    Default Noisy Sega CDX lens

Does anyone have any tips for a noisy Sega CDX lens? The system makes a slight "grinding" noise, it doesn't really sound that terrible. Despite it the system works great, fast loads and the works.. I debate the need to even fix it but I'd like to try.

I realize it may very well be as simple as the gears needing oiled. Is there any way to do this without opening the system up? As you all know the Sega CDX is a royal pain to open and I may very well nix the idea if it's required.. :P

Opening is hard. Servicing is VERY challenging. I'm a professional, and I dread every one I open.

If it ain't broke, don't broke it. =)

Certainly I've heard the Sega CDX is hard to open and service. But my question was is there a way to do this without opening the system?

I'm also now wondering what it takes to get the cd tray's lid off.. Does the system need to be opened to get the lid off and put back on?

Hmm. Are you telekinetic? That would help...

    ;-)

I have no information that could help do what you are asking for. Sorry.

Okay I got the CD lid off without problem.

This gave me easy access to the 4 screws near the CD motor and lens. BUT, when I remove these screws I am only able to lift the motor up slightly and I can't uncover the plastic "cover" from around the lens. It's whats around the lens that I need to get at most likely.. I assumed these screws were what held that down, apparently not..

Any tips? I am going to search for some general compact disc player drive assembly and see if that helps at all.

I am wishing I were telekinetic now.

Servicing a CDX is not for the novice and even for a professional it's a taxing task.
