Default Official CGE 2K7 Quote Thread

Post the funny / outlandish quotes you overheard at CGE2K7 here!

"You guys are the official CGE Smugglers."

DP Member 1: "Hey do you drink at all?"
DP Member 2: "Ohhhh yeah I drink like a fish!"
    DP Member 1: "Really"
DP Member 2: "Nah, I am just kidding."

"How are you the hungriest, and ended up at the back of the line of 13 people?"

    "Where is Kamino?"

    "Who is Fighter-17?"

I can't really say specific lines since I'd be butchering them, but at the CGE party when Nicola and his friend were about to leave and the ensuing 30+ minutes of conversation were some of the best drunken babble/fun i've ever been a part of.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

"Buy my book! If you're a vendor or dealer, it will help you price your games!"

    - from the guy in the trade room who was attempting to sell his 'guide' for $55. Did he realize who was running the show?

This isn't a quote but one of the funniest things at CGE was when Cav and I watched a male DP member (no names mentioned) run into the ladies room. Two women then walked out with disgusted looks on their faces. We never saw the person leave the bathroom and yet when we sent our resident female in to get him, he wasn't there!

That's weird because his book is NOT a price guide.

John and I got a kick out of hanging out on the balcony overlooking the show floor and the museum.

Friday during museum set-up: "YOU THERE! Worker! Remove those empty boxes from the show floor!"

Saturday during show, in museum: "YOU THERE! No straw hats allowed in the museum!"

A blog entry shall follow this weekend, elaborating, but these quotes stuck with us for the whole weekend.

Other quotes that will mean nothing until later detailed:

    "Cashew?"

    "Nice Box."

"Remember my theory of 'E', Larry. When your car's gas gage hits 'E', have you ever noticed you go a little faster, a little further than you expect it to? Well that's how we all work at CGE."

That final quote was followed by "What a load of complete bullshit."

    To be continued

To John Hardie: "Do you hoard ROMs?"
To John Hardie (again): "So what about AtariAge?"

From RetroYoungen to Fighter17: "I may not be handsome but I'm still better looking than you!"

Actually, my exact reply to that statement was, "That has to be the biggest piece of cock-a-mamie bullshit I've ever heard"... a sentiment I still hold true as my aching bone recover.

Sorry for the thread-jack, workers, return to your boxes...

That's weird because his book is NOT a price guide.
A situation that happened all weekend:

The_4th_Survivor wanders around the CGE grounds and runs into rolenta. After some good conversation, rolenta convinces The_4th_Survivor that his book, "ABC to the VCS" would be a good purchase. The_4th_Survivor agrees to buy the book, but at a later time.

Throughout the following 48 hours, the following had instances had occurred; DISCLAIMER: all of the events are somewhat true, but are definitely exaggerated. :P

    * T4S is walking down the hall and runs into rolenta who is in a corner using the phone booth. rolenta gestures over to T4S and says "My book is at the booth. I'll see you there!"

    * T4S decides that a nice buffet dinner is in order, so he proceeds to the Riviera Hotel's awesome buffet court. Not even 15 minutes into fis first plate of food, T4S hears a voice from across the way, which belongs to rolenta; "Hey 4th Survivor! I'm watching you!". T4S then proceeds to put on his sunglasses, nods over at rolenta and then leaves the buffet court in quick haste.

    * Nearing the end of the expo, T4S runs into rolenta yet again who greets him with "4th Survivor! My book is still...." at which point T4S simply says "Fine, FINE! I'll buy your crummy, #@%@ing book!". Once at the Good Deal Games booth, T4S reluctantly parts with his hard earned money (working for Umbrella isn't easy) and buys rolenta's book.

    * The_4th_Survivor leaves Las Vegas and escapes yet again, with his life.

    LMAO

    j/k

Even though I did run into rolenta a few times, I was interested in buying his book, especially after he explained to me what it was about while we were in line waiting to buy "The Last Ninja" and "N.E.R.D.S." at the Atari2600.com booth.

I must say that it's definitely one of the better video game 'database' types of books I've read in a long time. Good, useful information for trying to find out exactly what those old and rare 2600 VCS games were about in the first place.

I even got rolenta to sign my copy. Always cool to have an author sign the book they wrote.

Upon meeting Sothy in person for the very first time (paraphrased and possibly only something a select few will even get).

Sothy: So I was expecting you to show up with your hair up in buns or something.
    Me: Uhhhhh.

Was I standing there when he said this or was he just saying it all day? The book looked interesting but not $55 interesting.

During the auction, they were about to auction off the Big Boss/Naked Snake-1/1 scale (about 6' tall) statue that Chris Bieniek had brought in.

John Hardie: Up next is the Solid Snake statue.

*everyone looks back and gasps can be heard*

John Hardie: I wonder how the winner will get that thing home?

The_4th_Survivor: Carry on luggage! Priority Mail Flat Rate Box!

    *crowd laughs*

    Pre-CGE quote:

"Oh silly Dave! In Hardie-land there is no rush. He's probably sipping tea right now. Gives me a stroke every year!"

Sean Kelly to Dave G. referring to the show program and my habit of waiting till the last minute for everything.

Actually, what I said was "it will help you sell your games" since each game, now matter how obscure, is given a substantial description/review.

True, my book is not a price guide (I'll leave that to the highly capable DP guys and Video Game Collector Magazine), it's more of a player's guide since it describes every game for every pre-NES system in detail.

Regarding the price, that is entirely up to the publisher, so it was out of my hands. They chose to publish it as a sturdy, deluxe, text book-style hardcover. Several people who purchased a copy (including the man who owns Atari2600.com) have since contacted me and told me how much they are enjoying the book.

Thanks to everyone who bought a copy (and to everyone who put up with my sales pitch).

I think Sean Kelly endlessly referring to me as some variation of "Dinosaur Dude" all weekend was classic in itself.

I have to second Nicola and his friend's conversations at the party. I can't think of any specific quotes that had me laughing....more like the entire thing!

Me to Sean Kelly after the first "50 cent game cattle call" was sounded at the CGE table: "Hey, does that include this Pitcher's Duel cart?"

Sean Kelly, staring at me blankly: "..."

Sorry dude, I had to do it.
