still phBB powered? there any software updates or modifications you can do to phBB to keep up with demand?

Why do that? You do realize that the transition is being worked on right now, right? Is it asking too much to just bear with the forums as is for the next, what?, couple of weeks? Geeze, just be patient! We're not talking months but you do know that the volume of archives to transfer is high, right?

So, I don't see the point of updating the phpbb software when the elements causing the site's crash were disabled. Would you rather have them shut down the site completely for a couple of weeks?

I will always be apart of this site as long as it is up. This site will always be my home. I look forward to the upgrades. Any word on the rarity guide being updated?

To Joe and the DP staff, long live this website!

I saw VB up earlier. Only one post, and when I tried to post, it said I was banned. I lol'd.

DP is so precious that a little temporary discomfort is no big deal in the grand scheme of things. It's the best damned reason for having internet service.

Can we have a crack team of experts, led by Slothy, watch new members and at the first pressing of SUBMIT with, "I can emulate this crap!" Sothy Squad goes into action ... takes 'em out while hard rock plays in the background and hot girls jump up and down without bras?

Hi, This post is very informative, however I would like some specific information. If someone can help me then please send me a private message. Best Regards,

What do you need to know?

Oh, so we're getting vBulletin! Wheeee!

Ok...As long as it's still free, I can go find a new Avatar once the transfer is finished!

By the way, KEEP THE MESETA! I find it useful (And I'd want to buy back my Mario icons after the transfer)

I hope the speed for edtiing posts is improved because it seemed very slow here. Before it was removed of course.

Free for you, but it did cost Joe here quite a pretty penny. Of course, he does accept donations to help soften the blow ;)

Meseta will not transfer over, but similar systems are available. Eventually, we might install one.

It is a bit of a shame to hear that our meseta counts won't be making the jump, but - you know - I think I'll live ;)

By the way, Sisko: I know you must be snowed under at the moment, but I was really just wondering how things were going with the move to VB. Do you know when you might be making the switch? I don't mean to push you, I am just curious.

Cheers.

The admin staff is kicking the tires now, and we are ironing out as many bugs as possible before releasing the general public on it :)

Is it true that the blogs won't survive the transition? Flack has said as much, but I haven't read anything definitive here. I'm perfectly fine, since I have a sister blog to mirror the one that's here on DP, but I'm still curious to know one way or another.

I'm thrilled to see that we'll be moving to a better forum system. Hopefully, this new one will be able to screen out all the spambots, which I'm sure has been a real strain on resources. We'll all be happy to see things improve.

You musta missed THIS (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=92150) stickied topic when it was up.
If you want you can post HERE (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=92196) to let the reading masses know where you've mirrored your blog so they can read on.

Yeah, I missed the boat on this whole thing. Thankfully, Flack brought me up to speed. I've already made my blog move and I've written my (presumably) final post of V-TNG. It lasted about a year, which is pretty good for a games blog.

So, here's another odd question: should we continue to post here on the message boards, or will that just add to the burden for the movers?

Continue to post, but take it easy on the edit feature (for those boards that still have it enabled). :)

So what's up with the RoD?
One evening my latest version is up, another evening I get the version before my second-last update.
Very confusing if you ask me.

This has nothing to do with the conversion. Not sure what is going on here....

Will we have to use Photobucket anymore? They use VB over on the Opel Forum and we download the pics to the Opel site. They don't need another site. Also, pics count as posts.

I don't expect DP to be as good with VB as what the Opel Forum is. They spend a lot of money and upgrade all the time. Always adding features, hardly ever down. I'd recommend checking it out if you want to see what is can do. Integrated links to tons of stuff. They just added Zoints profiles. They've got a Map that you can place a pin for yourself and see where people are in relationship to you. Tech articles, auctions, etc.

Any updates? I expected more downtime while things were changing over while in reality things have been as stable as ever here the past few weeks. When should we expect to see the change over?

Lady Jaye

Well, there's currently an issue with IMG tags that Sisko has to fix in VB. And on top of that, he's moving next weekend, so this week will be mostly spent packing.

Anyways, that's the latest heads-up we have. So, just a bit more patience, it won't be long...

It's covered in this thread but I'll tell you anyway. The option was turned off to maintain the stability of the site while we're making the change over to the new Forums. Lately, the forums have been unstable for whatever reason you want to attribute it to, there have been many explainations. It's stayed fairly stable without the majority of the forums having the edit feature.

You can't edit topics in the eBay forum.

Also, a friend of mine wants to register but he hasn't gotten his email activation link, so we're wondering if there's a problem or something. I mean, other than the forums are down, which is the generic answer to everything. :P

From the way I understood it any new user that activates an account before the upgrade will be lost and have to register again. You might want to tell him to lurk until the switch.

Anybody that changed their username, myself included, will have it revert back also. I'm hoping I can rechange mine after the switch.

I don't know about anyone else... but I'll be glad when the edit button makes a return on the new forum. I am just so utterly useless when it comes to using phpBB's tags. I am forever leaving them open, etc, and I do hate to make such silly mistakes. It looks sloppy.

As a result, I haven't been posting here as often as I would like. And that, in turn, hasn't been much fun.

So yeah, just let your friend know of when the new forum is up and running, and he'll be able to register just fine right now.

People, keep in mind that this is a transitional time, and that having some features off (mainly editing and new registrations) off is better than having no forums at all for a few weeks while Sisko completes the switch.

I wonder if the working on the forums is causing the current problem with posting. I reply to a post and that brings up a debug message. It turns out that my message does get posted, though. I get no meseta for the messages while this is going on but that's no big deal since we'll be quitting the use of meseta soon anyhow.

Same here. I usually don't mind the debug messages, but I've been trying to make a new thread with no success. My replies to other threads have been going through, though.

The latest problems are in no way related to upgrading the forums (other than the reason *WHY* we are upgrading).

We are just waiting for one guy to set some stuff up for me before we can continue with the upgrade, and thus I haven't touched it in over a week.

We didn't switch yet, Kid Ice was teasing Xizer. I can't say this for sure, but when the switch eventually does happen, there will probably be an announcement to go along with it. There will also be some noticable differences too.
