Default Marathon: Durandal-Xbl version gives gamers motion sickness (joystiq.com)

    http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/02/ma...tion-sickness/

Gamers that played First person shooters in the past without suffering motion sickness is now getting motion sickness from playing the xbl version Marathon: Durandal.

Joystiq.com talked to Freeverse's Bruce Morrison and Buce said First, try playing with the "camera bob" option set to on as the lack of default motion tends to make things appear smoother than they already are. Also, if your mother never told you better, try adjusting your seating position. You may be sitting far too close to your set for this odd, stomach churning experience.

Joystiq.com made the comment "aving taken his advice, we can now enjoy this remastered classic with only a mild headache as the side effect. Thanks, camera bob!"

A FPS that causes motion sickness? That's unheard of.

About 50% of the FPS games I play give me motion sickness. For me, I think it's a combination of the frame rate and how fast the movement is. Games like Halo, Metroid Prime and Doom 3 are fine but I get REALLY sick when I play Golden Eye, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, and the original Doom. And I just tried playing Battlefield 2 on PC for the first time last week and I honestly thought I was going to vomit after 30 minutes.

So yeah, I guess I'll be staying away from Marathon.

We've already been discussing this on the XBLA thread. I'll confirm that Marathon made me nauseous after playing the trial version for 5 minutes or so last night. It's definitely one game I won't be buying.

Older FPS's on consoles have had this effect on me in the past. It seems to disappear when I play high-def FPS's (I'm fine playing any 360 FPS). Interesting indeed.

I have never got motion sickness from any game before and I have played alot of fast FPS, however I got motion sickness after an hour of playing, so bad I had a headache and had to stop playing for the nite.

What seems to fix the problem for me though is putting on the head bob and taking the sensitivity down 1 notch, seems to have fixed the problem.

I played through the demo, and didn't have any adverse effects. That included 1 point where I just stood in the middle of the room and spun as fast as I could for over a minute.

    Fun game.

That sucks, but what about the other dozen FPS on Xbox 360??
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!
