Hi Folks!

Ever heard about 2 years ago that KaNyErO tried to port MVS roms to play on a real Neo-Geo CD system but was unsuccessful ? And only CDoty was successful to port 4 (and a half) games ?

Well now it's a reality because i finally found some time to take a crack a this and after a few attemps, i finally discovered how to port MVS roms to the NGCD, and i have to thanks to CDoty for his JoyJoy Kid port.

Since releasing ISO of MVS roms are illegal (copyright SNK playmore), i can't post any ports i've made so far (more than 20) accept for 2 homebrew games that i have authorisation from the programmer.

So here's the URL on how-to do it yourself MVS-to-CD porting:

The web site isn't finished yet but the major infos is there and with 2 (rather 3) games to downlaod and burn them to play on your Neo-Geo CD system, which they are: Columns (yes the Sega Genesis version) and Poker Night (either English or French). But be warned that those homebrew games DON'T HAVE ANY SOUNDS. The author didn't programmed any sounds for his games (not yet anyway).

So enjoy and have fun playing new gamesfor your Neo-Geo CD system! :)

Wow. That's pretty cool, man. Considering we may never see a true flash cart for the Neo (it's about as complex as making a universal one for the NES), this is the next best thing, though a bit complicated. If one could make a single program to help facilitate this and take out most of the manual work, this could be very useful. Well, for pirates, hehheh, lol. jk.

So there no limitations with this? Any Neo game can have this done?

It's only the games with a small Meg count that you'll be able to do decent conversions of. Any of the larger games would need rewriting to work with the CD format. Smaller games should be able to load most of the data required into the RAM in one initial big load, or in seperate large chunks. Big game files would need reassembling so that the required parts of data were kept, and not having huge loads. Basically, if you don't reprogram the larger games, it'll take forever to load.

Less than 100 Megs, and you're good to go. Anything over that and you're having trouble.

What about using huge dummy files like they did with dreamcast backups? It keeps the data on the outer rim to speed up the load times.

Does this work for older SNK's games like Vanuard? :image:

I like how the screenshots section is "under construction". Lame.

I remember people in the GP2X scene were doing this in order to play games in the NGCD emulator (as there wasn't an AES/MVS emulator at the time), but it's cool to see that this actually works on real hardware too. How are the load times? I assume without any programmed load screens, you just get long black pauses or something?
