My XBOX took a crap and I dont know if it can be fixed or not. When I put in a disc it wont read it and when I hit eject the tray opens but when I try to close it it refuses to close. I have to turn off the power and turn it back on to get the tray to close. Also the fan keeps running for about 15 seconds after I power it off. Any help would be appreciated.

what color are the lights when you shut off the system? Are you saying that the drive won't close on it's own, but works fine when you shut the system off?
You could try replacing the drive, but it sounds like there's something wrong with the MCPX chip. Out of curiosity, what's the manufacturing date on the system?

The mfg. date is 2002-10-09. The light doesnt change at all. It stays green but its like the whole system just freezes up and makes a low clicking noise whenever I insert a disc. I hit the eject button and the tray slides out but when I hit the button to close the tray it wont close. I have to turn it off and back on to get the tray to slide back in and again the fan keeps running for about 15 seconds after its off.

Sounds to me like the MCPX chip is damaged... It controls the power subsystem, and the fan shouldn't be running after the system shuts down.
The system isn't modded is it?

No its not modded. I am just hoping I can fix this easily because I really dont want to buy another one and lose all my saves on the HD plus I cant play all of my xbox games on my 360. If it is the MCPX chip is the system now a paperweight?

You may want to check this site, which has an image of the 3 DVD drives manufactured for the XBox. Three companies made a DVD drive, Thompson, Phillips, and Samsung, with the Samsung being the only reliable one (which is quite ironic). The earlier your system, the more likely it had one of the less reliable drives. That might not be your problem at all.
