My 360's fine, but my original XboX died yesterday. :P

Went to play Ultra Bust-a-Move and the system was flashing green and orange and making a bad chugging noise. Kinda sucked.

No problems & had it since launch. I also wondered if some of the suspect systems were the Mountain Dew giveaways? They were recieved early & I know a guy who won one & his broke down right away.

360 purchased: February 2006
360 manufactured: January 2006
Red Lights of Doom: July 2006

I sent it to Microsoft immediately and it has worked perfectly ever since. To this day I have no idea what the problem was. Thank God I have the 2-year warranty.

Well I kinda babied mine after learning about them shitting the bed. I have only ever played 1 game through (PREY) I had Dead Rising and it seemed to run rather warm, and I couldn't get the hang of the saving process so I traded it off anyway's. Asked for an intercooler for Christmas along with Gears of War so I hope it's up to the task.

But No, No problems yet....knock....knock

System manufactured March 2006, Purchased August 2006, I have had no problems with it that aren't easily fixed, Like turning it off and back on after getting a red light (Only one red light, It happens if you've had your system unplugged for awhile)

I've only had two other problems: Doom 3 freezing And once when I turned it on and the graphics were weird. (Wich was fixed by turning it off)

I don't have an intercooler, And I've had my 360 on for 2 day sessions a couple of times. I guess I have a really good unit.

Mine died yesterday. It was a Launch Day system, never gave any hint of any problems and never moved from its horizontal position in my entertainment system. Ever.

I was going to turn it on to play a little Oblivion last night and boom, three red lights. Smacked it around a bit, nothing. Opened it up to peek inside, since Microsoft's extended 1-year warranty expired on Nov. 22nd. Nothing I could see.

Given the choice of sending it in with $150 to get a refurbed system back vs. buying a new Core system and harvesting the Premium accessories from the first system, I went with the latter. All's well again but I am surprised and ticked off.

I'm kinda suprised by the numbers up there, I thought there would be less than 10% of users with failed systems. We'll see how it pans out.

Mine has been faithful (core) since launch day. I played the shit out of PGR3, Kameo, and PDZ at launch, then logged almost 100 hours in two weeks with Obilivion, and it sat idle until gears of war which I'm still working my way through (halfway through Act 4). No issues at all.

I won mine through the everytenminutes.com contest through pepsi. Not a problem yet. I have had mine since November 19th, and the system is going strong. Although the best is to come, I think that owners of the system can be happy with choosing the 360 either now or the future. This next year looks like to be a very, very, good year.

Wow, still at a ~30% failure rate.

I'm not jumping on the "OMG XBOXEZ R TEH CRAP!!!1" bandwagon, but the numbers are definitely higher than average, even amongst a crowd that probably takes better care of their investment than the average joe.

Mine's still getting ebayed when it comes back or going to GS. WAY too much trouble spent on something that's supposed to be "fun." Having to spend hours on the phone with MS reps treating me like a software pirate while trying to get my DLC back is no fun at all. I still have plenty of gamecube games that need playing, so... *shrug* ...Though they do look like poo on my HDTV.

Never had any major probs yet. One DRE error, one or two glitches and freezes when playing Oblivion...nothing else.

Mr.Bitter
02-05-2007, 05:18 PM
I had zero issues between January of last year, when I bought it, and early December. I was downloading some Oblivion stuff, and did a system update which killed my system.

They had to send a replacement, which scratched my brand new Gears of War the first time I played it. I'm hoping it was a one time thing and it keeps working, but Xbox is starting to loose me if anything else goes wrong.

dethink
02-05-2007, 05:24 PM
I'm not even counting DRE's...while they happened, the only persistent one was in Dead Rising. Every time I'd try to enter the Crisp's Home Store or whatever at a certain point in the game, the game would give me a DRE.

Others were random...Ridge Racer, Oblivion, etc.

Mine was also bought 1 month after release, on Dec 15th. For those who talk about 30% return or bad systems, this is hardly accurate I bet, not when there are less than 60 votes. Margin of error would be quite high for a poll like this.

eternalblue81

Have had my 360 since slightly before launch from the Pepsi Win Every Ten Minutes Contest. After a couple months or so, randomly would get red lights, but it always started up fine after being reset, so I ignored it. Died around November 05. Didn't think it was in warranty yet, so didn't call Xbox support til recently. Don't really want to pay $139 for a refurbed system that might just crap out again, so I'm hoping to eventually get a deal on a Core system and transfer my harddrive to it.

You're right, this poll isn't the most accurate thing but it can at least give us an idea out of the people that visit this site. But to have3 30% out of 60 people still doesn't seem too good. Plus out of the 30%, 9% needed multiple fixes.

and not everyone has owned their 360 for the same amount of time. Either way, doesn't reflect too greatly on the product when so many people have had problem with it after only a few months of it being released.

your right, even though not accurate possibly, still not a good ratio for people on this site and people shouldn't have to go through the hassle they do with a new item which isn't a cheap purchase for many. when I think of it, I know 3 people personally (neibours or co-workers) other than myself who have the system, and 1 has had to return.... there is the 30 ish percent ratio again.

The dvd drive is fucking way too loud. two of my friends have 360's and neither of them are anywhere near as loud. its really annoying

I've gotten red lights before, but its been cured by just restarting the system.

Also, sometimes Oblivion load screens are painfully long. Dunno if my system is on the verge of dying, but I've got nearly a year to find out.

I am on console number 4.

System #1) Bad hard dirve. I would get write errors at checkpoints in Call of Duty 2. Returned it after a brief 28 hours of ownership.

System #2) Purchased 8 months later. I figured I would give MS a chance to iron out some bugs. Froze consistantly after 20 minutes of play. It never lasted longer than 30 minutes. The system was kept in an open area with lots of air to circulate.

System #3) Replaced system #2 right away. This system would randomly stop reading discs on 3 seperate mint games. Back to EB for you.

System #4) Replaced system #3 right away this time with the Holiday Pack that came with GRAW and Live Arcade Unplugged. This has been a great unit that made it through 3 hour sessions of Gears without a hitch.

Update..

My 360 is still running smooth, And I leave it on for six to ten hours every day. It rarely freezes, Sometimes I have to turn it on and off before I get a picture, But then I leave it unplugged when it isn't in use, So that may answer that. I also get one red light occasionally, But that is nothing that turning it on and off can't fix. (One red light doesn't mean anything, Really) Sometimes the disk tray won't open, But I just try it again and it'll open (It may be my 360 faceplate, I have the gameface accessory) I've also got a few "Please insert into an xbox 360 console" Messages, Wich is stupid, But that rarely happens.

But my 360 runs fantastic, Most of the stuff listed above doesn't happen very often.

Neb
06-22-2007, 08:41 PM
I picked up mine on launch day, but it still hasn't had any major problems. I think it may have had a couple disc read errors over its life, but nothing that a quick open and close of the tray doesn't fix. The red ring popped up a few times too… but that only happened when the video output cable was loose (or that one time I was playing it when a CRAZY brownout happened).

The thing monstered my Quake 4 disc when it tipped from a standing position, though. I guess that’s what I get for standing it up on the floor… right next to my foot… with wires going across in front of my legs. I can’t start a new campaign, but it looks like I can play it from my early save state and enter any multiplayer map I want. I might be wrong though… I haven’t really tried it since then.

I've had my system for a little over a year now and no probs. :) I've had a few freezes but that usually only happens in online F.E.A.R. deathmatches due to lag with alot of people in a match. Other then that no real problems at all. :)

My 360 died on June 10th, 2007.

it all started with Gears of War, one of the new update patches came out around last week, June 6th, I got it on Wednesday night which, caused it to freeze. So, Sunday the 10th..I got King Kong for 360. It ask me for another update patch. bam. It froze again. I call Mircosoft.

The guy over the phone tells me to hit this on the controller when in Memory menu. X X...LB..RB...XX..
"This is will fix your Harddrive, will you continue?" pops up.
okay, sounds easy...I accept the prompt.
so he tells me to load a game that gives me problems, I pick Gears of War. The 360 asked me for ANOTHER update patch and the guy on the phone tells me, "Deny it"

It freezes again. so I take out the game manually by shutting it down, turn it back on and then open the tray...
He says, "remove the Harddrive and start up a game without it"...
I boot up again...and you hear *BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP* froze right at the 360 logo orb/sphere..

Sadly, she was only 7 days away from her birthday...Manufactor date was June 17th, 2006...(thank god for that 1 year warranty..I came close to the deadline lol)

My poor baby...I named her "Big Bertha Betty"...she was a good girl...*tears*

I got the box (Coffin more like it) on the 14th...they got it on the 18th.

Here it is, Friday night the 22nd, the only e-mail I have recieved since then, is the one telling me they have recieved my Xbox 360 on Monday the 18th.

My question is, how long does this take? I'm going crazy without my 360 :(

Mine went out on the 4th and I got on 6/20. The frustrating part is when they don't let you know it has been shipped. I call support on the 20th and they told me they were still working on it. So I leave and come home then I see a ups sticker telling me it is the second attempt. I call ups and arrange to pick it up after hours at the depot. After 3 attempts they send it back.

Mine was a launch box had a born on date of 10/14/05 I received a refurb dated 5/23/06.

Initially I was bummed because I waited overnight for the launch but hey I get another year warranty so alls good. One thing I noticed the new unit is quieter and it is not so hot to the touch.

Only system that ever died on my was my fat PS2, and I think that was mostly my fault. I have 3 original xboxes (LEs, I like the hardware) and a 360 that I've had for 9 months, no problems.

Only other system of mine that doesn't work is a Neo CD toploader that got completely pulverized in shipping from Japan (shipped it from myself to myself, and I packed it well). USPS told me i'd have to file the insurance claim with Japan Post, which would be difficult since i was in Houston. Not pertinent to the topic at all, but I'm still pissed about it. :)

I bought a 3 year warranty at Target for around $20 with my 360, totally worth it. The only system I've had big problems with is the original Xbox. One overheated and the other I fucked up hacking.

I had problems with my PS2 (purchased a few months after launch) which somehow corrected itself, and of course my NES would blink me to death.

Hardcore gamers who buy multiple systems are bound to encounter a broken system or two in their lifetime. I baby my systems so it's extra frustrating as I'm sure is the case with everyone on this board when their system fails.

I originallly voted 'nope, no problems', but mine died in May (bought in November 2006). After arguing a bit with the tech support guy (he claims it was a 'power' issue - it needed all 20A on my power circuit so it should be the only thing plugged in), I send it back. It took almost 2 weeks just to receive the coffin, and about 2 weeks after that to get it back. So far, so good.
