View Full Version : SNES Finger Pain?

When I play my SNES games, I hold my thumb over the Y and B button so I can hold down the Y button and B button for games like Donkey Kong Country. However, after gaming for a few minutes, the middle of my thumb (the part that hits the B button) really hurts and I need to stop playing. Anyone have a suggestion on how I can stop this from happening? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks! :D

I never have that problem...it's always my left thumb on the D-pad when playing fighting games that kills me after playing too long

I find the Capcom Pad Soldier a little more comfy. It's not good for games where you have to press the shoulder buttons and other buttons at the same time though.

A SuperAdvantage (Asciiware arcade stick) might also solve the problem by making it easy to use two fingers on the buttons, instead of a thumb spread over both.

You need to build up a gamer's thumb.

Keep playing and playing on that controller until a blister develops on your thumb, then hold a lighter under the blister and harden it into a callous.

Now you're playing power!

or just use a pad the old way and have 3 fingers covering all the fire buttons holding the controler 'upside down' if you like.

I nearly never use the pad of my thumb to hit any buttons, always the part of my thumb on the backside of the knuckle. Always been that way, in fact I can crack my thumbs every like two minutes just by bending them on their own. LOL Of course this comes from using a control liket that since the original Super Mario Bros. hold B + directional pad to run command.

Also jferio, can you please fix the huge link in your signature using this thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=79717) as reference. Thanks.

Me too. D-Pad thumb pain has been a problem for me since the introduction of the D-Pad.

Do it long enough and you get used to the pain and it goes away afterwards.

Well an option could be to get a Playstation to SNES controller adapter. Then you can use a Playstation controller and have many more options including the Analog Controller with the sticks.

Adapter 1 (http://store.gameasylum.us/snsunicoadfr.html)
Adapter 2 (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=226&products_id=3464&likref=link)

They both offer the same product at the same price. If one doesn't have it, you can check the other place.

As for you people with the D-Pad pains. There's options already for the SNES- Turbo Touch 360, Messiah Wireless, and a couple dozen Arcade/Joystick style controllers including some regular style controllers with a joystick in stead of a D-Pad.

The solution:

Back when I first got an NES, my thumbs and wrists would hurt like hell, but the NES Advantage cured all that. Not only did I feel better, but I played longer and had higher scores; the NES Advantage was played just like the joysticks I was used to at the arcade, so there was now a universal consistancy in my video gaming. I haven't used a control pad since.
