Ok....time again for one of these asinine threads. But, I really wanna know. Those of us in South Florida know how ridiculously shitty it is to find stuff in the wild. All 4 of us.

Share your hunting grounds, share your finds. There's not much to find down here, but we can help each other out. Let's use this thread as a report card of the stops we all know.

I'll start...

Game Stores:
I only know of one independent store in North Miami Beach. It's right across the street from the old 163rd st Mall. Ironically, there's a Game/Moviestop on the opposite side of the street. I went in there a couple of weeks ago and they were mostly ps1 era games and newer. Nothing on the shelves to indicate any kind of classic stock. The prices were somewhat decent and they have an AWESOME trade-in policy. Buy a game new from them, trade it in within 90 days in newish condition, and they'll give you 90% of new trade in value towards anything in the store.

Thrifts:
There are plenty of these. Not many that are decent.
Let's see, there's the thrift mall in Hialeah, just east of Le Jeune. There are like 5 or 6 stores in that one strip mall. Never found anything decent there but ya never know.

In North Miami, right on the intersection of 125th St/6th Ave/Dixie Hwy there are three thrifts all sharing the intersection. One is a goodwill with mostly crap game-wise. The other two are small independent church-run type stores. Not too good. I'd avoid them unless you are *really* in need of that thrift fix.

My favorite spot, while unfortunately being a Goodwill, is in North Miami Beach at the Skylake Mall, Miami Gardens Drive and 18th Ave. This is where I do my usual shopping. Damn good selection of books and records. I'll usually find something video game related here. They'll have random carts from all generations on one of the book shelves next to the 4000 VHS tapes they've built up. This is also where I found the CiB Mint 32x I just sold on ebay.

Then we have Thrift Row in Hallandale. Just west of I-95 on Hallandale Beach Blvd we have a few decent sized stops. Think Thrift/The Jewish Recycling Center are good places to search for typical thrift items, but kinda sparse on games. Occasionally they'll have some carts in the book/records area but more usually just some bagged boxed PC games on the toy hooks. A couple of blocks away we have the Douglas Gardens Thrift Center. I personally like this place for random old electronics. I've seen full setups of old 8/16 bit computer systems and such. They'll every once in awhile have something decent console wise but it's hit and miss. Further down the street we have a HUGE AtoZ liquidators place. This warehouse is PACKED full of old crap. You *never* know what you'll find there. Their hours suck, but if you can make it when they're open, they're usually pretty good for something interesting.

So...that's a start. Anyone care to add to this list?

Miami game hunting has sucked since:

Swap Shop in Ft. Lauderdale guy left

New Focus (import games and probably THE first used video game store in the city closed down) (67th and Bird)

Microplay shut down on 117th and 72nd

GameStop bought Babbage's.

The "Exchange" shut down on 107th across from FIU.

There is one place in North Miami I found that has a lot of classic games next to a sub shop, but I am not sure if it is still there. Most of the games pretty pretty dirty, and the CD games were scratched up.

Miami doesn't have ANY good used CD/Video Game places, and there is a freaking 35,000 student university on one end, and a private one in Coral Gables on the other.

The one next to the sub shop in North Miami, do you remember what it was called or where? I can check it out and report here about it.

And I agree about the areas around FIU and UM. Something like 400,000 college student population just for Dade County and not a single decent place for used games.

There's a huge Goodwill out by I think Davie, I was going to swing by there today, but I can't exactly remember where it is. The thrift stores down Hollywood Blvd. (across from the defunct millennium mall) don't have much at all. The Goodwill had a Mario/Duck Hunt cart and a N64 game and the other had 2 Dreamcasts, a Genesis and some really old sports tv game thing.

I was going to hit up a few of the pawn shops, but I didn't feel up to it.

DreamTR

Nah, I forgot what the one next to the sub shop was called. I want to say it was on Dixie Hwy, and I know there is a decrepid Goodwill nearby, but really, no one should have to go to thrift stores to look for classic games.

Huh and I figured Miami hunting would be more interesting than West Palm. Every couple of months I go down to Tate's Comics in Lauderhill, nothing gaming related except the odd action figure. They have loads of nice stuff in that department, but there's a GameStop/EB on the otherside of University Drive that always has something worth picking up. Their store is much cleaner than the usual GS, and they keep manuals behind the counter with the game discs. Example I found Wild Arms Alter Code F there just other Saturday, which I've been scouting for awhile now.

As posted in another thread there's a new classic gaming store in the Wellington Green Mall called CGX. Everything from Atari to Ps3.

Thrifting is always hit or miss. The Lake Worth Flea market is very swap-shopish now with the cowboy boots, jeans, and crappy electronics. But last time I was there I found a vendor selling SNES games for $4 a piece. Not a great price but he had 3 copies of Yoshi's Island in addition to the obligatory sports titles.

Goodwill blows. There's a nice Pawn around the corner from me on Military Trail and Forest Hill that has Saturn games though. Nothing fantastic but I haven't checked in awhile.

There isn't anything of interest by the Pembroke Lakes Mall is there? I was considering driving around that area, since it's not someplace I frequently drive by, but I'd rather ask here than wasting my time. There are mad amounts of Pawnshops in the Hollywood area tho, especially by the Hardrock, I might swing by them tomorrow to kill some time.

Man how I miss the days of CD City.

Where's there's a casino you'll find a shit ton of pawnshops. :Þ

Never thought about it before but the reason we probably have so many around West Palm is because of the dog track.

There's also that big ass salvation army on University and Johnson. I checked it out a couple of saturdays ago. Not a damn thing worth looking at. The main SA headquarters place on Broward and 95 is usually ok for the random CD based game, but ya never know.

Theres always a huge flea market type deal at the Mardi Gras casino/dog track down Pembroke Road. I've never had a chance to check it out (only on weekends of course), but you never know, it could be a goldmine.

JustRob
03-12-2007, 10:54 PM
Yeah, I keep forgetting to mention the fleas. Swap Shop north & south, the one at the dog track, shit, even that god awful opa-locka one in nw dade. One of them has to be worth something.

It looks like there is/was something opening up where the shitty Millennium Mall was. I saw a sign saying something about a thrift store and a few other places when I passed by it today, but it was all boarded up.

JustRob
03-12-2007, 11:22 PM
Ok, now I'm curious. Just how many of us are there?

I'm Bobby, currently living in Hollywood. I collect only Sega right now, specifically DC.

Ok, that'll do for a basic intro.

exit
03-12-2007, 11:30 PM
It seems that there's only 3 or 4 of us, which I guess is more than I expected. If I see any DC games on one of my adventures (I'm looking for a few myself, I've been relying on torrents lately tho), I'll try and keep you posted. I personally don't look for anything specific, that way if I don't find anything it's not such a big deal. I do try to scope out NES and SNES games more than anything, but I never hold my breath.

JustRob

I'm going to put up a list of what I have/don't have. I'm thinking we should all look out for each other based on our want lists. If I see something one of you need I'll pick it up. No need to charge, just recoup the cost. In such a small community, we have to look out for each other.

That's the best bet really, especially since we're in an area that's usually bone dry. I usually pick up anything I see, just because chances are I won't see anything like it for awhile. I've done it a few times at EB and got a few nice games out of it, that was right before they dicked us and stopped buying/selling anything before PS2.

Tomorrow I'll probably hit up a few pawn shops, I've been meaning to check out People's Pawn for awhile anyway. Plus theres a pawn shop near by selling Suikoden II in seemingly perfect condition., so that will give me a reason to drive around.

DreamTR

Margate Swap Shop used to have some good deals. I always went to fleas when I was down there. I will say that the one with the circus (Ft. Lauderdale) is GREAT for finding stuff.

The GameStop in Pembroke Pines in the strip mall has GREAT games for some reason. I picked up a plethora of RPGS when I went there. Actually, even with the lack of game stores, I always end up buying a ton of crap from places when I visit.

I lived in Miami for 11 years and graduated from Miami Coral Park.

JustRob

So, who's going hunting this weekend and what are you hoping to find?

I intend to hit the hallandale strip, the Skylake Goodwill and maybe the Hialeah thrift mall if I can get down there. If I get a chance, I may try to hit the swap shop sunday.

At this point, with such low numbers in my collection left, I am just out there to see what I can find. If it's something interesting for other systems, I'll pick it up. If you have an immediate want list, let me know what's on it and I'll keep my eye open for you.

Well I just got back from a hunt and came up empty. What really grinds my gears is the pawnshop that had Suikoden II, fucking wants $84 for it because "that's what it goes for on e-bay." Now I've heard about these kinds of things before, but Jesus fucking Christ, just sell it on e-bay asshole.

The most I saw were a few loose DC games, scratched up to hell, a DC Web disc and a copy of Madden 94 for Genesis. The Hollywood area is completely dry, maybe I just pick the exact wrong times to go searching.

DreamTR
03-13-2007, 05:17 PM
Actually $84 for Suikoden II sounds pretty good! =)

Stores (I know it's a pawn shop) are going to charge more than eBay for the opporunity for you to get it immediately. I found one of those in an EB Games just last year hanging around when they were putting the new stores all over the LA area. Boy did I clean out the PSX titles from these places then.....

Here's a suggestion:

Yahoo Yellow Pages

Type in Video Games

Go Nuts. Some of those places are mom and pop stores.

Ok all, I finally got around to taking pics. Nothing was exactly found in the wild, but they are mine nonetheless.

Note: They average over 500k, so if anyone is still on dialup, grab a cup of coffee.

1) A lot of 5 games from merriman_bk right here on the DP forums

If any of you get over to Ft Myers/Cape Coral area I've got a few places you might want to check. They may still be viable, or they may be obsolete. May also be asking eBay prices by now <sigh> It's been just about two years since I moved from the area.

First, look up a place called Abcd in Cape Coral. Formerly located on Del Prado before Charley hit, but relocated to Hancock Bridge Parkway after building damage forced temporary closure. Nice guy, ok prices. If you have breathing problems beware, as incense is sold/used there.

There are also 2 pawn shops I used to stop at in close proximity.

I can't remember the name of the first (USA Pawn, maybe?), which was in the process of looking to move when I left the area. If you take Hancock Bridge Parkway east (from Abcd) to the end (Tamiami Trail/Rt 41) you'd make a left at the light, and an immediate right into the parking lot of the small shopping area.

There was also the somewhat over-priced King's Pawn (or some such name) which I stopped at once. It was a few blocks up (north) on left side. It didn't handle video games at the time, but may be worth a look-see if it's still there.

Last is Larry's, on Bayshore, east of Rt 41. I should say east of BOTH Rt 41's Business Rt and Tamiami Trail) PSX games were $10 there, and is where I got my FFVII. They had other systems and games there, too. Just continue north on 41 and make a right on to Bayshore. The yellow building on the right is kinda hard to miss. If you go by the Shell station you've gone to far. If you reach I-75 you're about 5 miles past it.

Hope this helps... someone, anyway.

Alright, find report for this weekend.

Not much, only a couple of things. Both are from the Goodwill in Skylake; Miami Gardens Drive and 18th Ave, in the publix shopping plaza...

GEN Syndicate, in the box but no manual for $2.
Star Trek Action Pack, box with 4cd case and "manual", $6
(Voyager Elite Force w/expansion pack; Armada I & II)

I'll have pics up as soon as I take them. Otherwise, not so bad. I've been looking for the Trek games cheap so I got something I wanted.

Nice to see someone (formerly) from Fort Myers / Cape Coral... I had the "luck" of being born in Fort Myers, and I'm still here 22 years later.

King's Pawn is no longer in business, and I don't think they ever had games anyway, so no loss. Larry's is decent, but doesn't have too much as far as selection goes.

A.B.CD's is probably the best bet, in terms of selection and pricing, but even they don't have a great amount to offer.

There's a place called Silver Platter on U.S. 41 across from the Edison Mall that used to have a lot of good stuff. Unfortunately, the owner eBays most of it, but it's still worth a look.

In reference to the earlier post about keeping want lists up, good idea. We can help each other out. If anyone else is from this area, speak up! We're few and far between out here...

I live in Ft. Myers ;-P Yea I was at Silver Platter not too long ago, picked up REsident Evil 2 for PSX for $12 which was good. Fleamasters has some good deals if you shop the garage sale lots around the main building. Got a complete Altered Beast for Genesis for $3 and Final Fantasy in the box for NES for $10. I love all the games they have at Mario World but she is so over priced on all her stuff. Theres a new game store called Play and Trade just off of US-41 across from the Page Field Commons. They carry some used NES,SNES,Genesis, N64 games, decent prices too. If anyone knows of anywhere else let me know, i collect everything from Atari 2600 to NES, SNES Genny, Saturn and Dreamcast.

Mario World has an awesome selection, but horrible prices, and the guy who owns it is just a total prick, so I hate shopping there.

There's another Play-N-Trade in Cape Coral near Santa Barbara and Veterans', and I saw one out in Lehigh recently but I didn't have the time to go in. It was off of Colonial, or whatever the road calls itself when you get out to Lehigh. Another place to look would be the flea market on Ortiz. There are a lot of people with games to get rid of, with no clue as to their value.

Anyone who feels like picking something up if they see it, I'm trying my damnedest to track down Project Justice for Dreamcast. Help a brother out!

That's actually a great idea, as none of my friends are into video games enough to go hunting for them. Plus the fact that road trips are awesome. This is assuming that there are more than two Lee County people here. We can't be the only ones.

I must say yesterday was one of the best hunting days I have ever had. First stop goodwill and picked up Alien Trilogy for Saturn for $6. Next stop was at Family Thrift where I got my best deal of the day, 2 atari 2600 mini's with controllers and about 38 games for $35, most of the carts were in good condition and both systems worked so that was a plus. Stopped by the Salvation Army off of Fowler and got Caesars Palace 2 for PSX for $2, hit up Silver Platter and got Frogger for 2600 for $1 and boxed Vectorman for Genesis for $5. Last stop was at play and trade and got Bible Adventures for NES for $3. A very good day indeed. :D

Heh, ok. After a long break from anything even remotely collecting related.

Went to the thrift mall in Hialeah today. Picked up a few things. Only item gaming wise was a loose NES Miracle Piano cart. Got an original issue movie Klingon Cruiser model kit, two still-shrinkwrapped MiniDiscs (awesome, needed those), and a few books and stuff.

I do have one gripe. My dad is a flight sim junkie and I saw an Ultimate Flight III compilation box set in one of those plastic baggies they throw up on the hooks. Tag said 2.95 so I grab it. It's supposed to have three games in it, this one ended up having one game and the empty sleeves for the other two. Fucking pissed me off.

So, how has it been for everyone else?

Well I did my every once and awhile visit to the Salvation Army, while I didn't find jack there (like usual), I stopped at Game Stop and I was treated to a nice surprise. There was a bin that had some N64, NES and SNES games in it. Well I don't have a N64 and the SNES games were just crappy sports titles, I did snag up the decent looking NES carts.

Tiger-Heli
Kid Riki
Cobra Command
Digger T. Rock
Commando
Goonies 2
Frankenstein: The Monster Returns
Silver Surfer

I would've snagged them all. but like I said, these were mostly all the good ones minus the doubles and the one golf game. I went to the other GS's in my area, but this was the only one that had any left, so I guess I finally got my first haul.

Wow, maybe I should start hanging out here more. I'm a barfly over at Atari Age, mostly because...well just because and to devote time to another board is probablly not a good idea. I mostly lurk the marketplace and 99% of my posts are "PM sent", and "YGPM"
BUT, I live in hollywood and it's true, South Florida SUCKS for classic gaming. I've been to just about every placed named in this thread.
The American Thrift on Hollywood blvd has had some Atari stuff, but WAY overpriced...the Goodwill next door I've only ever seen 2 instr manuals, Outlaw and Combat.
forget Salvation Army, particularly the one on University and Johnson. I work right by there, and they have zip, nada, nothing. they seem to be selling one of 2 things; used clothing and high end trinkets. No electronics period.
The swap shopis your best bet, but only in the garage sale section. I picked up a (somewhat) working Lynx with Paperboy 2 wks ago for $3 bucks. The screen is garbled and pretty much not worth playing, so I gave away the Paperboy to a bud at AA and the Lynx is now collecting dust. Still, it was exciting for about 10 minutes that I made a "find".
Dont bother with the putz who had the little store. He's the eppitomal rip off. First time I saw his booth it caught my eye b/c he had an NES Final Fantasy. He wanted $30 bucks, and at the time boxed w/instr they were at most $20-$25 on ebay. I told him that and he got enraged. He showed me this piece of torn cardboard with illegible writing, something about "NES joemac $27.00", and "super mario2 $40" and such...says thats what these carts go for on Ebay at which point I thanked him for selling his games for so cheap in the 99 degree florida heat when he could be getting twice that from the air conditioned comfort of his home.
I dont know why, he seemed to not like that and told me to F! off.
Anyways, if there ever is a garage sale drive or swap meet I'd like to tag along. Although I can just picture a bunch of us actually stumbling on a find at one of the places and fistfighting over it LOL!

Friend of mine lives in orlando. Went to goodwill with his wife as he is want to do and found a saturn with all the cabling and two controllers, otherwise bare, for $20. Since they are 100% non-existent down here, I told him to grab it for me. So, I've now got a saturn.

Went to the goodwill in Skylake with my girlfriend, 18th and Miami Gardens Dr. Trying to get her in the hobby as she's a total gamer herself. Found 4 CIB Master System games: World Grand Prix, Teddy Boy(Card game), Hang-On/Safari Hunt, and Ghostbusters. WGP is a 3 in the guide, the others 1s, but these are the first SMS games I've *ever* found in the wild outside of fleas.

Still, nice finds for not really trying.

BTW, penguin, PM Sent.

Ok, updates on locations and finds...

Sunday my gf and her best friend were supposed to hit up the swap shop but we got rained out. That's ok. Bira Bira smiled upon me today...

First, the thrift mall in Hialeah is now down to 2 viable stores. The Think Thrift has closed. Only the Red White and Blue and the Community Family Thrift store are still open.

Got bored on my day off today so I stopped into these two stores.

At the RW&B I found sweetness in the form of a Sears Video Arcade rev B and a Sears Super Video Arcade (2600 & Intelivsion, sweeeeet). I don't collect for these but I couldn't let them stay there. There was some douchebag walking around with his friend saying how he loves raping thrifts for video games to toss on ebay. Cause, ya know, retro gaming gear is such an uber rare find and go for sooooo much money...

No way in hell was I going to let these things be touched by that douchebag. I may not collect the systems, but I'll be goddamned if I'll let them be grabbed up by some asshole who'll mistreat them and try to sucker some unsuspecting newbie to collecting into over paying for them cause they're soooooo rare and valuable and shit.

Fuck that.

Next door at Community, I found a shoe box of GB stuff. 2 color units and an original clear-tint GBA for 9.99 each. I grabbed the GBA and left behind all the barbie and bratz games that were in there. The GB Camera was also in there, so I popped it into the GBA and tested it out. 30 pics of some 12 year old little girl making faces. I put it back cause it made me feel like a pedophile or some shit.

Also found the Saturn NetLink disc in that huge pile of CDs that always seem to collect. That's a find for me since I'm now a 100% sega guy.

Anyway, how's the hunting for you guys?

Swap Shop blows you didn't miss anything.

They have a big video game store there set up in a permanent trailer, but everything's way over priced and they have computers set up to refer to ebay for pricing.

I asked the lady there how much their older games were and she replied that Mario and collector games start at $20. I asked her what collector games were exactly and she told me quote, unquote, "games people want."

The buisness appears to be operated by a large Spanish family and I'm convinced that her kids scour the rest of the Flea Market for videogames in the mornings, bringing everything back to this overpriced "hub".

LOL, I always pass by that booth. The guy who operates it pisses me off. I asked him the price of NES games at one point and he goes $5 each. As soon as I started to pick up good games, hes like oh....thats a good game 15 for that or 25 for that. He wants insane prices for everything, even sports games. He's always changing his prices with me because he knows I love collecting. I stopped buying from him now unless he has an empty console box I need.

You could still find some good items at the swap shop though. For example, I got a vectrex with 4 games and all the manuals for $40 bux, a virtual boy complete in box with manuals and such for $35, a QJ game action replay (NES) for $3 and its boxed.

As for the The American Thrift on Hollywood blvd, I think Ive seen the same atari items that the previous poster saw hehe. I believe they also have 2 telstar consoles. They will never sell any of the gaming items they have. They wanted $100 for a regular atari 2600. It wasn't even a heavy sixer.....

I live in West Palm, the hour drive it takes to even get to the Swap Shop isn't worth the gamble for me. :/

Welcome to the Classic Gaming Wasteland that is otherwise known as Palm Beach County.

I quit going to the flea markets locally several years ago. Nothing but NES commons that are way overpriced. I have had much better luck going North for flea markets and thrift stores.

I just got back from the swap shop. I got 19 genesis games in their original boxes and they still had the booklets inside. They're almost in perfect condition. I paid $22 for them all. I also bought 10 nes games for 10 bux and an empty x-box box and mini snes box for 5 bux.

Sonic the hedgehog 3
ecco the dolphin
castle of illusions
batman returns
rocket knight advenures
roar of the beast
the lion king
aladdin
nba live 97
sonic 3d blast
bulls VS blazers
x-men
golden axe II
sonic the hedgehog
spider man x-men
quackshot
krusty's super fun house
batman forever

Not bad for a dollar and a couple cents each especially since they're all complete :)
By the way, I forgot to mention that I got a virtual boy for $3. It works but its missing the power source and eye shade. I guess I can use it as a spare.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only Hollywood bound person that can't find anything, well it's also pretty depressing at the same time. Hollywood Thrift is alright if you want to find a old console, I'd hit them up if I need a replacement Dreamcast. The Salvation Army always has one or two Genesis games and they've seemed to have really slimmed down on their CD section, which is a shame since they sometimes had a few odd gems there.

Also, avoid the pawnshow that's on Young Circle, the owner is a E-Bay Nazi and I've seen games with their original $9.99 price crossed off and replaced with $65.00. I wanted to get into an argument with the guy after he said "It's the e-bay price" and mention the E-Bay price for the loose CDs he had would be no more than fifty cents, no the $10 they try to sell some of them for.

Other than that, the few other pawnshops I've hit mostly had Dreamcast consoles with no wires, so at least I know of a few places to get one from.

What place are you talking about on young circle? I don't remember seeing a game store there. Im just curious about the location.

441 is loaded with pawn shops. I've had some luck finding games and consoles in some of them. I paid a short visit to the goodwill on the corner of Hollywood Blvd and 441. The only game related item they had was the pedals from a steering wheel set.

You should check out the gamestop in the Hollywood Hills plaza. The address is 3251 Hollywood Blvd. The phone number is 954-985-6506. It's in the same shopping center as Target. My connections there tell me they will be putting out a shit load of ps1 and n64 games for 75% off. It should be within the next few weeks. On top of the 75% off, you can get another 10% off with a discount card. I will let you guys know when they put them out. They have hundreds of them sitting in the back room for liquidation.

Bit of an update...a new Goodwill opened on Taft St. in Hollywood. About 2 weeks ago and I've been checking every other day. No gaming stuff whatsoever. The first day I went there was a Tetris 2 for the SNES, and a SNES controller, each for 2 bucks. I went back 2 days later and someone had bought them (not that either was anything I wanted)
Yet another dry spot.

It's on Hollywood and 441, across the highway from the joke that was Millennium Mall. I actually need to go check them out now that my car is *finally* running smoothly. I usually stop by a few places once a month, but haven't for almost 6 months.

It's not a game store, it's a pawn shop and I haven't bothered going back there since. I really wish something good would open up where CD City use to be, now that was an awesome place to go for games and music.

I think it's all of florida. I go to jacksonville fleas on the regular and hardly ever find ANYTHING unless it's at a dealers booth. Same with the thrifts, seems if they have something good the give me the ol it's $X on ebay bs.

Yes, it's actually that very same shopping center, on the east end (where Publix used to be YEARS ago before they moved to the middle of the ctr.)
...And I've gone about 3 more times since my last post. Still no gaming stuff at all.

Hey did get a decent deal from the new Goodwill. A working N64 with one (N64) controller and a PS1 controller all for $10. Nothing spectacular, plus I already have two N64's that I never play...but it was a good enough buy that I had to snag it!

The Movie Gallery across the street from me was closing, picked up a sealed Bomberman and Iceclimbers classic NES series for the GBA for $5 each, and got Dead or Alive Ultimate for $5. Also the local Family Thrift I got a bare NES toaster for $1 and Techmo Bowl and Goal! for $2 each (loose carts).

My friends Grandfather does the whole dumpster diving thing and sometimes scores some cool things. A couple of months ago he scored him a N64 with a few games and his daughter was hooked on Mario 64 for a while. Just last night my friend hands me a bag and says there was a (maybe) broken PS2, a Genesis and a few games.

I haven't had the chance to really look in the bag, but I saw the Genesis and a "Not For Resale" Streets of Rage 2, so I'm not sure what else is in there.

I remember when that was the Hollywood Fashion Center. Back in the '80s, I lived within walking distance from it and used to hang out at Bally's Aladdin's Castle all the time. There was Circus Playhouse and Toys 'R Us right across the street and I could buy my comics at Super Heroes Unlimited down the street from the McDonald's on Hollywood Blvd. That's all gone now. :(

Is SHU still there though? I went back to visit in 2006, but I didn't get a chance to check on the comic shop.

I'm going to say no. That whole area has turned into a shithole. The fashion mall tried to reopen as an indoor flea market permanent booth kinda deal a few years ago. A friend's mom had a perma-booth selling teddy bears and cutesy stationary type stuff. Place went to shit less than a year later again and is just waiting to be turned into a home depot or something. Could definitely use a wal-mart in that area too. That'd be nice.
