Nes flashing problem.

Ok, my girlfriends nes is flashing green and not loading up the game. Not the usual other colours I've been reading about that indicate a contact problem. Though I'm guessing odds are that it's the 72 pin connector that is the problem. A friend suggested just picking up another nes for 5$ at a flea market but I'm thinking that if I do that the contacts probably won't last that long after I get it. So the main question is are the replacement 72 pin connectors worth getting or should I just get another nes and wait for it to die as well?

Best solution: Buy a top-loading NES. They can be found rather easily on Ebay.

Less EXPENSIVE solution: Get a new 72-pin connector.

get the connector. top loading units aren't that great and are actually quite expensive on ebay considering.

Top loaders don't have AV outs, so you would have to mod it (unless you run RF). They also have "a poorer video signal compared to the old NES, due to improper decoupling. There is a fix to this, but without such a fix, the new NES normally has faint vertical bars every 8 pixels."

so, basically the top loaders are inferior and cost more. you can get a 72 pin connector for chaep and be happier.

I'm with stargate on this one. I've put new 72 pins in over 20 NES's. Makes 'em work like new, every time. In my opinion a re-pinned toaster NES is the superior NES deck for actual use.

Replacing the 72-pin is quick and cheap. I make it a point to swap it out on any second hand NES I buy (they all need it). You have to remember to keep your games clean though, the connector is only half of the equation.

I did send you a working cart, which I know was working this time since I took the time to test it, after you said you couldn't get the first one to work. You never emailed me or anything to tell me you never recieved it. How am I supposed to know you didn't get it if you didn't tell me?

No.. I'm pretty sure I PM'd you after a few weeks of not getting anything through Atari Age, and you read it because I saw the PM /was/ sent later. Kind of odd how you never seemed to show up on the site after that. We'll see if you're going to make good on your word this time though.

I agree that Toploaders have to be one of the most overrated gaming systems of all time.

I've had one for over a year & hardly used it. When I did, the verticle lines pissed me off so bad, I'd either go back to my toaster NES or emulation on my Dreamcast.

My Toploader is now on eBay if you're really wanting to overpay for one.
