My bro and I both use X-box Live with the one month free subscription and we have our own accounts. If we get the 1 year subscription, will it work for both accounts or do we have to get a 1 year subscription for each account? Thanks for reading.

Each account.

Correct. Your Xbox Live Subscription is tied to your Xbox Live Gamertag. Therefore, if you purchase an Xbox Live Gold subscription, you will have to link it to a corresponding gamertag.

That way, when you download content, gamerpics, map packs, or anything else off Xbox Live, it will be automatically linked to your gamertag.

If you get it all straightened out, hopefully we'll see you online!

Not sure what you mean by that. Content downloaded to the xbox can be accessed by multiple accounts regardless of subscription.

i think he means that once you paid for something via one account, you can get it on any other xbox by logging in as your gamertag.

i think. i do not know.

and if im wrong, does that mean that if i buy something on my xbox with my gamertag, and later my xbox dies and i get a new one, do i have to pay for the content over again?

To clarify:

Multiple gamertags on one Xbox can all access downloaded content (Xbox Live Arcade games, gamerpics, themes, etc.).

The gamertag account that originally downloaded the content can set up the same account on another Xbox and have access to all of the content.

Your gamertag/account can only be "attached" to one Xbox at a time.

Yeah, sorry if I need to clarify.

heybtbm summed it up for me.

Even if you're console 'dies' or you re-format your hard dive. Once you get a new one, you can simply log into your Xbox Live Account with the same gamertag, and re-download the content without re-paying for it.

Lets say I go over to a friends house, log into my Xbox Live account from there, download all the XBLA games I've paid for, and then leave... Do the games I download stay on my friends hard drive for him to play? Does it restrict you to saving the games on the media (HD or memory card) that the account is saved on? Does it delete the games when I delete my account from that media? I imagine Microsoft has considered this, and there's some kind of checks in there, I'm just curious to know how it works.

To download games, media, gamerpics, themes, etc. on another console, you would have to "recover your gamertag" on that particular console. So your stuff (including your Live account) would essentially be stuck on your friends console until you "recovered" your gamertag back on your own Xbox. Once you did that, all the games you downloaded to your friends console would become trial versions. Your downloaded "stuff" only can be used on one console at a time.

I should add that recovering your gamertag on another machine is not a simple thing to do. You have to go through a tedious series of typing and confirming account information. I'm sure they made it tedious for a reason.
