    Default Region modding a TG-16?

Since I'm not willing to spend over $100 for a converter or get a PC Engine console, I've decided to just go ahead and mod my TG-16 instead. I know that you have to cut some lines on the HuCard port and wire them up to a switch or custom-made board, but how exactly would I go about doing this correctly?

On a side note, how do you remove the motherboard of a TG-16 from the top case?

Can't help you much on the first query, I vaguely remember the need for a switch that alternates 8 (or more) points at once. But to get to the TG-16 mobo you have to desolder the metal shielding before you can access the screws holding it in place. It's practically welded in there.

Gah, forget it. I just found some info on the region mod and the amount of soldering and wiring work is too much for me. I think now I'll just get a cheap Core Grafx or maybe even a converter (if I can find one at a decent price).

If you don't know about him already, Dean over at MultiMods is very knowledgeable in the area of NEC consoles. His site is http://www.multimods.com. He mods and sells NEC consoles of all kinds. Great guy to deal with, too.

He's been MIA for a long time now. I've been waiting to get in touch with him for a while.

OSG now offers the mods as well. They are labour intensive though, and are not a $40 mod. But we've done many, in both DUO's and TG16's. E-mail for more info for anyone who is interested.

Dean at MultiMods is the master. However, he has a real life and a job that has nothing to do with working on NEC consoles, so he can be busy. OSG's full time efforts are video game consoles, and we treat it it as our livelihood, as that's what it is. =)

Frankly, you can't go wrong either way.

Google "8PDT switch" and a couple of vendors will come up. I really dislike mounting those switches. What a PITA.

I modded my Duo to play imports, but I used a couple of 2-1 multiplexors so I only needed a regular switch. I did, however, have to wire up a circuit board for the chips I used, so it may have been more work. Either way, it's a huge pain in the butt.

I know what you mean. That's why it's not a 'cheap' service to have done. On top of that, you're often working on difficult to replace consoles as well (DUO, SuperGraFX), so the pressure is high as well.

That said, most everyone, once they have it done are very happy with the universal abilities of their console.
