My girlfriend was telling me that there's a pretty big flea market over in the Orlando area. I took her for the first time this weekend and she was in awe, I think I've got her hooked on treasure hunting at fleas and thrift stores, hehe.

Does anyone know if there really is one up in that area? If not, I'll do some exploration the next time I go up to visit some friends that live in the area.

Therea big flea in Orlando called Flea World, they havea really nice gamestore there. Got Knuckles Chaotix CIB for the 32x there for $8 :)

Hey guys I live in the orlando area and the hunting sucks here too. We have about two play n trade here one gets nothing and the other has really high prices like FF8 greatest hits for 35. We have some thrift stores some times they have stuff but once in a while. I got zelda 2, punch out, and Fallout for PC. We have a flea market but either it looks like shit or they over charge like 50 for a nes

$50 for an NES system isn't horribly overpriced. The normal price is about $30, so $50 is still within reason. A pawn shop near my parents' house has about 5 of them for the same price. But yeah, flea markets are a great place to find old games, but a horrible place to buy old stuff.

However, I'm sure you guys have good finds in Orlando. I met someone an another forum from Orlando and he said he found Game and Watch systems at a Play N Trade there.

Oh, and Penguin, I didn't know there was anyone from Fort Myers here. It's a damn shame what happened to the game stores at Fleamasters, isn't it? There is a place there that has a Colecovision with a ton of games for $50 total though. No output cables or power cord though x_x

Mario World moved actually. I'm friends with the lady that runs the place and have gotten quite a bit of rare games from her. Shes located at the Flamingo Island Flea Market in Naples now, so shes a little further south, she just moved all her inventory over there.

Which place had the Coleco, I was there today and diddn't see it. I need a replacement my system isn't working.

I forgot what the place is called. It was a place in the Grand Pavilion (small place) that had a bunch of NES systems in boxes underneath tables.
May have been an Intellivision though, I'm none too smart about systems made between 2600 and NES.

Mario World is in Naples now? I'm from Naples so I go there all the time. The finds in Naples rock... paid pocket money for some really rare stuff a few times. Have you ever informed the lady that her prices are highly unreasonable?

What is there for video games at Fleamasters now, other than the aforementioned place?

Anyway, I'm moving my sister up to Tampa tomorrow and am going to try and find some places while I'm there. Any suggestions?

I live in the Tampa area and I can tell you that you will find nothing here. The stores are all gamestop or derivatives, the flea markets are extremely overpriced and the garage sales are mediocre at best. Save your money and try to look at little Podunk towns along the way. They will most likely have much better stuff than Tampa, sorry...

For Play N Trade, do a zip code search. Play N Trade is the easiest place to find classic games, and sometimes they have relatively rare stuff too.

For yellow pages, search pawn shop or thrift store and also do a zip code search. Classic games are findable in these places, but not guaranteed.

Keep in mind to be persistant because a store can have nothing one time and then have a ton of great games the next time.

To everyone else: When are we going to decide on a meeting spot? I've never met a fellow collector :crying:

Speaking of bare spots, be glad we live in a relatively saturated area. I just went to the keys with my bro and dad this weekend and didn't see a single place that might have classic games except for one salvation army store. Didn't go in though.

I'm in Fort Myers as well, born & raised lol. I didn't know Mario World moved... The guy who runs that place is a huge douche and his stuff is terribly overpriced.

Come to think of it, is anything left here? Silver Platter, ABCD's, Replay (think that's what it was called, whatever CD Warehouse turned into) and everything else I can think of other than thrifts and flea markets are gone. I haven't purchased a retro item in about two years and am actually considering selling some stuff off anyway for financial reasons. :(

Sucks, because driving around and the proverbial thrill of the hunt was a great way to spend a day.

Im in Florida as well,I live in Brandon, its real close to Tampa.

I really don't do to much game shopping around here,I go to my local Goodwill every now and then.Last time I was there they had a bunch of PS1 consoles,a couple a Sega Genesis, and some Nintendo's.There prices were not to bad,20 bucks for a Nintendo,10 or 15 for a Genesis and 15 to 20 for a PS1.Now there game selection is pretty bad, nothing really worth getting.

I still need to stop by a play n trade and see what there prices are on Snes games but for the most stick to online when I buy games.

Yea I miss Silver Platter and ABCD's. Only places to get lucky at at the Play N' Trades in Cape Coral and Naples, the occasional thrift store ad the flea markets. Craigslist has stuff every once in a while. Have you checked out Rainbow Records in Cape? I think they used to carry old games but I havent been there in ages.

Just got back from the Play N Trade on Miramar Parkway and SW 145th and I have to say it was quite the interesting visit.I had originally wanted to stop by the one in Miami, but this wasn't too far away from where my friend works, so I decided to just go there after I dropped him off. I walk in and there's a dispute going on over the RROD and YLOD that I somehow got mixed up in. Good thing was it wasn't like an argument that you'd hear in Gamestop, since everyone seemed to have their own valid points, but there was still the unavoidable sense of fanboyism in the air. Overall it seemed to be a very laid back place and I wouldn't mind stopping by there every once in a while to just talk to the employees.

Their classic games seemed to be decently priced, they certainly aren't thrift store prices, but they're decent enough when compared to E-bay prices. I picked up Castlevania III and Donkey Kong Country for $9 each, again certainly not the cheapest, but there's really no where else to find Classic games around here anymore.

Careful buying from that guy...while he does have a lot of stock and interesting items (and I passed on that Knuckles Chaotix...haven't been back since, so congrats), he also gives very unreasonable tradeback credit and pirates his DVDs and some of his games. I've seen him give someone trade credit of $2 for SMB3 and then turn around and sell it for $25. I would suggest stopping by Gus's place, Cybertron. He's a collector as well, and he's always willing to work with you. He let me swap out some plastic shells for Saturn/Sega CD games so that all of my purchases had pristene cases (instead of broken cases), and I took most of the foam inserts to place in my cases. He also has a decent amount of stock.

I purchased BlackThorne and Primal Rage for 32X from the guy you're talking about though for cheap, so he obviously doesn't know all of his games.

I frequent the Flea World in Sanford almost every weekend - maybe I'll meet up with you there sometime and we can swap some stuff.

What?! They had Castlevania III there?! I'm planning on going there today around 7 or 8. Thanks for snatching up the good games... grr... Tell me, did they have anything else good, aside from that copy of Mega Man 2 that's been sitting there for 2 months?

I generally don't like that store though. Every one of the workers except that black guy is always playing games or bs'ing. I can stand up at the counter for 10 minutes without being helped, and the guys at the counter won't stop talking. Only reason I go there is because that store and the Goodwill by me are the only sources I have for classic games.

I didn't see Mega Man 2 there, otherwise I may have picked it up. I didn't really have a chance to look around since I got wrapped up in the argument, but I did see all 3 Wizard and Warriors there, other than that I really don't remember what else was there. The girl there had told me someone had just dropped off a bunch of games there, so I guess I got lucky and snatched one of the good ones up.

I might go check out the one in Miami today with a buddy and see what they have, there's also one that's not that much further away from 145th, but I doubt I'll go to that one anytime soon.

You see I'm the type of person that takes their time in stores and find it annoying when the workers keep on bothering me when I'm looking around, so if they take awhile to get to me I don't really mind. The girl is the one that approached me and gave me a nice compliment when I asked for Castlevania 3 and the two black guys kept on giving me compliments when they saw what I was buying, so I found the experience rather pleasant. I'm also a very noticeable person, or at least that's what my friends and other people have told me, so I guess I make my presence known without me even realizing it.

I don't like people bothering me either, but there's an extreme difference here: I'm at the counter waiting patiently, and they act like they don't even notice me. It's alright that they let me do my thing while I'm just browsing, but when I want to buy something or see something behind the counter, they're always goofing off. JustRob shares similar feelings about this location. In addition to the standard demo booths PnT has, they brought in 4 HDTVs in the back wall just for people to goof off. There's a hell of a lot of playing, but not a whole lot of trading.

Oh well, looks like I'm getting Kuros: Visions of Power today.

Also to South FL members, let's share messenger contacts. Mine are already listed under my avatar.

NES:
Rygar
W&W 3 (like you said)

Genesis:
Flicky
Vectorman
World of Illusion
Gunstar fucking Heroes
Ecco: The Tides of Time

Also had a few more decent games, like the silver label Metroid ($10), The Jungle Book for both SNES and Genesis, and Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure for Genesis. SMB/Duck Hunt, SMB2, and SMB3 are there too if anyone is missing those from their NES collection :P

I've seen a few things come through craigslist as of late in Orlando, so I decided to check out the Palm Beach listings (which, incidentally, are listed under the Miami craigslist). Things are extremely dry for the Palm Beach listings, but it seems like Miami is drowning in Sega listings :) I saw a good 3DO listing in Miramar, but I really don't feel like driving down there this weekend.

I'd suggest checking out craigslist if things are drying up in local stores like I'm currently seeing here in Orlando. A few stores are closing up shop here that I recently heard about, so I keep seeing their stuff tossed up on craigslist as well.

Well...my apartment was flooded a week ago, so some of my games were damaged (Secret of Mana...). The last month has been hell for me.

We brought a friend's cat to the vet in Orlando, since that vet is the only vet left in the area that's willing to work with one of my cats. We stopped at the Goodwill there, since I remembered that they carried SNES and Genesis games when I stopped in around '05. Here's my FIND OF THE YEAR:

SNES ($1.99 each):
P.T.O. II
Obitus
SimCity 2000
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (!)
Mega Man X (!)
Illusion of Gaia (!)
Secret of Evermore (!)
Chrono Trigger (!!!)

I also purchased some Game Guides for $1:
BradyGames Secret Codes 2004
The Sims: Hot Date
Rugrats in Paris: The Movie
Doom 3
Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (!)
Enter the Matrix

All of those SquareSoft RPGS for $2/each....wow. They just came in today too.

Any progress on a "convention" sort of deal for South Florida for DP members?

Holy crap, I just moved to South Florida a few months ago, after living in the Chicago suburbs my whole life. I ended up moving to West Palm Beach.

Heh, tonight is the first time I saw this thread.

Anyway, I bought Resident Evil 5 in April at a GameStop in the nearly abandoned-looking Palm Beach Mall. I went back there a few weeks later to find that GS had closed! Thankfully there's decent GS on Okeechobee Blvd even closer, that's where I picked up Raiden Fighters Aces :)

p.s. (nothing to do with gaming) The humidity during what's called the "wet season" here, is killing me! Thankfully for me it's only a 4-mile drive to the beach. OMG i love the ocean ^__^
I originally wanted to move to South Florida for the semi-tropical climate, that northern & central Florida does not have, at least not to the same degree.

http://myfwc.com/images/Maps/FLzones.jpg

See how that thin orange-colored zone extends north along the Atlantic Coast? It means West Palm Beach has basicly the same climate as Miami!

That's actually true, right?

Yup. West Palm is classified as sub-tropical.

The classification of sub-tropical and tropical can get very confusing.

All of Florida including the Keys, technically is in the sub-tropics, because it's above the Tropic of Cancer line.

Climate-wise, most of Florida is concidered sub-tropical. However according to many sources including wikipedia, South Florida has a tropical climate.
Especially the urban areas of Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties along the coast.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida

The climate of Florida is tempered somewhat by the fact that no part of the state is very distant from the ocean. North of lake Okeechobee, the prevalent climate is humid subtropical climate, while south of the lake has a true tropical climate.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Florida_metropolitan_area

South Florida has a tropical climate, the only major metropolitan area in the 48 contiguous states that falls under this category (Koppen climate classification Aw)[23]. The metropolis does experience cold fronts from November through March, however most of the year is warm and humid and the mean temperature for any month is never below 64.4 °F (18 °C). In addition, the metropolis sees most of its rain in the summer (wet season) and is mainly dry in winter (dry season). The wet season, which is hot and humid, lasts from May to October, when it gives way to the dry season, which features mild temperatures with some invasions of colder air, which is when the little winter rainfall occurs — with the passing of a front. The hurricane season largely coincides with the wet season.[24]

In addition to its sea-level elevation, coastal location and position just above the Tropic of Cancer, the area owes its warm, humid climate to the Gulf Stream, which moderates climate year-round. A typical summer day does not see temperatures below 75 °F (24 °C). Temperatures in the high 80s to low 90s (30-35 °C) accompanied by high humidity are often relieved by afternoon thunderstorms or a sea breeze that develops off the Atlantic Ocean, which then allow lower temperatures, although conditions still remain very muggy. During winter, humidity is significantly lower, allowing for cooler weather to develop. Average minimum temperatures during that time are around 60 °F (15 °C), very rarely dipping below 40 °F (4 °C), and the maximum averages around 75 °F (24 °C).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_climate

Examples of tropical climates

Southern Florida, Hawaii, The Caribbean, Southeast Asia, Seychelles, North Queensland or most of Brazil.

Edit: Hey I used to work at the Gamestop in the Palm Beach Mall. Place is a ghost town now though.

Yup, it reminds me of several malls in northern Illinois in the suburbs of Chicago such as Deerbrook Mall (still in biz i think) in Deerfield, IL and Lakehurst Mall (http://www.lakehurstmall.net/) (RIP) in Waukegan IL, they both became ghost towns.

My friend hit the jackpot at the Goodwill in Pines and picked the following up for me for $20.

An Orange N64 (no power adapter, expansion port empty)
An Orange N64 Controller with a torn cord.
An N64 Rumble Pack that's missing the back for the batteries.
Various RF Adaptors from (most from Radioshack) for N64, PS1/2 and one for a Sega system.
Various plugs (One SNES, One NES and one for god knows what)
An Orange NES Light Gun
2 NES controllers
A SNES controller (needed one of those!)
A Genesis controller (I ended up giving that to him for the Genesis I got him for his Birthday)

NES

NES Pro Action Football
TMNT 2 (previously owned by William Perez apparently)
Home Alone 2 (with a rad Goof Troop sticker on the back)
Operation WOLF
Battle Chess
Mega Man 2
XEXYZ
RoadBlasters
Mario/Duckhunt (a crack in the cart, oh dear)
The Little Mermaid
Joust
The Adventure of Bayou Billy

SNES

Super Mario World
Donkey Kong Country (Which I just recently got PnT, stupid me)
Scooby Doo Mysteries
NFL Quarterback Club 96
Mario Is Missing
Eye Of The Beholder

N64

Pokoemon Stadium (Previously owned by JR Junior)
Command and Conquer
Destruction Derby 64

Pretty damn good find, he said he walked in and asked the guy how much they wanted. The guy simply shrugged and said $20, then he went on his way after calling me about the find. He also said that someone was eyeing the box right after he walked in, that's when he made the jump and grabbed it before the other guy. So if that was any of you, that was one of my troops.

-Sega Genesis model 2 revision VA3 or VA4
-Genesis 6-button controllers (Majesco models)
-Sega Saturn light guns
-Sega Saturn 3D controllers

Saw the n64 in the case, right next to it was a game gear setup with the external battery pack for $20. Almost picked that p.

I *did* however pick up an Atari 2600 jr. setup they had there with like 20 games and assortment of controllers. Was $40 but I figured it makes for a good starter system.

BTW, for anyone else interested, this is the thrift mall I've spoken about. 54th street and 40th ave (miami streets), 10th ave East and 9th street (hialeah streets).

They had about 30 or so SNES carts in the bin/table thing at the back of the store. Mostly decent games, but at $4 a piece, I didn't want to pick any up just then.

This place has the occasional deal. This is where I found that sears 2600/intv combo along with random other stuff. There's always something there to be found.

You'll never get another find as good as that, guaranteed.

Cheetahmen II for $3 count? That was my find last year :)
I seem to have a good deal every year.

Stopped at the Hallandale Goodwill this afternoon and they had quite a selection of Genesis games behind the counter for those interested. Not quite sure what games they had tho, I didn't bother to look since I generally don't collect for Genesis. I did however pick up Wrecking Crew and Tiny Toon Adventures 2 for $2 each, so I was pretty happy with that.

It's strange, because I got a loose Chrono Trigger for $2 in 2009 as well. Near mint. I was with FamicomFreak at the Ft. Lauderdale Swap Shop.

I would, but I'm broke for a while. Famicom Frak (typo intended) just went last Sunday. You might be on your own, Justin.

I'm luckily in close driving proximity of 2 PlayNTrades. Other than that, this thread has opened up a lot of possible places for me to visit. I'm also going to subscribe to this thread, cause I wouldn't mind dealing locally. Cool thread.

If you're interested in possible finds at the Fort Lauderdale flea market (whatever it's called), another collector told me of his past finds there:

Daytona Netlink - $5
Tons of sealed PS1 RPGs - $5
Various boxed NES games - $2-$10

This was back in 2004-2006 area though, so I'm not sure what it's like...but it sounds like a lot of stuff moves through there at times.

Agreed. WPB or bust. :2gunfire:

I have to admit, I don't remember many places in Palm Beach for finds. I wasn't actively looking before I moved to Orlando though. Are they still having the weekly flea market under I-95 in Lake Worth? I used to buy all my NES games there as a kid.

They moved the Flea Market into Lake Worth High campus when they renovated the Tri-rail station but yeah, it's still going. We've got a couple Play N Trades now too, and Stuart has a decent flea that's not too far of a drive.

Went to some Pawn shops in Naples today andmade a few other stops. Best find of the day was a Sega CDX and N64 for $15 for both, all the other games were $3-5, Zoop was $8 and Firehouse rescue was $15, but that one is a pain to find in the box. In all a great day. Finally have a cdx after looking for one for almost a year.

I dunno. I've done pretty well when I actually get a chance to go out. I just don't usually post about it.

Play n Trade on Miramar Parkway just east of I-75 is closed.
and the PnT off US1 in Oakland Park has drastically jacked up all their retro prices beyond ebay levels. $120 for FFVII GH. $30 for SMS After Burner.

Yeah, been closed for 3 or 4 months now. Shame, since my university is right there. Used to walk right over when I was done with class. But the guys working there were all slackers. I saw it coming.

Sorry I misread. Thought you meant that West Palm had shitty finds. Although Miami's only 2 hours by train, it may as well be another Country from here. Although I've lived in Florida all my life I've only been down there 3 times, and that's counting a trip to the Zoo.

Yeah well that's about all there is here, just one big zoo...haha

I was at the PnT in Sarasota and Tampa the other day. Was kinda neat I saw some Neo Geo AES games in the box, first time ever seeing them other than on Ebay, I could hardly believe how big the carts were!

I finally have some trades. Got a Saturn deal from craigslist on Tuesday and a couple of the games are duplicates for me, and some I don't find very fun x_x I'll trade them or give you a good deal.

Pebble Beach Golf Links
Panzer Dragoon 1
Virtua Fighter 2 (loose)
NHL All-Star Hockey
Clockwork Knight
NBA Jam T.E.
Boxed RF Adapter (Performance brand)

NiGHTS sampler (loose)

Metal Gear Solid (Black Label)

Sega Genesis model 2 (VA3 motherboard, good audio quality with a Sony CXA1145 video encoder)

I like buying a game lot, but you always get some stuff you don't need.

Anything new and interesting in the Tampa area?
I'm visiting next month, and haven't been down there in over 3 years.
Any must-see's?

Not really, Busch Gardens has a new roller coaster called Sheikra that is pretty sweet. I was there in December and went to some of the flea markets. Found some decent deals on some NES and PS1 games.

There isn't much here in east central Florida either. We have a place called Gorilla Games that has a few things but they are mostly over priced. Then there is a guy at the Super Flea flea market that usually has some interesting things but not much I want.
