Hi,
I just bought a Magnavox Odyssey from Ebay. I have a question about the serial number of my system.
My system is a Run 1 system, with serial number 6979877. I checked online for more information about that serial number and did not find anything.
There is a good website that lists the differences between the many runs and versions of the Odyssey, but it doesnt have the serial number that my system has.
The website is this: http://www.pong-story.com/odyssey.htm#P3
Can someone please help me here? :)
Thanks.

I'm not sure I'm clear on what you're asking here...I thought the whole point of a serial number was that it identifies just one unit, not a whole product line; i.e. yours would have a different serial number than mine or anyone else's.
The only thing I could think of that might list serial numbers would be if someone started a Magnavox Odyssey owners' registry somewhere - which is kind of a cool idea, but I don't know if that's what you're looking for.

What does your system look like? Is it like the description of the original Run 1 systems on that page you gave (silver Maganvox logo on the woodgrain)?

Sorry for the delay...
I opened this topic because I just couldnt find where to classify my Odyssey system with the serial numbers that appear in that page.
I took a picture of the bottom of my Odyssey system with the serial number shown. You can see it here:

Thanks.

Yes, looking at the picture, I can see the serial number is 6979877 just like you said, and it is definitely from Run-1 and a 1TL200-BLAK model, so it is definitely an early one.
The page you linked to shows a table of each known Odyssey variant to date. Your system does not match the known variants. The very first Odyssey systems (with the silver Magnavox logo on the woodgrain) have 'Unknown' listed for the serial number in the table. Thus, it is likely that your system is one of those. I'll say it again...look at the front of your system...does it have the "Magnavox" name on the woodgrain?

That's the first thing I looked at when I got the system, hoping that it had it.
Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it. :)

Okay, then it looks like you are the owner of a new variant. :) I would definitely e-mail David Winter (the webmaster of that page) and tell him what you have.

Sent the picture last night!
I hope it is a new variant, or at least one of the very first models!!! That would be awesome!
