A Destineer Studios representative today confirmed that the company would publish Taito Legends 2 for the PlayStation 2 and Taito Legends Power-Up for the PlayStation Portable in the US. As for the Xbox and PC editions of the game released overseas, the representative said that Destineer is not announcing domestic releases for those right now.

Taito Legends 2 is headlined by a number of sequels to the company's classic games, including Puzzle Bobble 2 (Bust-A-Move Again in the US), Space Invaders '95, Space Invaders DX, Elevator Action Returns, and Nastar (Rastan 2). It also contains a wealth of shoot-'em-ups, including G Darius, Darius Gaiden, Insector X, Ray Storm, and more.

The lineup for Taito Legends Power-Up features some overlap with its console counterpart, as well as games like Rastan Saga, the original Space Invaders, and New Zealand Story. It also contains four recently remade versions of Taito games, including The Legend of Kage and Cameltry.

The first Taito legends barely had any good games in it but this one not only has Elevator Action Returns and G Darius, it has the comedy Violence Fight option!

It's nice to hear of a confirmed release, and I didn't know about the PSP version, so that's cool too.

The PS2 version is $10 at Best Buy. Great price imo.

AWESOME!! The original collection is one of the best collections I have ever played. It has so many great games on it, and I wasn't even familiar with more than half of the games. The same is for this one. I am really looking forward to this.

Blame it on the Xbox's all but dead status, unfortunately.

Ehh, there was a single game on the first collection that I kinda liked playing (Ninja Kids) but the Capcom Collection 2 was more fun.

If it was coming out on XBox I'd have to pass.

Taito Legends Power Up for the PSP was already released in the UK (dunno about Japan, I've only ever seen it Euro), maybe I should head out and pick it up now. Though maybe it'll be slightly different in the US release, the current package looks really nice.

Count me in i wanna get it for the PS2.

I was worry if it would get a domestic release or not.

I remember it was listed for a March release then it change to TBA.

Glad to know a publisher came through finally.

Now if they could just get a release date for it... i realy want it for the,Legend Of Kage.

Heh my, avatar should have gave that away all ready... as being one of my favorite titles from Taito.

If you mean the Japanese versions, keep them, they are better than the Western releases ;)

For starters the new Volume 2s in Japan have both "Operation" games, Rainbow Islands Plus and Chase HQ...

Nice to see that this release has the original Qix on it. :rocker:

I think the last compilation to include this game was Taito Memories for N-Gage, which quietly fell off the face of the Earth.

EDIT: Might have to import a v.2, since it has CHASE H.Q. (!!)

An arcade version of Insector X! I've only played the Genesis version (to death...back in the day). I will definitely be picking this up. Please let this be $19.99...I can't stand $29.99 retro compilations (Tecmo Classic Arcade...cough...cough). Great news.

EB is listing $19.99 and May 7th as the release date for both versions (Good sign I would think, was worried the PSP version would be $30 like some collections like Sega Genesis Collection have been on the PSP).

I'll be getting both versions, already imported the Xbox version from Europe but the 4 different games on the PS2 version and stuff like Space Dungeon on the PSP version make them worthwhile.

Now if we'd just get Intellivision Lives for the DS, I'd be happy. Or least until I hear about Europe getting a new Taito Legends like Japan just got 2 of...

So did anyone try to pre-order this at EB/GS? They must have some no pre-order policy for budget titles, because it wasn't on their pre-order list (I went there to pre-order Raiden III as well). Oh well, this is one of those titles that will be in plentiful abundance at major retailers like Circuit City and Best Buy for months to come.

I also need to pick up the Volume II Taito Memories Imports. They're worth it alone for the included TATE orientations.

Honestly, I own a goodly amount of compilations and the like... Sadly, I only enjoy about 15% of the games... Whether it is an issue of controller scheme, or other issue. Nothing beats the original... I'll still buy it of course.

I can tell you that I failed twice at trying to pre-order this at my local Gamestop. There is no PS2 version in their system. I explained that the game is even listed on their website, but it turns out it's really the PSP version. It looks like it's going to be Amazon FTW.

Edit: I guess Amazon doesn't have this listed either. Hmmm.

Like I stated in an earlier post, GameStupid/EBumgames doesn't take pre-orders for budget priced titles anymore. I have no clue as to their reasoning for this, but it's their policy. I remember them not having Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 and Sega Genesis Collection up for pre-order, even on the week before their respective releases.

I hate when they do that, those stores don't care about classic compliations. I swear, if it doesn't say "HALO" or "GTA" on the box...the marketing for GameStop/EB Games don't give a flying flip..

Out of the online stores I frequent, none have the PS2 version listed yet. I found somewhere that had the PSP version listed, but I forget where it was and I can't seem to turn anything up now.

Searching " 'Taito Legends 2' PS2 " on Google Products only returns two matches: DVDStars (they want $33.49 for it, allegedly region 1) and BlahDVD (a PAL release).

I really doubt this game is being released on the alleged date. I don't think I've ever seen any game which has been so utterly ignored by retail. What was the source for the May 7th date, because I think it's a complete fabrication.

IGN, Gamespot, and 1Up have recieved preview copies from Destineer and released previews, Destineer (The publisher) announced the PS2 and PSP game were coming this month just a few weeks ago. The ESRB recently rated these for North America. The release date is listed in EB's system and elsewhere.

I guess we'll find out tomorrow. Isn't a Monday an odd day for a new game release, though?

While there are always expections, typically new games will be released on Monday (same with movies). Due to the laws of physics though, they won't reach store shelves until Tuesday at the earliest (there have been several major games that have been getting shipped out on Tuesday/Wednesday this past year though).

For a "C list" title like this though, Gamestop/EBGames probably won't be seeing it until the end of the week if it's being distributed by Gamestop itself. If Destineer FedExes it it should make it Tuesday afternoon.

It's kind of interesting to see how the Taito compilations have unfolded, both here and in Japan. Japan had already received two Taito compilations titled Taito Memories Joukan and Taito Memories Gekan before the west would see it's first - Taito Legends. Japan would also see two more compilations, Taito Memories II Joukan and Taito Memories II Gekan, before the west would receive Taito Legends 2. But as you begin to analyse the rosters for each of the compilations, you start to notice some interesting facts. While it's true that Japan got two compilations totaling 50 games before Taito Legends arrived here with a mere 29 games, the west got 17 games that didn't arrive until 2 years later in Japan. Taito Legends also got 6 games that didn't come out on any of the four compilations in Japan!

Here's the timeline for the Taito compilations...
Taito Memories Joukan (JPN) 07/28/05
Taito Memories Gekan (JPN) 08/25/05

Here's a breakdown of the Taito Legends compilation...

By the time Taito Legends 2 rolled out in the west, the Japanese had already received all 4 compilations of 25 games each for a total of 100 games. The two western compilations would total 68 games. Well, the only citations I can find for a release date are second hand sources which state "Q2" or "May". I think someone made the May 7th date out of whole cloth and the others quoting that as the date just copied it from the incorrect source.

The Gamestop/EB websites are where "May 7th" release date came from. They've now been changed to May 14.

You're likely right, its not the first time they've made up a release date so they can start taking preorders online.

I just hope it makes it out since I'm not about to mod my PS2 so I can import it, and I'd like the PS2 exclusives that weren't on the Xbox sequel.

You can't preorder it, EB/GS doesn't consider it important enough so they're only taking preorders online, its not even in the computer system for the stores.

Seconded.

I have to say that this is the one game I've actually been looking forward to this year... if it doesn't make it out, I'm going to be seriously disappointed.

That's fine. I wouldn't buy anything from them even if they were the only ones who sold it.

now all we need is Siren 2. i already have it for PAL, but releasing it here would expose the series better and perhaps give the future games more money to work with.

The impression I'm getting from you humans: EB/GS/G. Crazy are the only places to buy this game. So then there's no point in waiting like I did for the 1st legends. (Wall-mart had it)

This is a different publisher entirely. You could (can?) find the 1st Taito Legends everywhere. Circuit City even had it for $7.99 around Easter.

It depends on where you buy it from, I couldn't tell you what you'll be paying for it. I got my copy on Ebay for $15.
