Makai Kingdom
Tactics
Phantom Brave
All are average games, nothing too special.

I would say the best of the three is La Pucelle Tactics because of its simplicity. After playing Disgaea 1 and 2, Makai Kingdom and Phantom Brave...it's nice to go back to a (somewhat) basic SRPG. This is the same reason Stella Deus was so refreshing. The insane complexity of Disgaea 2 can be a lot of fun, but it's nice to take it easy once and awhile.

Only tactics could be numbered. Phantom Brave wasnt exactly a pleasure for me but I found it better at the very least. I have Makai Kingdom and even have the strategy guide but have yet to get around to it. Got hooked on Disgaea 2 and never got back to trying it. Tactics could have been good but sadly getting it after Disgaea it just felt overtly simple. Yes, I realize it came out in Japan before Disgaea did and that only in our side of the ocean did they change releases but in spite of this it still feels lacking. Lots of the great options that came about later that would help speed up leveling and such. Phantom wasnt a charming game by any means though make no mistake. I eventualy gave up on it simply because I was tired of senseless power leveling. What's the point of leveling 5-10 levels for hours if your only beating a single stage?
Would it be fair to say then that if Disgaea 1 + 2 were added to the list, that they could come out as 1st and 2nd?

Hands down I'm certain Disgaea 1 would be considered the best with 2 being arguable at number 2. Problem is, people have somewhat considered that to be NIS's flagship series. I'm of the mind that they did wonders with the first Disgaea but not so much greatness was in the second. Perhaps it was the story as I enjoyed it about as much as I did tactics. Actualy, I think they were both on par for story.
