The demo of vampire rain was so damn bad (on 360) that I cant imagine how mad people that bought the game were without trying it out or looking into it at all before purchase.

Disgaea 3 will probably be a future purchase for me, mainly because there are sooo many other games coming out this year that I cant buy a 100+hr rpg right now...

I'm still trying to decide whether or not I want this game. I've never played the first two, and I can't usually get into SRPGs. In addition to those two points, I'm already going to have a ton of RPGs to play in the form of Too Human, Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery and Fallout 3. Maybe I'll pick this up during the Toys R Us sale in October or something.

How accessible is the series for people like myself who are hardcore JRPG fans, but aren't very good at SRPGs?

Well...the Disgaea 3 guide is 368 pages long if that gives you any indication. I'd say the Disgaea series can be complex if you want it to be (i.e. taking your characters to lvl. 9999) or very simple (if you choose to just play the story). Keep in mind...Disgaea is the text book DEFINITION of "level grind". It's fun grinding...but you can easily spend 100's of hours leveling up and gaining insane abilities if you so choose.

I'm looking foward to Disgaea 3 in a couple of weeks and definately picking it up. I'm hoping I can finally finish Persona 3 before I pick it up. Very doubtful though as I'm about 80hrs into it.

In stores tomorrow, Tuesday, August 26th.

Good news from people that already have the Japanese version:

Much less grinding this time around. Where people could spend 500 - 1000 hours in Disgaea and Disgaea 2 leveling up....Disgaea 3 is maxing out at 200 hours. Also getting your character to level 9999 can take as little as 3 - 5 minutes. I have no idea how.

I dont see why someone would spend over 100 hours grinding. You can play another game in that time! Or even go outside.

Disgaea is like a fighting game; you can play it pretty much forever. I put over 200 hours into the first Disgaea over the course of three years. It was my relaxation game.

Yeah, I actually loved the grinding, because it didn't feel like a grind. It always felt new somehow. I'm almost disappointed to hear that they've cut back quite a bit, but maybe that means I'll actually finish one now (100+ hrs into 1 and not even close).

The point of Disgaea IS grinding. It's always fun and still enjoyable well after 100 hours. Like mentioned above, you can come back to this game over the course of several years. There's so many ways (and things) to level up...the grinding never gets tedious.

Just picked up my copy today (the usual opened copy from gamestop) but I got a soundtrack with it so it was alright since I got a bonus. I haven't played it yet but I am hoping that they keep a bunch of grinding and depth in the game. I like games where grinding is key. Games like Lost Odyssey where there basically is no grinding, while a good game, just isn't as good to me.

edit: just played it last night and think it is pretty good so far and has plenty of grinding in it already. The playing field is pretty nice looking and there is some funny dialouge in it. The only thing I can think of is the character sprites don't seem to be as defined as I thought they were going to be. Not the design of the characters themselves but just the sprites look a tad blocky. Other than that its great.
