I have had my Dreamcast for a good long while, and although I've gotten by with its malfunctioning, it's starting to reach the point with me where I become insanely pissed off. This goes double because it doesn't even play older DC games anymore. I'm trying to do some good time blasting on House of the Dead 2, but my POS isn't even allowing that now.
I have heard of this "resetting Dreamcast" glitch, but I don't think that's what's going on with mine. See, I've never had an instance where the DC reset mid-gameplay. My infuriating problem is that the goddamn DC doesn't boot correctly. When I first turn the DC on, it doesn't acknowledge the CD I have in there. This I know, as I don't hear the sound of it spinning inside and making electronic noises to signify that it's booting up. All I hear is the hiss of its air ducts. I have it on Auto Start as well, but going up to Play just gives me a stupid "Please Insert Game Disc" message.
So I open the lid, and I close it, and it checks for a CD. My CD only spins for about a second and then winds down as my DC stops checking for it. The game still isn't on. Open lid. Please wait. No dice. Open lid. Please wait. No worky. Open. Wait. DENIED. FUCKING DAMMIT.
So I even resort to turning off the power and restoring it, and even opening my lid, turning the power on then, and closing it a split-second after the DC activates. I could go on for this about twenty times over before the DC actually bothers to give whatever game I have in there a good examination and load it up.
However, I am convinced that it does not even function for the earlier DC games, such as Sonic Adventure, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, and as I said before, House of the Dead 2. Thus, I've been contemplating getting another one from eBay for a while.
... only... I've heard that some importing methods don't work with Dreamcasts made later in the system's lifespan... so I have a quandary here.
Long story short, I would like for three questions to be answered:
1. Are there methods of importing DC games that do not care about the year and month the DC model was manufactured?
2. Is there any way to repair this problem?
3. Should I try to fix it, or should I just get another one?
I thank anyone in advance who could help me out here. :)
