Default PSP Slim...got one tonight and have a question about the analog nub..

The urge to grab one of these (now with TV out) was irresistible, and all is good so far except one small annoyance. The analog nub seems to "click" when moving it around. It works, but it seems to click and make kind of cracking noises when used. I can push on it slightly and it will click. Are they all like this? Did I get a dud? Anyone else have one that exhibits this behavior?

yep I here "clicking" sounds when I rotate my analog stick, so it seems to be normal.

haven't noticed mine doing it but maybe that's just my NGPC's fault (now that little guy clicks-but its the best damn portable joystick ever!)

Nice piece of hardware but agian I find i'm growing bored with it, maybe a vacation would help? haha

I went back and exchanged my Piano black version for the Daxter version (very risky since my first unit had 0 dead pixels!) and this one's nub is smooth with zero clicking...thank god. And, still 0 dead pixels I guess the nub thing was a dud...

Yes my daxter bundle silver psp had the clicking nub also. It really pissed me off because of my OCD I opened the system and stupid Sony's assembly line put the nub on lop sided. All I had to do was remove it and put it back on and it was fine. I wouldn't suggest doing this unless you have OCD or have a general knowledge of using a screw driver.

thankfully I'm only using the slim for games that require the d-pad (castlevania...others I'm sticking to the phat)

Yeah, that clicking thing was aggravating the crap out of me. I think it was worst than when I had a dead pixel on my old PSP model. Just the feeling of it clicking and creaking when moving it....ugh...

    Yep, OCD here too

Now that all is fine in PSP slim world, man is it GREAT! The screen looks crisper than the first model (at least to me), the TV-out is awesome (watched UMD "Office Space" tv-out last night), and Castlevania just kicks ass. Looks like the PSP has won me over again!

I was about to say I also have the PSP Daxter model but never had a clicking analog. No dead pixels and no clicking analogs make me satisfyed with my purchase. The only gripe I have with it is when it scales the image down on the TV when playing games on it.

Hell yeah they do! This was the whole reason I held off on a PSP purchase (again). I had one on launch, got bored and sold it. As the games surfaced, I found myself wanting it again. Then I heard that TV-out was being implemented on the new version. I waited, and man was it worth the wait!

The only sucky thing is that I purchased the standard TV-out cable (yellow/red/white) because that was all they had. It outputs the movies just fine, but will not output the games...as apparently I need a component to do this. Oh well, not a big deal for now. I am absolutely planning on purchasing more UMD movies...since the prices seem to have gone down. I *will* be purchasing the component cable when I see it tho....

That's pretty awesome. Sucks you have to use component though. I didn't even think of UMD movies (as I don't own any).

Yeah, I'm a real stickler for "exclusive" movie formats. I went crazy on Laserdiscs back in the day. I really like the UMD format...nice and small, better protected (plastic casing) than a bare DVD, and they look just as good if not better than DVD's. I saw a slew of movies I want, and I really hope they continue to bring out movies in the format for years to come. Would be fantastic to have a massive UMD movie collection containing all of my personal favorites.

Got mine yesterday and no clicking. I bought the silver package with the Family Guy and Daxter because I figure those will be hard to find after Friday.

I am wondering why the volume on the Family Guy UMD is lower than it is on the games. I tried Taito Memories (the Japanese version) and Capcom Reloaded and I can hear them fine, but Family Guy is still too low on the highest setting. Maybe UMDs are meant to use headphones.

I can tell that I'm going to like this slim PSP better than the original one. They should have put a soft case in the package, though.
Currently catching up on PSN, WiiWare, Wii U E-Shop and Xbox Live Arcade exclusives I missed.

Somebody was telling me the PSP Slims use a really cheap plastic for the case of it. Is this true? He said it felt really cheap compared to his old PSP.

We had the same issue with the one PSP movie that we've bought. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is so hard to hear that even with the volume all the way up you can barely hear it. Headphones don't help either. That bad experience turned us off of UMD's completely.

Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

I held a White Slim a week or two back when I was in a GameStop. It didn't feel cheap, it just felt light. I think thats where the issue lies. Your so used to the heavier feel of the original model that the lite one just feels off in comparison. Kind of like that same feel people had when they shifted from the DS Phat to the DS Lite. Give it a little time and it'll feel just like normal or like it never changed or something... you know what I mean.
