There's still alot of ps2 players out there who haven't adopted into the ps3 cause key titles like metal gear, socom, god of war, and final fantasy haven't surfaced.

Once those games make their way out the ps3's will start flying off the shelves.

Playstation has a fairly loyal fanbase, but problem is getting them off the ps2 and into the ps3, it's taking time and with new franchises like Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, and many others they are building a new studio of games as well.

Sony is taking baby steps for sure, but the way I see it they are focusing more on in house development which is what should save their future, and honestly make them tops eventually. They are going to have some real heavy hitters this year, and what's cool is it's not just one or two, but at least half a dozen.

They might be behind now, but I see alot of "in development", and this is on top of the key franchises they already have established. They are gonna blow the roof off.

"Home" and "Little Big Planet" will start the ball rolling. Hell, seeing those two titles in action had alot to do with me buying one, I was and still am impressed for what they have planned.

Resistance, Motorstorm, and Dark Kingdom are holding me over fine for now.

Their future looks extremely bright to me, and they seem to be the only company really to be pushing things forward. Though others don't seem to see it this way.

In ten years, we will have a good reflection of how the PS3 did. Right now is not a good time to reflect on a system that has only been on the market a short 6 months. Dont get me wrong, the PS3 has issues, but it wont kill sony. Sony is making bank off of the PS2. Right now they just have to unscrew themselves.

In ten years I see Sony still making a game machine. In ten years, I see the PS3 finally being affordable and being supported still with software.

Terrible start? PS3 sold like 3 million consoles, which is amazing considering the rather lousy games choice and the high price. Just because its not sold out everywhere like the Wii doesnt mean that its selling horribly bad. What do you base "falling out of the console race" on? The console race has just begun, only like 5 months since PS3 got released.

the hardware-loss leader model will not turn sony a profit if the PS3 stays in third place. Howard Stringers insistence on convergence (bluray) shall be seen as the downfall off the PS3. hopefully, every console maker from here on out will learn the lesson from this folly and not shoehorn features into their machines that detract from gaming and/or drastically increase the price of hardware.

i see the PlayStation brand getting sold off or spun off into its own company. sony can arrange a sweetheart deal that gives them royalties on bluray pressing, and divorce themselves from a good portion of the losses. an independent playstation brand will have the freedom to focus on gaming first.

The way I see it sony is taking way to long to make key decisions. Selling out the gate means nothing. Lame duck perception means everything. I remember the dreamcast set the record at launch.

They need to drop the price to 399.99 like yesterday throw out some nice titles and tightenup the playstation store interface. I truly believe gone are the days oh that game came out let me buy the system. Too many games are ported and rehashed consumers are analyzing the whole package. Example I like ninja gaiden sigma the demo was nice and I played it on a hdtv but really after playing ninja gaiden and black is sigma truly that much better to justify 60.00.

The ps3 was years in developement. Sony asked for and arm and a leg.
People and I am one of them feel at 599.99 things should be more on point. Better games better online interface. When the ps2 was at 299.99 the sony base was able to wait for the trickle of games at 600.00 people see it, know about it might like and want it but wont get it.

I wish they would get there act together and drop the price and act with the urgency they need to because what people don't mention is once your systems flutter developers start backing off an taking a wait and see approach. Sure you have msg4 coming down the road but the gamecube had re4 and no real 3rd party support. On that point where are the games sony isn't the only company making games how come there aren't more games on the shelf?

I think Blu-ray is one of the main features of the PS3, definitely not a bad thing
I think if anything it's one of the big things that Sony has done right as well as having a Hard Drive on each PS3,

I see the PS3 doing quite well but it needs to drop it's price, I think your wrong by saying it's a bad thing though. especially in 10 years we will have seen the winner in this generation console wars which I still think will be Sony but who knows what may happen.

but how bout the folly of MS not having a hard drive in it's sku's? which is one of the biggest mistakes of this generation so far.

Recent developments have led me to think that the PS3 is going to be the top console, eventually, once again, at least until the other consoles appear. People want to see Toy Story in real-time; I guess it comes down to that. The idea of a fake world that looks nearly as compelling as the real one is hard to discount, and certainly has piqued my sense of adventure.

In terms of negatives, the other consoles simply don't offer the same disc size and strength of the main processing array. The hard drive will be an issue, but despite the hardships that's causing developers now they will eventually start forcing people to use one. Microsoft's Xbox brand reputation might not suffer much of a hit, though, if they bring the cost of the hard drive down radically in time for the first must-have games with mandatory hard drive use. That seems to me the smart thing to do.

They eventually will have to face the disc size issue, but dual-layer DVDs are probably quite cheap and with some good content pruning you should be able to get a 50 GB game down to a handful of dual-layer DVDs (say three of 'em, maybe less). The extra heft will probably appeal to collectors

Nintendo is catering to a niche, and it needed to be done, but I don't think it's the console for me personally. I will be happy as long as they are bringing out fun games that don't make your intestines squirm, however; it's a little bit of sunshine in a world dominated by Clive Barker's Jericho, Resident Evil 5, and Half-Life Episodes.

This topic is the brainchild of the youngster who keeps plugging his crappy sega message board every five minutes.

Sony isn't going anywhere, the PS3 is solid and has a great future lineup. In 10 years it'll be like it is now, MS and Sony competing, Nintendo making niche stuff that is more unique and suited for short burst gameplay.

Well, I think unforseen events, legal maneuvering, and technology can shake things up. The problem with Microsoft right now is that they don't have the vast in-house competence in hardware that Sony does, but they are making strides in that area, and Sony has been downsizing lately given that many of their businesses have been underperforming. Both companies have been forced to rely in part on other companies for some of the main components, namely CPU, memory, and GPU.

The problem with Sony right now is that they don't have the vast in-house competence in software, developer tools, and infrastructure that Microsoft does, but they are making progress, and OpenGL isn't going anywhere given that the market for a non-Microsoft alternative API is as strong as ever. Both companies have found some help from outside companies that market graphical engines; for example the Unreal Engine and Gamebryo.

I think one of the major less-noticed issues is that while Microsoft may have great software tools and a strong game stable, so does Sony - and Sony has extra ability to leverage hit movies to move games (we note that a crappy game based on Cars was a massive seller recently). You want to play Casino Royale or Spiderman 3? I doubt you'll find those games on a Microsoft platform. That could end up being a killer. Sure, the games won't be Goldeneye or Ninja Gaiden/Shinobi, but the people who made those games will end up developing for the PS3 because that's where the action is.

People thought the same thing about Atari twenty-five years ago and Sega fifteen years ago.

For what it's worth, Wikipedia's article for Ken Kutaragi states:

According to the Wall Street Journal, Sony is now dealing with $2 billion in losses related to its video games division over the past year ending March 31.

If people make their decition of PS3 because of what this guy says, well.. thats their choice, but i dont see how he gives the PS3 a bad name. I'm also sure this video is made just to provoke and its very sarcastic.
