WOW That gives buyers some serious piece of mind while eliminating the being able to be a target by the competition. I hope the competetors match it.

The catch is that the 3 year warranty only covers systems that have the 3 red lights issue. If anything else happens or you get a different error code, it isn't covered. Still good news though. I was getting ready to purchase the extended 2 year warranty in November when my original 1-year is up. Guess I'll pass now.
Talk about a great reason to buy a new 360.
Sony had these exact same problems with the dreaded PS2 disc read error and did absolutely nothing for their customers. They clearly know a big part of the "game" here is loyalty and trust.
Good going Microsoft, you've gained more of my respect as a gamer and a consumer.
Best news I've heard all day.

Now if they'd just drop the damn price. Apparently the PS3's price is being dropped $100 according to Circuit City.
Answer them, Microsoft!
I wouldn't call bringing up the Disc Read Error "bashing." Facts are facts after all. Also, I own a PS3 too -- and actually think Sony learned from those problems. I've read the PS3 has around a 1% defect rate -- pretty damn good for a new product.
Did you read that anywhere but a message board?
Very cool new policy.

Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

I wonder if Gamestop will change their 3rd party warranties to be three year as well otherwise is there really even a value to them anymore?
YAY!!! I'm covered, again!!
But fortunately, I haven't needed it yet.
Now they're saying this will cost Microsoft $1 Billion:
