Unhappy Sony does what a Crappy China Manufacturer Don't aka China's Ripoffs.

I was surfing the interwebs today and i found this pile of shit.

it says Polystation is the name given to many PlayStation-like Nintendo Entertainment System hardware clones. Most, if not all, of these clones originate from China, and are generally of poor quality. The cartridge slot of these systems is located under the lid which, on a PlayStation, covers the disc drive.

The Polystation and similar consoles are sold under many different names, including PS-Kid, Game Player and Play and Power; there are also a number of variations on the Polystation name such as Polystation II, Polystation III and Super Polystation. Some of these consoles resemble the original PlayStation, others the PSOne redesign, and others the PlayStation 2. Some variations include built-in pirated games, and in many cases these games are hacked; for example, in one version of Super Mario Bros., Mario is replaced by Pikachu.

Polystation packaging often features false claims about the capabilities of the console's hardware; for example, claiming the console outputs stereo sound, when in reality the NES is mono only and clone systems usually feature only a single audio jack. Many feature screenshots of games running on hardware more advanced than the NES, typically Mega Drive, SNES or PlayStation. The number of games built-in is also usually greatly exaggerated, claiming numbers in the hundreds or thousands, where in reality the same games are listed multiple times with slight variations (eg. palette swaps, different sprites, different starting levels)

Damn! i want this pile of crap. just to have it! anybody ever heard of it?

Sure! I've got one! It royally and utterly sucks.

There's several different models, too. If you live near an area with a large Chinese population, you may be able to find some in a store. My hometown has lots of Chinese stores and they sell these, as well as the Power Player / Power Joy systems for $30 or so.

Yep! Saw quite a few of them when I lived in Korea 2001-2002. You could ask boatofcar if they're still around.

I bought a Famiclone called "Episode" which I thought was cool and had a neat light-gun. It had a lot of games built in and it kept me occupied and happy many lonely nights. The day before I went home I mailed it back to the U.S. I haven't played it forever but I still have it. Good times.

You see a lot of these "Poly Stations" etc now due to the amount of molds availble over seas. They obtain these very inexpensive molds and begin making replicas and programming them with bogus software. I remember one was called the Super Station and had a slot to play NES/SNES games under the PSX drive cover. Many times they are a mixture of the cheapest possible manufacturing techniques and cheapest materials readily available. I've heard quite a bit about these systems and the problems they cause. Some have totally unreliable electronical components and some have been known to cause fires due to poor quality. The only system I have ever really liked that has been a clone of sorts was the FC Famiclone that is currently available. Works well, built well, and has add ons like av cable ports.

They're not piles of shit when you can get them for a couple bucks and they come with interesting multicarts with unique Hong Kong original games. Personally I love this bootleg retro electronics stuff.

One of my recent multicart finds has a ton of games... I haven't been able to find any information on this particular cart anywhere. I want to record some videos but I need a second monitor...

Oddly enough, I saw way more familclones at flea markets in the States than I have in Korea. The console scene, at least where I am, is pretty nonexistant outside of the DS, which I see people playing all the time at bus stops

Anyway, wikipedia has a pretty good writeup on famiclones here.

I don't get the title of this thread.
Anyway, I haven't bought any bootleg systems but I have seen one I wanted. it was about the size of one of those new iPod Nano's. I think it had a bunch of NES clones in it. I guess the GB Micro is just as good, if not better, so I never tried to get a hold of one.

All I remember playing was some GBA multicart and one of those clones that looked like an N64 controller (the ones popular in da malls).

I felt pretty dirty playing the flying game where you flew the Japanese WW2 plane and shot down blue (American) planes.

Ah yes, Sky Destroyer. No fear, it's a real Famicom game.

I've never seen the "Polystation" but at my local mall around Christmas two or three years ago. There was a stand that sold an NES clone that had like 300 games built into it or something. I wish I would of had the money to buy it, but I was in college and not working so I was kind of screwed.

I live in Australia and there is a unit available called the Maya DVD-402. It is a DVD/VCD/DIVX/XVID/MP3/WMA player with a built in NES emulator. The unit comes with a CD with 300 games on it and two controllers.

Sounds good so far, especially since it cost only AU$50.

That's where the goodness ends however. The games run at 1/4 of their normal speed and the sound is atrocious. The game disc is actually a VCD which you use to chose the games.

I tried the CD in my PC, as some of the games looked like interesting hacks, however the roms on the disc are .bin format and won't run on my emulator of choice - Nestopia.

    Stay away from this unit.

    Thanks
    Sam

My friends have a Famiclone in the shape of a penguin. You push his beak to turn it on. The controller is shit, but it's wireless and it works. I tried to find a pic of it, but there isn't one on the web. We actually talked about this one in a thread a couple of years ago. They got it in Thailand, I think.

    Me Playing Contra.

This thing is pretty cool. it *emulates* everything perfectly. The analog is fragile(mine broke). And it has rapid fire. (so that means i can beat sky destroyer).... the best game on there is called Formation Z....you can also put an NES game in the back of it and play it off there.

I don't understant the lure of piracy, it's junky cheap and illegal. I like having high quality original carts and systems.

Don't you mean a Famicom cartridge? As for the naming scheme, pretty much all pirate multicarts are like that.

I wonder if by any chance Bio Force Ape is on one of those carts. Even so I wouldn't buy one of those. Pirated games and emuation consoles don't appeal to me much. The only reason I get classic compilation games on console is because it's a legitimate release and sometimes have great add-on features.

The analog isn't meant to be used. It's just decoration.

Also, the system doesn't emulate everything properly, there's some weird sound sometimes and random glitches.
