Default So, I FINALLY Obtained Fatal Frame....

The disc looks fine, the booklet is fine, the case looks okay, but the top latch is broken and won't clip shut! If I get a new case (JUST the case, not a new front insert), will this ruin its value?
The PS2 cases are mass produced, so I figured it wouldn't. I just want to know for sure.

    I wouldn't think so myself.

Did you finally find it to play it or resell it?

ps2 cases are almost all the same except for some of the first run games many years back (without memory card slots). You'll be fine

That's interesting. I didn't know there were any PS2 cases without a memory card slot. My first game was Dark Cloud and it has one, so I guess maybe ye olde Madden 2001 or something might not have.

I finally bought it for my collection, and to play. I just like really nice looking games. I'm picky when it comes to most used games....

Out of curiosity, how much do you spend for it? I really only ask because I just sold my copy of this game in addition to Fatal Frame II in one lot for $80. I think I did good considering I had less than $20 invested.

Also, I definately think you should replace the outer case if you have a better looking one, I do it all the time. Actually, I am so anal about my cases that when I buy used games that have stickers on them and stuff like that, I replace them with those Jam Packs that can be found at Target and Best Buy for $1 - $2 each. I like to have nice cases.

Congrats on the new purchase, it's a really cool game!

    It was $30.
I know exactly how you feel about the cases. I have turned down many rare games due to poor conditions of the case. I guess I'll go ahead with the "swap trick" then.
I'm going to buy a very cheap PS2 game with a nice case, then switch it with FF's, then return the cheap game because I didn't like it.
(I'm doing this with used junk, no one will complain)

this may be beneath some, but if you go to blockbuster after they close you can get hundreds of gamecube, xbox, and ps2 cases for free out of their dumpster. I used to go looking for dvds (yes they throw out movies), but would sometimes pick these up as well. once I had a couple hundred I started passing them up. I figured that would probably cover me for awhile!

as long as the case looks identical, it shouldn't lower the value at all. I've swapped case more times than I can count and there is no difference except a better looking case.

I got FF II at the TRU sale a year or so ago, have just beat the first boss and haven't touched it since, it is just too scary.

Well, my trick has gone good so far. I found a used copy of DBZ2 that basically looked like it was opened and never touched. Bought it, swapped cases, now Fatal Frame basically looks brand-new.
I'm taking DBZ2 back though, it served it's purpose.

I really wish that Sony would sell empty new condition PS2 cases online for a buck or two, like Nintendo does with Gamecube / DS cases. I've been buying games < 5 dollars to use as replacement cases.

Red face heres what you do

I did the same thing..if you look through the bins at gamestop...the old Madden footballs are like 99 cents. I buy them just for the cases....then give the game away!

That game is hard to track down. It's worth finding tho.

    The trick worked wonderfully!
Fatal Frame looks beautiful, and the old case now belongs to the DBZ2 game which is now back at GS. (I got my money back on it! )
Anyway, Fatal Frame will now sit on my shelf of rare and expensive games. (I'm still playing it, of course)

I just got a fatal frame in the mail yesterday in a lot of games I got off of ebay. it actually had one of the cases without the memory card holder. the other copy I have does have the memory card slot though. I don't know if the card-free case was a replacement, or if it actually came like that. hmmm... maybe there are case variations?

I'm kind of suspicious of PS2 cases without memory card slots. As far as I know, the only games confirmed to originally come in cases without memory card slots are some of the later Jampacks (Sony's 5 dollar retail demo discs). Every game I've bought for the PS2, from the launch titles up until today, has had a memory card slot.
