atari consoles question

will the 2600, the 5200 and the 7800 all play the same game cartridges? I need to replace my old woodie and was thinking about going with the most modern console if it would be compatible.

I don't own a 5200 but I do own a 7800 and I know they are backwards compatable with the 2600 carts.

The 7800 will play 2600 games. The 5200 only plays 5200 games (unless you have a 2600 adapter). The 7800 will NOT play 5200 games. Basically the 5200 is the odd man standing, even though it's my favorite system....

The 5200 has an adapter available to play 2600 cartridges, the 7800 plays 2600 & 7800 cartridges. No way to play 5200 cartridges on the 2600 or 7800 and no way to play 7800 cartridges on the 5200.
