View Full Version : Which long-forgotten game would you like to see a sequel to?

I had this idea while on my toilet(I don't know why but all great ideas come from a shit): Which long forgotten game would you like to see a sequel to? By long forgotten, I mean a game that either
A. Had only one entry(i.e. NiGHTS)
B. Was a series at one time but isn't anymore(i.e. Gex, Bubsy)
Here are my top five:
1. NiGHTS Into Dreams
2. Gex
3. Bonk's Adventure
4. Kid Icarus
5. Conker(a sequel, NOT A SHITTY XBOX REMAKE!!)

You hit it on the head with Bubsy. I'd like to see them go back with the 2D style and the great platforming.

And a nother Zelda game that uses the same style of gameplay as Zelda II: Adv of Link. Screw the haters.

Yeah, I'm with you there.

How about Super Dodge Ball as well? How can it be 2006 and we still don't have a great video dodge ball game since SDB?

I would love to see another sequal to the Rocket Knight Adventures series. There was only two games in the series and I have yet to play the second one. But Rocket Night Adventures was an amazing game. And I would love it to have basic 2-D platforming like the first one. But include 3-D jet pack segments.
Other then that I would love to see another Star Tropics games. Zoda's Revenge was only okay and left me begging for more.
Then there is Comix Zone. The game was freakin' excellent and it desearves a second game. It they could nail the comic book image that the first did so well in complete 3-D it would be an amazing blast.

NiGHTs into Dreams and Burning Rangers are two Sega games that deserve quality sequels, or at least updated versions of the originals.
Blazing Star on the Neo Geo certainly deserved s sequel. There were rumours of a Last Blade 3, pity that one never showed up too.
And certainly there were rumours of a Metal Slug 3rd Mission for the NGPC. If only....

I think NiGHTs definately needs a sequel, as well as Super Mario RPG. By that I mean the game needs a sequel in a smilar style as the original and none of the paper mario stuff. (I just couldn't get into them the way I did with the original).
Another series that could use a good revival is Donkey Kong Country (like DKC 1/2/3 for SNES). Some good side-scrolling DK action.

Battletoads. And Garou.
I know, Garou is technically a Fatal Fury game, but it was more of a reboot of the series than a full-fledged sequel. And there's supposed to be a prototype for the sequel somewhere, so who knows.

NiGHTS and Burning Rangers provided they're both done properly. A few more immediately spring to mind...
Wonderboy. Oh god. Wonderboy 3 (SMS) done in the style of 3D Zelda= love. That's all there is to it.
Dizzy! About time that little egg saw a bit more love. Codemasters did a new Micro Machines game- V4- and though it kinda raped my childhood Dizzy's appeal was its style. Long overdue a comeback.
Road Rash. God Road Rash 2 was fun on the Mega Drive. More please.
Eternal Champions. One of the best 16-bit fighters there was. Screw Fighting Vipers, give us some proper beat-em-up action, Sega.

1. Battletoads. Yeah, there's been plenty of sequels, but I would like to see a 3D version. Maybe using an engine like God of War.
2. Rocket Knight Adventures. Anyone who's played this understands how hardcore it is. It had two sequels, both completely different but both named Sparkster. One released for the SNES and one for the Genesis. But now I want to see a 3D remake for the Wii!
3. Final Fantasy Tactics- No, not Final Fantasy Tactics Advance... that game kind of sucked. I liked the original for the PSone. I don't care if it has the same story, I just want the gameplay.

Good to see that NiGHTs and Burning Rangers are getting plenty of love.
But there's one game that deserves a really well made sequel over all others: Skies of Arcadia.
And one game I would like to see on the Atomiswave hardware would be a sequel (of sorts) to SNK vs Capcom and Gals Fighters on the NGPC: SNK vs Capcom: Gals Fighters. Imagine all the lovely Capcom and SNK ladies from all the different games slugging it out. They really could go to town on this and make an incredible fighting game.

Yeah, like a kid chasing his radioactive frog into an underground world and riding a nuclear powered craft around to defeat an evil menace makes sense. Screw sense, the first game ruled!
I was playing WarioWare twisted the other day and one of the souvenirs I got was (I think) a little figure of Pit from Kid Icarus. Words flashed on the screen to the tune of "This is the closest you'll ever get to a Kid Icarus sequel! HA-HA!" Pretty funny. :)
But here's mine (in order of importance):
Kid Icarus
Phantasy Star (a real RPG, none of this online shit).
Alex Kidd
Double Dragon (no one-on-one Street Fighter-esque fighting games, either) Advance was pretty awesome, but I was thinking a current-gen machine.
The Guardian Legend
Faxanadu
Adventure of Link...you know, a sequel done in the same side-scrolling vein

Would love to see a UN Squadron sequel... with infiinite continues. The game was hard enough but they gave you limited continues. Ouch.
And I will only accept a Battletoads sequel if there is a level where we can brutally beat the creators of all the bike/racing levels. I'm talking massive carnage-style beatings, folks. The kind that would make a riot seem like a mere squable.

I would have to go with Panzer Dragoon Saga, another PD RPG would get plenty of love. Another 2D metroid game would make me happy. I would say more 2d action/rpg style castlevania but they are making Portrait of Ruin already. I definately agree with NiGHTS. Killer Instinct, I don't know about everyone else, but I miss the Ultra Combos. Thats all I can think of at the moment but i know there is a whole bunch of other ones I'd like to see again.

Ecco the Dolphin. In 2d. It's a shame that Appaloosa is always remembered as a raper of Contra series since they also made two of the best console adventure games ever.

Regarding Kid Icarus, Shigeru Miyamoto all but confirmed a sequel in this interview (most have probably seen this):

As far as Alex Kidd and Psycho Fox, it seems unlikely, given the comments of Reiko Kodama in this article:

I played that in arcades, great game. Sega "promised" we'd get a Dreamcast port at one point. Then later said they would not port it because it's too short.

I don't think I've played the sequel to River Raid, but of the other three, I'd think only Blaster Master had horrendous sequels. Zillion 2 may have been a big let down, but it wasn't a horrendous game IMO; I found it to be reasonably playable. Out of Zaxxon's three sequels, I wouldn't say any of them are horrendous, although the original is definitely superior.
Neo Rasa
08-25-2006, 01:55 AM
To be more specific, I was thinking of the Genesis Blaster Master 2 (which somehow I loved when I first got it, but I like it less and less the more I try to get into it) and Zaxxon's Motherbase 3000 (Zaxxon comes to 3D and.....your altitude is now a constant?!).
I actually am probably one of the few people that really likes Blasting Again on the PSX, though the consensus seems to usually be that it's terrible. Enemy Below on the GBC is a perfectly good game though it doesn't really bring anything new to the table (while changing too much to really be considered a port).
Zillion 2 I really dislike, maybe I'll get over it someday. Personally I think this one has the most potential since it was the least developed of the games I quoted. A new Zillion game (or even a Zero Mission sort of remake) made for any system would be grand.
River Raid II, if you've never played it just stay away. ;)

I know - but some deserve new sequels.
Especially Zaxxon and Zillion. Super Zaxxon was a pretty good sequel. Motherbase 3k sucked. I knew about Zillion 2, but never played it. So I can't really judge how good or bad it was. But the original was so much fun.

Have to agree that new versions of the Strike games (Desert, Soviet, etc.) would be interesting -- but then I played the sequel to one of my all-time favorite games -- Toejam & Earl -- on the Xbox and, feh, it was really soggy seconds. I'd take the Genesis platform sequel long before I'd play the newer game.
Remakes and sequels to retro classics have had a history of disappointment in the game business. Anyone recall the pitiful attempt to "update" Archon? Or all those great 2D platform games that sucked in 3D?
Rather than sequels to games like Military Madness and Herzog Zwei, why not simply play the superior games they inspired? Military Madness and Herzog Zwei invented the RTS genre but Westwood and Blizzard moved on from there.
In fact, my favorite game from the PlayStation generation, the undeservedly-forgotten Red Asphalt (Interplay) would probably be LESS fun to play if it were remade. Most truly great games manage to accomplish their magic in whatever format they are born in and later attempts to "freshen them up" seem to fall flat.
And it absolutely cracks me up that people want to see sequels to bombs like Psycho Fox. Whatever floats your boat, but did that game sell, what, six copies or something at the time of its release?
