Dammit, can I ever own a working copy of Elemental Gearbolt? The one I just got didn't have a manual or original case with it, but it was only fifteen dollars in price, and it seemed to play well for a bit of a while. Buuuuut... right around the midpoint of level 3, the music started to skip. At first, I thought this was an effect in the music to make it seem creepier... but when it occured in spades throughout the last two levels, I sighed and realized that I had once again been screwed on the premises of music on the very same game I bought many years ago, only to find it had no music whatsoever, and never bothered to replace it until recently. I am paying the price for it, and I am rather cheesed off. :grumble:
Oh well... I'll hold on to it for a bit of a while, but I'll probably find a better copy of it that has all of the original components... though, I'll probably have to pay more than $15 for that. *sigh* >_<

Is this because the disc is defective or some sort of compatibility/programming bug?

My wager's with the disc... on closer examination, it appears to have some sort of sticky stuff on it. Even if I could remove that, there are more scuffles that I missed at first glance. I'd probably just be better off getting another copy of the game. Oh well... it's not a major deal. As I said, I only paid $15. I'm just confounded at the irony of selling a game because the music didn't work, and the copy I got many years later also has faulty music. It's like some sadistic joke by some higher power.

Uh, why don't you try to clean the "sticky stuff"? And possibly get the disc polished?

Yeah really, just get the game polished.

Aw, geez... is my face red. A. The disc was just somewhat dirty overall, but no scratches were noticeable, and 2. Most of the sticky stuff was in the middle. After about two minutes of wiping it down, it seems like I repaired the problem and it works fine. Thinking is not what I do well on the weekends. :embarrassed:
Still, simply because I'm a stickler when it comes to CD games, I'd like to at least have the original case and manual. I may be able to obtain the manual, but... it'll do for now. Lemme ask a question then: Has anyone sent back a game, only to have the next copy they get of it also malfunction in some way?

Wow I'm just like that.
My NTSC Elemental won't work on my PAL console with a boot disc.
And it absolutely refuses to work with an emulator.
I know my game works, because I tried it out once on a US PS2.
Life is cruel.
