To be this good takes AGES
To be this great takes SEGA!!
I didn't think there was an order. Most of the games don't seem to take place in the same universe. They just have similar gameplay style and familiar plot points like the Mana Tree and the Sword of Mana.
But I don't think every Mana Tree is the same Mana Tree. It's like Cid is to Final Fantasy. There's one of them in every game, but each game is still in a different continuity.
See also, "The Legend Of Zelda"
It goes like this.
Seeken Detesntu (Final Fantasy Adventure)
Secret of Mana
Seeken Detesntu 3
Legend of Mana
Children of Mana
Dawn of Mana
That's it for the chronological release order. There is no storyline chrono... too lazy to type it out order
thats not quite true... the is a connected story line in LoZ. some Links are the same, some are not. wind waker points this out. for instance, links' awakening is a direct sequal to link to the past. there are others too.
as for the mana series, yes they are like the FF series, some similarities but all seperate entities.
I know I'm changing the subject, but as long as we're on the topic of Mana games, has anyone played Dawn of Mana yet? I haven't seen it discussed on the board at all.
Most of the reviews for the game have been really bad, but I like the Mana series, and I've been considering getting it anyway just because it's a Mana game.
Sword of Mana on GBA is a remake of the original titled Final Fantasy Adventure here in the US... it was woefully overlooked, for what it is.
I don't know if there is a chronological order to Mana. It seems to be a common tale that occurs in different realities (perhaps parallel?) each incarnation. They seem to have dropped the ball with Dawn. It looks nice and all but, I'd rather have seen something simular to Odin Sphere. The world is lacking 2D action-RPGs and I see Dawn as an abortion of possibility for the comfort and safety that 3D nets you these days.
I'm fairly amped up for Heroes however. Taking the series RTS might be a good move... but then again... time will tell.

Link's Awakening is a sequel to LttP and Majora's Mask is a sequel to OoT. Generally they go in pairs
I got 15 hours into Dawn of Mana before I chunked it off my terrace. It's KH2 without a solid story and it brought the pain!
Shame on Square/Enix - that's two in a row with major suckage.
Fear your thoughts because they become your words
Fear your words because they become your actions
Fear your actions because they become your habits
Fear your habits because they become your character
Fear your character because it becomes your destiny
Therefore: Thinking and nurturing positive thoughts, at any point in your life, can change your destiny.
Despite what the manual says, this point seems to frequently be in dispute, even in official interviews with the developers.
I've read some pretty nice fan-written chronologies that weave fairly consistent, logical, and entertaining narratives using terms like Zelda the Second and Link the Third.

Link's Awakening could fit with any of the Zelda continuities.
Or none of them.
Note all the Mana games is really Final Fantasy Gaiden. So it is like.
Secret Of Mana --------The remake is the same thing but they remove the Cocobot and have alternative stories.
--------------------------Legend Of Mana Then again this game was sappose to be the real IV
Secret Of Mana II
Secret Of Mana III
Secret Of Mana IV
Zelda: OTT ( Zelda Garden )Link's Awakening could fit with any of the Zelda continuities.
Zelda: LTTP ( Zelda 16-bit/ Desert Magic/Garden )
Zelda ( Zelda Desert Magic )
Zelda II ( MMOOOoorREee Zelda Desert Magic / Oceania )
Zelda: LA ( Zelda Islander / Oceania )
Think about the series like this.
Garden- before Ganons uprising
Desert- The Days of Ganons Rule
Ocean- The times after Ganons downfall
The series moves around Ganons Rule Timeline. Generally Nintendo forgot about the Zelda order long time ago. After Zelda: MM the series was derailed.
The original game was a sort of Final Fantasy (the original title was Final Fantasy Gaiden: Seiken Densetsu, or something like that). But after that the series went their separate ways.
No, it was just Final Fantasy Adventure in North America, and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest in Europe. In Japan it was just Seiken Densetsu and it had no direct relation to Final Fantasy. (Presumably the alternate names were just a marketing thing.)

Holy freaking crap! Why does GameFAQs say for the Japanese name...

Huh. Well, that's a new one on me. I have been schooled this day.
(I do not regard Gamefaqs's release data as particulary reliable, but in this case Wikipedia backs it up.)
