Default Tell me about Nintendo ROB.

I've never experienced ROB. (I don't know how the hell I own a Gyromite cartridge) It only played Gyromite and Stackup, right?

How do you play Gyromite? I know it has something to do with having the gyros spin long enough to keep a gate open or something. And I don't know anything about Stackup. Aren't his eyes sensors, like the Zapper?

I've been thinking of getting a ROB lately, first I just wanted one to display with my Nintendo stuff, but I'm contemplating on whether or not to drop the heavy cash for a complete ROB with all the parts so I can play with it. But is it one of those gimmicks that's neat, but not something I'll want to play twice?

I'd just find a non working one for decoration.

As bad-assed as R.O.B. is, his games are pretty boring. And Gyromite can be played without R.O.B.

It took two minutes just to get passed two columns, that would've ruined Gyromite for me and that was one of my favorite games when i was younger.

While you'll never play an actual game with ROB for more than a level or two, it is pretty cool to have the gyros and working spinner. those things really will spin for about 5 minutes.

As for how Gyromite works, well most of the time you just have ROB pick up a gyro and hold it down on one of the pads so a column moves out of the way. When there are two columns, you have to spin one up and set it down, then get the other and hold it down onto the column. All the while there are little creatures running walking about that will kill you, though you can distract them with a carrot or something. I don't know how stack-up is played, those links above are probably more clear anyway.

ROB works on the same tech as a light gun. The screen flashes in a certain pattern when you do certain 'keystrokes' and he interprets the flashes. Anyone know if he'll work on a flat-panel? I always heard the light gun didn't work because of some delay, but that wouldn't be an issue for ROB, since he doesn't directly communicate back to the nes. I'll try it out sometime unless someone knows for sure.

It's much easier to play Gyromite without ROB. I just played it by putting an unoccupied thumb on one of the two buttons, depending on which pillar needed to be moved.
Gimmie a game, I'll either love it, or pimp-smack it.

    Nailed it.

He's a cool decoration, a neat piece of nostalgia. But beyond that, he's pretty useless. I mean, I suppose you could use him as intended to play Gyromite and Stack Up, but I don't know why you'd want to subject yourself to such unorthodox torture.

I got a deluxe set as a kid-and played with ROB a couple times. He now resides strictly as a display piece.
RIP bargora, you will be greatly missed. That is how we do things on Giedion Prime.

I think I got to level 5 in gyromite of course that was when I first got him and I never set him up again. The games aren't that fun but I was talking on nesdev and there was some intrest in making a ROB game.
ROB and the light gun only work on CRTs, cause LCDs suck IMHO.

So who's gonna do a Gyromite speed run actually using ROB? C'mon, you know you wanna.

Hmm... Tom Duncan has 1,091,830 on TwinGalaxies, and he's the only guy on the board.
