Who else has had the freezing problem with BIONIC COMMANDO ELITE FORCES?
I have recently bought a copy, popped into my GBA, beat 2 areas, went to enter Area 3, froze. Huh. Tried new game, same.
Tried new game on Game Boy Color, was able to enter Area 3. Then tried to enter Area 4. Freeze.

The Nintendo customer rep I spoke to said it WILL NOT WORK on GBA. PERIOD. They will fix it for free, but I have to send the cartridge AND my Game Boy Color. But they are paying for shipping too.

Anyone know anything about this??? Turns out my cart is at least 8 months old. Probably much older. Did Nintendo rectify this on later productions of the cart? Also, would the game work on Super Game Boy?

The game will not work on the Super game Boy. I hadn't heard anything about it not working on the GBA, but unless you got some non-permanent yahoo, the CS rep you spoke to probably gave you the right information. Did they offer to fix the problem for you for free?

I did a little looking around on the web--it's a common problem. BE EF freezes on GBA. Does playing it first GBA affect its performance on GBC?? Anyone tech people out there?

I was disappointed to hear that it wouldn't work on GBA--DAMMIT, no backlit joy on SP :( --Nintendo does say, probably to save face, on its website, that some GB and GBC games won't work on GBA.
But YES, they are paying for everything, including shipping and repair--even having Fed Ex pick it up. I didn't have to prove warrantly or anything! I just said it was "new".
SO IF ANYONE HAS THIS PROBLEM, CALL NINTENDO!!!

P.S. I DO like the game--I'm really impressed by the animation. Rotoscoped ala Flashback. Damn impressive, considering the platform. GBC really is limited in color pallette and sound, though!! Wow. Kinda pathetic, even compared to the NES!

Good, that's what I'd have done. the FedEx thing is pretty standard for warranty repairs, and some minority issues like this one. as for the GBA compatibility thing, there are just some games that are suited to the GBC and a few (I think 9 or so out of the 1000 or so GB games) that won't play at all. To get an idea of the "slight" compatibility problems. Try playing DKC on a GBA. It's SOOO dark!

I tried this and it worked for me, try moving to different areas, and hitting an intercepted enemy before going into the next area, it does work sometimes! :-)

UPDATE: >sigh< OK, I sent the cart to Nintendo's software repair in Syracuse NY--it's actually a 3rd party electronics repair outfit, I think--they tested it and sent it back.
I don't know why I bothered with these yahoos. It's not a friggin' mechanical issue!! It's the program itself.
I tried a new game, started in Area 3, then 1 and 2, still can't enter 4 or 5, WHICH MEANS I CAN'T PROGRESS IN THE GAME. FUCK THIS SHIT. :grrr:

Nintendo really dropped the ball on this one. Great game, NO QUALITY CONTROL!! KISS MY ASS NINTENDO!! :bareass: \
WHY COULDN'T CAPCOM HAVE DONE THIS ONE??? :(

EDIT: Nintendo CANNOT repair NOR REPLACE this cart. TOO OLD. WTF??? 3 years old!

I think it's a save glitch; based on some things I've read on websites, I think you can play all the way through the game with no problems IF YOU DON'T SAVE. If you load a saved game, you will experience this glitch--on every cart? Some? Who knows. I'm going to try this--playing without saving ever. Hell--that's just like the old NES BC anyway.
This whole thing is a BIG FUCKING DISAPPOINTMENT.
