would have to be the runner-up though, just because SNES prices are so damn high (60 @@#$$ bucks for Chronotrigger? Please.) and genesis games are easy to come by for a few bucks, plus I see much more genesis games CIB for less $$$. The Saturn and Dreamcast also get mention because of their "off the beaten path" games and fun titles. Plus, people avoided Dreamcast like the plague when it tanked so picking up GREAT titles for under 8 bucks is easy.

My favorite systems to collect for are Snes, Genesis, and Nes. If I had to pick my favorite, it would probably be the Snes since I grew up with it and that it was the first game system I ever bought on my own.

I'm not really a collector, but the current generation makes more sense....DVD package is small and contains everything inside it!

Two favorites:

1) Atari 2600 - My first and oldest gaming love: 25 years I've been playing this thing. In 11 active years of collecting I have patiently and inexpenisively amassed about 285 carts for the thing. Not the most, probably not even half, but still a good sized number. It's one of the few systems for which I collect indiscriminately. Nothing makes my day quite as satisfying as stumbling on even one 2600 cart that I don't yet have.

2) Virtual Boy - Small library but completely obtainable. I'm three titles away from a complete U.S. collection. I sold off all my NES and SNES stuff this year but decided to keep the VB because it's such a unique system. I'm glad I did. I regard the VB as the Vectrex of the 1990's.

The GameCube is the best system to collect for in my opinion. Only about 600 games to round up, and a large number of them are great! The GameCube definitely has a better good:crap ratio than the PS2 or Xbox.

Actually Dreamcast has even better good:crap ratio, and there're only 247 to complete it, by far my fav system to collect.

Of the 3 current systems, I agree, GC is the one to collect, I have 100 sealed Gamecube games sitting here with me and I've not decided what to do with them yet.

My favorite is the Xbox becuase of the way the green cases look and it was the only current gen system that really got me hooked on its games.

Neo Geo MVS. No other system is worth buying games for. I don't really have any problem pirating games for other systems, but Neo Geo, I have to get the carts. At the moment I have 24 or so, but there will be more, believe that. Its a bitch collecting MVS games because there are SO MANY bootlegs out there. I don't go for complete kits because that would be near impossible. I buy the games to play them, not to shelf them, the collection is the result of that.

I also like PC Engine stuff and I will buy those hu's.
