Default Game Boy Everything: Holding serious value

I'm pretty amazed that of all systems, Game Boy stuff from Game Boy stone age to Game Boy coke mirror is holding value. I'm talking about software here, kiddies. Game Stop gives $5+ for everything outside of ultracommons, and original game boy titles sell for double digits.

I can't say I'm surprised, but it is remarkable. I would have expected to be rejoicing in showers of original game boy games for $1-$4...

I can only hope for a lack of backward compatibility in the next gen handheld system.

As you mentioned, it's probably because they the GB's have always been backward-compatible and so even the old games could still be considered current system titles.

Plus because so many people already have a system to play the older titles, there is more demand because said people can go back and pick up the older titles when they get a urge for some nostalgia, without any additional outlay for hardware.

I just read the article you have linked... good stuff!

BTW, I still keep meaning to get your list for the module. I just can't seem to find time... this week my younger son was in the hospital all week. Gah.

Around here, even the original games (I'm talking Golf, Alleyway, etc) are $10 loose, flat rate, almost everywhere.

One reason I bought a GBA was because I thought I could get lots of GameBoy games cheap. Boy was I wrong! Not that games for other handhelds come cheaply either.

you know whats odd where i live-
i dont see a great variety of GB games- most of them are the same ones over and over.. youd think with that large a game library youd never see the same game twice...
and i dont see hundreds at a time either.. i see like 10 here, 10 there... a lot of people must hold on to these

About the only games I can find cheap are GBA games...they seem to be dropping to the $10-15 range a lot faster than the older B/W and even GBC games ever did.

I just have to be careful which used GBA games to buy...since I tend to like to have rulebooks for the newer ones. Older games were more straightforward, and I never needed the books. But some things on these GBA games, I'd never have figured out on my own...

Which basically means I need to find a rulebook for Fire Pro Wrestling now...grrrrrr

Just for the record, GBC games are still about $15-20 loose

one thing's for sure: I regret not picking up that Metroid II IN BOX (dunno if it still had its manual) I saw a few months ago at a local EB.

I rarely even see Game Boy games in the thrifts or in yard sales. In three years or so of looking, I've come across one title. I was shocked to find it too.

How much was it? I got one complete recently for $20... it goes for $50+ on eBay so I know I got a good deal myself

It was about $20-25 CDN. I really should have gotten it.

I have found a total of 5 games in the past 5-6 years of looking at garage sales. Out of the 5 titles 3 were tetris.

What REALLY surprises me is the original B&W Tetris, I STILL DON'T HAVE ONE, and the damn things go for like $15-$20 on ebay, after what 10-15 YEARS?! I have the color version, but the music just wrecks it for me, the original music BLEW THE NEW ONE AWAY.

I see more GB, GBC, GBA games then you can imagine.

I can't find one for less then $10. One of our local stores is flat rate on GB games 9.99. Which is an outrage for some games, but very good for others (Mega Man 3 ).

GBC games are flat $14.99, and that is cheap.

On a related GB note, Toys'R'Us got a shipment of Capcom GBC games.
Toki Tori, Trouballs, Dragons Lair, and Metal Walker for $9.99.

I mention this cause Toki Tori is an awsome (and somewhat scarce) game.
And Dragons Lair is a exact copy of the original game (with slightly less pretty graphics, but still very impressive). You guys should definatly look into it.
I am in fact the guy that made the Raisins prototype worth thousands less by dumping it. "D'oh!!"

yeah its gotta be the backwards comp.

i have 65 game gear carts, most of them have been under $3.

i have 25 gameboy carts, for around $5 each and those were flukes.

i visited a gameshop today in CT and aske dthe guy if he sold any "old" stuff, nope nothing older that N64 he said. of course he had a case of old Gameboy games, didnt occur to him that some were what? 15 years old now?
