View Full Version : Replace a tate monitor with a TV / Xbox?

Okay, I finally have the option of getting an arcade cabinet... it's a Super Contra with no board or marqee, I think it'd be perfect for a tate MAME cabinet. I've never owned an arcade cab outside my "home proplay arcade" (which isn't a "real" arcade cabinet), and don't know anything about arcade guts, monitors, etc.

I do know that I want to put a modded Xbox in it. (I looove modded Xboxes) Can I somehow connect one to an arcade monitor? The cabinet's in rather rough condition, and I don't know what condition the monitor's in. If it's no good, I'd rather run out and buy a TV and throw it in there than mess with getting another monitor. (I know all about the ill effects of turning a TV on it's side, I'll take my chances.) And certainly I can connect an Xbox to that, but is there anything for the TV to sit on? Don't most arcade monitors secured to the cabinet with their own brackets?

I know it's possible to get a PC working with an arcade monitor, but I've gotta go with the Xbox.

Here's the cabinet-

get an x-box to jamma adaptor then you don't have to butcher the cab if you decide to restore it or sell it on in the future.

as we all know, super contra is a class game ;)

That's funny! I'm watching that same auction! Very close to where I live. Thought about buying it, but I'm in over my head in fixing up 5 other machines :/

Just a few days ago, there was a Super Contra PCB AND marquee on two separate auctions...don't think they went for much, but I don't remember. Good luck with that!

Gee, I'd sure appreciate it if you let me have that. I used to live in Springfield and I'll pick it up when I go back home to visit.

But I'm still not sure about it. I just found it and two days isn't enough time to decide. See, I only live in a one room apartment and it'd sure take up lots of space, and that's not the best place to go about working on an arcade cabinet.

I shall look into this Xbox>JAMMA adapter.

Oh yeah, no problem...I just like watching stuff like that. I just got through gutting a Centipede a few days ago and I've been sitting here trying to figure out where to start on the restoration. I certainly don't need another cab right now! LOL

After examining my time and resources, I really don't have the facility to deal with it right now- so you can have it after all if you still want it. It's got 14 hours to go at this time.,,
