Default A quick paint job and a region mod

So I just picked up a Sharp NES television (the TV with an NES built right in), and it came with 2 black controllers that only came with that TV. They look really cool and I wanted to use them on a regular toaster deck, but didn't like the way they looked together. I had 5 toasters around, so I decided I wanted to throw a paint job on one of them to match the controllers. I took it apart, bent back the pins and clipped the lock out chip, then I threw 3 coats of black spray paint for plastic (like Krylon fusion) on it and then a couple of clear coats. The pic isn't great, but I think the system looks pretty solid with the controller:

I'm gonna go back and throw a blue LED in there soon, my buddy has a bunch but he is on vacation. I'll update with more pics after. Works great too, fires up on the first try. Quick side note, is there anyway to separate the power and reset buttons from the electronics? I don't mind the look of the system, but I think if I had the chance I would have done those black too. What do you guys think?

There should be a way to remove the board with the power and reset buttons on it. The reason that I say that is that a while back I saw some place bulk selling the boards. I would have thought about painting the buttons red to match the controller.

Not a bad idea, it would look pretty solid probably. I may take a crack at it, thanks for the suggestion.

What is the text above the AB buttons on the NES Pad? I can't make it out in that picture, and I've never seen a Sharp selling with the original controllers.

They say "game television" on them. Kind weird, they have the exact same model number as regular NES controllers. I popped one open to change the screws because they were a bit rusty, and the chip inside was different than one on a regular controller.

if you remove the two screws holding the board with the power and reset buttons on, you'll be able to pull the buttons right off.

Ok, I'll have to try it next time. I unscrewed the small board and removed it, but the buttons seemed to be stuck on the board really good so I didn't want to pull on them really hard in fear of snapping them. I wish I could take better pics, the one I snapped for this thread doesn't do this thing any justice, I really liked the way it came out.

don't try to pull the entire unit off of the circuit board, just grab the grey part that's the actual button and pull it away from the unit

    like so:

Perfect! Thanks for the pic. That is exactly what I tried to do, but I didn't try very hard in fear that the buttons were secured in some way to those spring things and I would break them. Now I will definitely go back and paint them. Thanks for the help.

I'd love to see pictures of the finished product.
