So today while shopping around I found what is quite obviously a pirate cart of Legend Of Kage for the NES. I've never really been one to buy pirated carts before, but I figured that it was basically a throw in with a few other games I was buying. Anyways, as I got home and took a better look at it, I noticed first of all that the label has (c)Taito Corp. on the front of it, kinda struck me as odd, but I figured it was just something that piraters did. And then I opened it up to clean it (because it wouldn't play in my top loader, you wouldn't believe how much dirt was on the pins) and much to my surprise there was a smaller chipset (like the one in famicom carts) and a converter like the ones found in Stack Up and Gyromite.

Is this a pretty common occurance with pirated cartridges? I already own like 3 Stack Ups and a couple Gyromites w/ converter, so it's not so much a useful find for me as much as it is weird. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Well, it's not *uncommon.* I've seen it enough times. Usually when a pirater wants to sell to a 72 pin market. Some parts of Asia used 60 and 72 and Brazil too. Even Canada got lots of pirates.
